MW3 hidden gem: RSASS w/Kick+ACOG « Thread Started on Aug 24, 2012, 3:03am »
Maybe this combo is old news to experienced bros, but it is new to me. I have been pushing RSASS to gold, and spamming RSASS like no tomorrow. However, the recoil is pretty crazy when doing high RoF spamming, so I thought maybe Kick can help.
It helps greatly indeed. With Kick+ACOG, the combined power of
high RoF through spamming with manageable recoil made possible by Kick; high damage at 1HK head/neck + 2HK anywhere else, regardless how far the enemies are; ACOG offers good zoom level without tunnel vision;
makes RSASS a formidable semi-auto AR like weapon similar to MK14, but with more power and more spamming friendly.
Drawbacks: 1) slow ADS time (use QD and/or Stalker to overcome), 2) low ammo (use Scavenger to overcome), 3) slow movement speed
Loadout #2: Overkill with RSASS for overwatch First primary: PM-9 or PP90 (for moving to overwatch position) Second primary: RSASS w/ACOG+Kick (for lock down area at overwatch position) SoH + OK + Stalker Specialist ASS->QD->HL

Hidden gem: Definitely not a) This combo was obvious from day 1 (not hidden) b) Mk. 14 has less recoil and sway, more ammo, faster reload and faster movement speed

I must have missed the memo . In the past I have been using Silencer+ACOG, or Variable Scope + Silencer. Maybe when this was suggested I was still at the stage of too dependent on Silencer and Assassin and did not take it seriously.
MK14 is one of my most favorite weapons. In comparison, RSASS w/Kick+ACOG feels "easier to get kills". The recoil and sway does not present much problems when spamming it like crazy.
For bros who have not had a chance using it, I highly recommend giving it a try.
Also, with QD powered loadout #1 mentioned, at least for me it feels way easier to use than regular Quick-Scoping (e.g.: QD w/MSR, QD w/Barrett)

I went on a grind yesterday to get my RSASS gold too. Played with it for 7 hours straight from lv1 all the way to lv31 Once I'd done all the attachment challenges I found that this was the most versatile class so it was usable on every map I played:
- VZ is my favourite attachment for all snipers because you can just use the lowest zoom for all ranges. Plus I just can't deal with that annoying sway on the ACOG sight. - Scavenger is essential when you're reaching 900+ RPM like I do multiple times a game.

This is a very good setup. I love VZ too ,most of the time I am using the lowest zoom, occasionally switch to high zoom to take out enemy snipers.
However, with the tunnel vision I struggle with aggressive use. ACOG + Stalker feels much more mobile. I'll continue trying with Kick+VZ to see if I can get used to it.

You could always just forget kick, put on speed and switch out the ACOG for a thermal. No more gunkick + you are as fast as an assault rifle user.
Typically I run it: RSASS-speed-thermal Five-Seven-ex mags Semtex-EMP grenade (because they take out AH6 with one grenade) Scavenger Assassin Either Stalker or Steady Aim Specialist-QD-SOH-BE

I think that RSASS is the better gun than mk-14 suppressed. It's the only way to go imo. You could put 2 attachments to get your acog, but I think Suppressor + kick is nice.

I like the RSASS with ACOG and kick. When I run it I play it like an LMG. When I run the dragnov I play it like I am rushing (I always use speed on the dragnov now).
I find blind eye to be amazing on it...especially for SnD. All other snipers I run recon on....this thing though....it annihilates killstreaks.

That's exactly my feeling as well: RSASS w/ACOG+Kick feels similar to an LMG.
vs. LSW w/Silencer+Kick: RSASS w/ACOG+Kick has better visual reach.
vs. LSW w/Silencer+Thermal: RSASS w/ACOG+Kick does not suffer tunnel vision.
RSASS w/Silencer+Kick is a great option as well. However, personally I would prefer LSW w/Silencer+Thermal instead (similar ADS, same zoom, both have tunnel vision).

ACOG/Suppressor is the only way it has a niche over the MK14 in my experience. But thats still crap compared to the L86.
Come think of it, the niche I am considering RSASS for is on maps where I prefer to have an ACOG sight (vs. Iron / RDS / Holo: better zoom level, vs. Sniper Scope / thermal Scope / Hybrid high: better peripheral vision), like Bakaara, Fallen, Mission, Village, Liberation and Foundation, and to lesser extent Resistance, Interchange, Seatown, Sanctuary, Black Box, Offshore. (In other words: games when the enemy teams are having more than one sniping campers trying to get easy kills through sight superiority).
ACOG is not a popular attachment at all in MW3. For automatic weapons the recoil is all over the place mainly due to the higher zoom. I experimented with it on MK14, but RDS, RF and even Silencer feel more useful.
IMHO, RSASS is the best weapon to go with ACOG (Dragunov works well with ACOG, but it is almost completely outclassed by RSASS, only better on movement speed).

Ext. Mag, Flinch.
Blind Eye (Dayum that thing destroy aircraft easily) Quickdraw (can switch to assassin in SnD for example, but I don't recommend it for more aggressive playstyles) Marksman (for long range encounters)
For long ranges, just crouch. No 545rpm fire cap, just fly the trigger away.
If you like being precise, cross maps headshots on people tactical loitering/prone/planting/defusing help greatly. It isn't hard to get far away enemies anyway, a huge ass aim assist and zoom will help you a lot, with the sway being easily controllable.
On a side note, completely predictable recoil. If you know you gonna miss the first shot (due to several reasons) just aim down a left from the target, the recoil will lead you to it.

Great tip. Mastering this would relieve the dependency on Kick.

Since I didn't mention this in my 'class suggestion' post I'll say it here; in my opinion the MK14 is superior to the RSASS in most circumstances. You have higher mobility, you're not forced to choose between a swaying-ACOG or a tunnel-vision scope and you have much lower recoil. That stuff for a cost of 3HK's at range as opposed to 2HK's and a lower 1HK HS range seems worth it to me. It's much more adaptable too.
Don't get me wrong, RSASS still has it's place. But I personally think the MK14 is more viable.
