yeah only times I use the knife are when I'm all out of ammo, or when someone got the drop on me at point blank. If I stop and shoot back I'm dead. If I charge him and knife, got a small chance of living. Feel like a jerk when it pays off because I basically didn't deserve the kill, but whatever: I am the winner.
I should mention that the most over powered weapon in the game is the Drill Tool. It pwns.
On that note, Engineer Build of the Day is:
-PP2K/UZI, something for close range. -REX, medium range and back up. -Carl Gustav, long range bazooka sniping. -Extra Ammo perk, you run dry quick for the primary. -Explosive Damage Perk, A MUST!
This is my favorite anti-infantry load out and I must say, I'm good with it. I don't need extra Gustav ammo because I'm never using more than one shot a guy, plus I only attack vehicles with my drill. But when the time comes, I'll switch out Carl with Ricky, hold sideways and go gangsta one shot kill on them tanks yo.

That's actually a pretty good loadout man! I think I might give that one a try since I can't seem to find an engy loadout that really "does it for me" like my SAW w/ reddot medic or AEK assault, etc.

The SAW is more overpowered than Chuck Norris that downed 6 cases of Red Bull and going on a rampage in the ninth dimension with KingKong carrying a Plasma Rifle and riding a mutant-zombie-cyborg-dinosaur.

Here's the worst build in the world.
Class-Medic
Primary-SPAS12 (noob Medics have this) Secondary-Tracer (you're screwed on ammo now) Perk1-Explosive Ammo Up (you need to really make sure you don't waste that second grenade) Perk2-Explosive Damage Up (again, don't waste those grenades) VehiclePerk-Alternate Weapon (not as useful as it seems)
-
Basically this makes you useless against vehicles, useless in almost all ranges, have almost no ammo, etc. etc..

give me a shotgun and a medipak and I can do just fine.
If I run out of ammo I will hunt down an enemy Assault and fill my buckshot back up
I'm one of those players that doesn't think any build is "bad". There are builds which aren't exactly "optimal" but I could make the above work without a problem.
In fact, that wouldn't be a half bad Attacker medic build (well with the exception of the tracer dart). I'm a big fan of storming objectives with a shotty. Extra 'nades always is a nice thing to have when storming (one inside the building, one behind it). Extra explosives would give my entry that little extra punch it might need.
The tracer dart, while useless on most maps as Attacker, could server you well on CQ, on Rush Defense, or on Attacker when the Defensive team does have a tank or somesuch.
A good player can always find a way to persevere. Lack of ammo is not an obstacle that is difficult to overcome.

That is unless you playing with a bunch of Recon noobs who snipe three bases away.

and, let's face it, you WILL.
unless you bring friends. i don't even play this game anymore unless i'm with someone on teamspeak. that's when the tracer dart shines too. always have it.
well sure by circumstance doesn't make a loadout bad by itself
Lack of skill makes a loadout bad.
On that note, here's a new build for you ambush junkies out there on Vietnam.
Primary-Flamethrower or Shotgun Secondary-Anything (you only have 2 to choose) Perk1-Lightweight Perk2-Body Armour (yes, I spell it like that)
This makes you a close range nightmare and really hard to kill in dense brush. But like I said, lack of skill makes a loadout bad and this one I'm not the best with either. This is the kit I use most of the time on Vietnam because I'm not comfortable with the lack of variety in the weapons, so I tend to go with the Flamer.
Man, I still haven't got a platinum star for any gun, but I think I got my heavy vehicle platinum before I'd even got a gold star for anything else.
And yeah, the SCAR's irons are great and it's a great gun. Playing engineer without double explosives is crazy, I spend almost as much time with the rpg as I do with the smg. Equal primaries! Also 7 hours with the repair tool, hoo boy. I use a sight without a second thought as assault or medic (unless AEK - amazing irons - or mg36 - free red dot) but I don't think I've ever played an engineer with one. Doing it all wrong.
I'm sure I sound like a broken record by now but I use LW pack even on Engineer. If I'm not running with AT mines, I'm using the AT4 laucher. That thing is strong enough to take out a tank if you hit it in the backside with only 2 shots.
The standard 4 rockets = 2 tank kills for me.
If I am out of rockets I'll find an ammo kit (not terribly hard to do).
LW pack helps me get from cover to cover and flank tanks better. It's a small increase but it has been the cause of my living through a tank volley more times than I can count.
Strategy: 1:Get into UAV thingy. 2:Fly around very high. 3:Dodge fire and only attack Vehicles or Turrets. 4:Listen on the mike and chat on how people are loving you for having the entire enemy team show up on radar.

I always do this whenever I get to be on the UAV. Your team will love you for it, but you wont rank up many points. Then again, it is a team based game...

And since I love posting builds for this game:
Build: No Charge Exploder
Kit: Assault (for infinite ammo) Primary: M14 (pretty good by itself) Secondary: Rex or Grach (any handgun will do fine but these ones will let you live the best) Gadgets:Ammo Box&C4 Perk1:Explosive Ammo Up Perk2:Explosive Damage Up
Strategy: This kit is mainly for Rush(attacking) modes and works wonders in it.
1:Get to a point near the M-COM that you can lay charges and not kill yourself when you trigger them. 2-Lay Ammo Box. 3-Set charges and count to six (you can only lay a maximum of six) 4-Blow up stuff. 5-Repeat 2 or just go to 3 if you don't nee another lunch box. Got to 6 if you killed M-Com. 6-Go back to 1.
