i think it does a little bit if u dont have steady aim but if u do adsing actualy increases spread, ads speed on shotguns is as slow as as an ar or lmg so it would be benaficial not to ads

A few days ago tested all of the shotties, and the AA-12 does benefit from ADS (maybe ~15% less spread).
I forgot which shotty it was, but one of them def appeared to have a worse spread when ADS, but not by much (again maybe ~15%). ...I think it was the USAS-12, but I didn't commit the results to memory.
But other than the AA-12, and the other mystery shotty, ADS seemed to have no effect on the rest of the shotties' spread pattern.

Now we know that ADSing hardly (if at all) effects spread pattern.
Is there a reliable test to see if it effects damage or range on any of them? The RDS slows down ADS time on some that I use, which seems like a very odd attribute, so I can only imagine there is a reason for it.

Well, the sights help to place shots more accurately, so that's probably what the increased ADS time is for. Some people just like the fact that things slow down when you ADS and makes it easier to place accurate shots, which may help if you are trying to place them at range.
Myself playing Black Ops just ADSed all the time since I had Sleight of Hand Pro already and the spread of the Stakeout and HS10 were smaller ADS then they were with Steady Aim.

I'm currently in my shotgun prestige, and I feel that ADSing increases the likelihood of higher damage at range. It could just be because I'm more accurate hitting a distant target (by shotgun standards) with ADS rather than hipfiring.

It is just that. Because you are ADSing and you move slower, you're more accurate at placing shots and are therefor doing better than hipfiring.
Unlike Black Ops (for the Stakeout and HS10), ADSing doesn't have a huge difference on pellet spread.
