So I guess you get 1 extra unlock token after every prestige. And you can unlock everything only at 15th prestige. But wait there are only 10 prestiges.

I'm calling bullshit... So while all the reviews say that the new prestige system encourages players to prestige more often because your challenges aren't reset, it actually punishes you - even after going through 10 freaking prestiges, you don't get to unlock everything? Way to go, Treyarch. Now I'm kind of mad .

-There's a total of 99 items in Create-A-Class, but a max level of 55. That means you can only get 55 unlock tokens for 55 of the items and can't access the rest without prestiging. All of these unlock tokens are "temporary" unlocks unless you decide NOT to prestige, in which case they're "permanent" and you're stuck with whatever items you choose to unlock in Create-A-Class.
-When you prestige, you lose all of your temporary unlock tokens but get 1 permanent unlock token which will unlock whatever item you choose to keep for all future prestiges a la MW3. You'll have to get the 55 unlock tokens again via leveling up. This means that by Prestige 1 lvl 55, you'll have access to 56 items, 55 temporary and 1 permanent. Again, the temporary unlocks are only if you are considering prestiging. Choose not to prestige further, and you'll be stuck with those 56 items you chose to unlock.
-Getting to 10th prestige lvl 55 will give you the title "Prestige Master" and all 99 items will be unlocked. Prior to that, you would have received 10 permanent unlock tokens to spend, letting you access 10 permanent unlocks and 54 temporary unlocks at 10th Prestige lvl 54 for 64 total unlocks. Obviously since there's no more levels beyond 10th Prestige lvl 55, if they didn't give you permanent access to all 99 items at this point you would only be able to have 65 of the 99 Create-A-Class items.

What an incredibly crappy system. I've never had any desire to get to tenth prestige, I just want to be able to use the f-ing gear in the game I payed for.

I think when you prestige, you can do 1 of these 3 things:
Unlock a create a class slot Redeem Tokens Take an item with you
So I guess if you Redeem Tokens, you get your 55 tokens from the previous prestige back instantly, which would make it possibe to have more than 99 prestige tokens at prestige 1 level 55. IMPORTANT: This is just a guess, so don't take it for granted! I have not tried it myself!

So I have to choose unlock something forever or unlock another custom class? Wow this sucks.

-You get to permanently unlock a CaC item AND either get an extra custom class, redeem tokens, or start back at lvl 1 non prestige (Reset Stats is misleading, it really starts you over as if you're a new player).
-The Redeem Tokens is only for the current prestige you're on, and what it does is re-lock all the CaC items you've unlocked for the prestige you're on and refund the tokens from spending on those unlocks. As mentioned, you lose all the tokens you get for the "temporary" unlocks when you prestige. You do not get those tokens back through the Redeem Tokens option.

To some consolation, one can spend the first ten prestiges for plenty of items, then spend the other five for their extra classes with relative impunity. Grinding should be far less painful by then.

Great explanation, insamity. You are my bro. I still don't like the system, but at least it takes away the decision of whether I should stop after 1 prestige or go all the way to 10 . Also, getting an extra class slot for each of the first 5 prestiges is kinda cool (as opposed to one earned every other prestige like in previous titles). Edit: Actually, on second thought, it isn't too bad. I don't care for killstreak rewards too much, so I'll probably just not unlock many of those.

I wish i'd known this before I started the game, I would've been more selective with my unlocks since I don't like to prestige. I thought your tokens rolled over so I decided to prestige once to have all the unlocks, but to my surprise you started all over, lol.
On the bright side, there were 2 benefits to me prestiging once: 1. I got to play with guns/perks, etc. so I pretty much know what my main setups are. 2. After you prestige you unlock prestige challenges for 5000XP each.
So for those that don't like the grind of prestiging, you can do like me:
1. I only have a handful of Primaries and Secondaries I use, so rather than use guns that I don't like to gain XP, I max them out and then Prestige them. I do this until I reach level 55. 2. Systematically do the Prestige challenges. They have categories like Wildcards and Perks, so you can set up a single class with say Perk 1 & 2 Greed, 4 Perks from those tiers, a Perk 3 and a gun with 2 attachments that meet a challenge. So essentially I'm knocking out 9 challenges at once.

With everyone doing so poorly to start... one would think the reset stats option would be a good one.

I'm afraid I'll have to ask another question, just to avoid investing too much effort in vain right now. Did I understand correctly that none of your challenges are reset when you prestige? I don't want to go all out trying to complete some of the higher-end challenges, only to find out that they get wiped upon prestigeing.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but unlocking create-a-class slots seems somewhat stupid this time around. At just under level 20, I'm struggling to make 5 distinct classes with the handful of things I've unlocked, and none of them are what I want them to be. Why have 10 classes if most of them are going to be consigned to using the early crap?
I was somewhat excited about the potential of the Pick 10 system, but I realize that it's going to take a few weeks of grinding to get it where I want it. Oh, well. It's not like I won't be playing it.

I like to have at least one class of each weapon type at a time and in addition to that, classes which are suited for specific phases of a game. For exampe in Domination a class for rushing B in the beginning, one for heavy objective play with Flack Jacket and Tac Mask and one if we get dominated by enemy killstreaks. Other gametypes will require additional specific classes. With that system, I can barely manage with all 10 slots unlocked xD

Wait, I'm really confused.
I understand that...
1. Prestige token on a weapon = you unlock that weapon permanentely, and is available at level 4.
2. All challenges and progress on a weapon, continue where you left off, when you prestige them.
What i don't get is the whole temporary tokens thing. Say I unlock a bunch of weapons from levels 1-55, and then I prestige. I know my progress and challenges with weapons are kept, and that I can't use them until I reach the required level. But do I have to spend tokens on all the weapons/items I spent tokens on the previous prestige, on the current prestige--just to use them again?

Of course, you don't have to spend tokens on the exact same stuff you unlocked the previous prestige - you can choose to spend your tokens on different things and mix up the way you go about your next prestige.
