The only time I find the stinger op is when an enemy strafe run is coming. Its like Christmas when I see all those helis flying so close together. Instant pred for me.
Absolutely not: Stingers are the hard counter to killstreaks and are vital to the balancing of killstreaks. In addition to tempering killstreaks greatly, taking a Stinger also involves a very large sacrifice as it forfeits a secondary which could be used on personnel.

I just feel the choppers in this game are taken out far too easily in this game. What I'm saying is I almost always get more kills with my pred then the attack heli because it always gets shot down before it has the chance to get within range. In mw2 the choppers would specifically attack people with launchers. In mw3 it only attacks whoever is closest. The stinger is far more useful the any other secondary, especially now that the akimbos and javelin have been nerfed. And doesn't most useful=most overpowered?
On the other hand, I do see how much of mess this game would be with killstreaks in the air all the time. Its a dillema to me. Either you have your choppers and other killstreaks always shot down before they have a chance to kill and have the stinger overpowered, or you have the game where your constantly getting chewed up by killstreaks and are never able to call anything in because something else is in the air. Thats why I say give the compromise of having the stinger but giving it longer lock-ons or give killstreaks more flares. Fairest why to have it that I can think of.

The choppers are fine. They simply aren't consistent kills. Sometimes they will get shot down before they ever make it into the map, and sometimes they'll go berserk.
Also, nerfing the Stinger would be completely pointless. It would only cause people to realize it's unnecessary against anything except an AC-130, and encourage more people to use Blind Eye + Silenced ACR. I don't think anyone wants that.

In my experience they sure have been shot down before they get to the map alot more times then when they went beserk. And if they went berserk chances are you are playing with noobs who don't even know what a stinger is. The only good killstreaks in the assualt class is the pred missle and the reaper. I find myself going to the specialist package as soon as I get just it because the assualt package is made useless with all the EMPs and stingers around. FFA is the only game mode that choppers are useful in, where no one is using a stinger.

If it makes you feel any better, locked on missiles have a low probability of doing random loop de loops, just ignoring their target, or, most hilariously, coming back down on the player who launched them, resulting in the most absurd suicide known to man.

Stinger is only good for AC-130 or against Strafing Run. BE+ACR/silencer/extended mags for everything else. My biggest gripe against the Stinger is that it sticks so high on your back it gets you killed.
I have no good solution against Recon Drone - EMP grenade requires sacrificing too much.
