In all my years in playing ANY video game I have MEVER gotten so many close range hit markers with a PUMP ACTION SHOTGUN EVER. This is horrible! And why did they decide to make the damage proficiency last when they know damm well you cant get more than 10 kills in a match with a gun that, by design, you will lose with 100% of the time if you aren't behind cover. EVERYthing beats shotguns close range. Ive gotten as much as 3 hit markers chasing somebody that was no more than 10 feet in front of me. 4 hit markers to kill with somebody that was also behind cover. I maybe have gotten OSK's with the pump shotties like twice. You can almost always bank on needing two shots to kill with a shotgun. Thats cool n all but the pump action is slow as balls. If you wanna make the guns as weak as they are then at least make the pump action fast like the W1200 a la COD4. But seriously I'm having to do 2-3 seconds of shooting when in this game thats not gonna cut it all. I get first hit no problem but in the time I have to clear the chamber I coulda died 3 times over. Really, really, stupid. I pray that the Damage proficiency fixes all this when I get to it. That alone might stop me from prestiging.

I disagree, I have been using the SPAS with grip and I get one hit kills like crazy. Actually I was really impressed with how ridiculous the range is on that thing. I can't wait to get the range proficiency and make it even better. You just need to make sure the shot is well aimed.

my experience with em has been so bad that I kinda dont believe you. only times i get osks with it are when the guy is right in front of my face in knife range. I gotta do some tests to see the diff between ads and hipfire spread but as of right now im tired of the PAS's. Ive literally walked up right behind a guy lined up a full body shot n still had to shoot him twice

I've had plenty of point blank hit markers. The Spas is total trash atm, I don't even want to level it to 28 since I'll just prestige and lose all that hard work. The Striker, on the other hand, is quite beast. Plenty of rounds in the drum and the follow up shots come quick.

I have had zero luck with the SPAS-12 . . . it now seems to be a 4HK (on average). And the KSG is not appreciably better.

I never thought I'd feel nostalgiac for the sheer destructive power of the (single) HS-10.

I looted a AA-12 from someone, and noticed it took far more shots to drop people. But I was killing people with it, the brief time I had it. I will test it more.

Obviously, I don't have this game, but I have to ask:

Are they worse than the Trench Gun from WAW?

If they are, I will consider buying MW3.Nothing makes me feel better than awful, underpowered shotguns.

I haven't used the shotguns at all yet, but have killed plenty of people that have. Several times. It might have something to do with nobody having steady aim or damage proficiency yet, but more than once I'll get hit in the back with a shotgun and just turn and spray the guy down with an smg before he can refire.

Steady Aim helps some, but certainly not enough. Im with volgon on this one. Im just gonna skip out on PAS's until Im done prestiging. Then Ill come back to em. Ill give the Striker a go and see how I fare... but I'm really upset that the shotguns got such a nerf. Admittedly if MW2 shotguns were on these CQC levels theyd rape face no problem. But I feel like theres a happy medium :-/

Shotguns are more about connection than anything.


While COD is a hit-scan game. It does use prediction on enemy location.
Because of this shotguns are either famously OP for those with good connections or "Trash crappy hiptoismal hitmarker machines" because even tho you HAD your entire spread on the target visually, most of the predicted target location was a head of the target so 3/4 of your pellets actually missed the target.

i quit using steady aim off my own host because of that. costs you some effective range, but makes up for it huge up close.


ive had it both ways. its the same in BO (where you dont have stopping power/jg to crutch on like previous titles)

Well my deal with that is how can hitscan detection for shotguns get WORSE from MW2 to MW3? Shotguns had no problem OSK'ing and getting strong hit markers in MW2 so why are things different now? Aren't they supposed to be using a revamped and better MW2 engine? (I got lost n confused in the FPS engine debate in another post that u put up, toys...) I just think IW needs to take a look at em and reconfigure em. Damage simply needs to go up. Steady Aim still doesn't grant OSK's so its not like all the bullets in the spread aren't hitting :-\

This is why pump action shotguns suck in MW3. The solution?

1887 with Damage: 42-28 x8 (336-224)

its not worse. the damage&range is simply less than it use to be.
that's why the rangers and M1014+EM were kings of shotguns in MW2. follow ups.

take away the range of mw2 1887/spas and all the rest of BO&mw3 are about the same.



its just SSDD console lag. overhead from going through the services instead of direct P2P connections

So . . . objectively, these guns are ~= the WaW Trench Gun sans Stopping Power (i.e., a 4-pellet kill up-close)?

That's pretty whack, so they nerfed the damage hard and put the perk to bring it back up at the end of the weapon levels?

25, actually. The Damage proficiency brings it up to a whopping 35-7.

SPAS-12 with Damage: 35-7 x8 (280-56)

MW2 SPAS-12 was 40-20 x8 (320-160) . So the Damage proficiency doesn't come close to bringing it back up.

must have been lag/bad host connection.

had several games where i would unload on people get the hit-markers and at times i would unload and stop expecting a kill just for the enemy to turn or out hip-fire me with an ar/lmg.

even though i had '4-bars' i'm beginning to think that the connection bar status is as reliable as blops connection bars.

The shotguns are straight terrible in this game. LMGs arent that fantastic either. Its more of an assault rifle/smg game, which i dont really mind. I still wish we could get the kind of weapon balance we had in cod 4

I've enjoyed playing with the LMGs - they generally have less recoil than in MW2, except for the PKP. I wish they wouldn't have added damage falloff, but that hasn't kept me from doing well with them.

Disagree on the LMGs strongly, I've had tons of success crouch ADSing with Stalker. Then again, I play mostly ground war where the 100 rounds come in handy.

OK - Shotties - ha! I presteged 6 times MW2 and I do not know how many kills I have with my SPAS and my M1014 ext. magazines for room clearance. Tons....

Playing MW3 on again PC up to level 50 - Shotties are big disappointment. Not only they are primaries with slow raise time and you have nothing long range - they do not really kill - even using steady aim. Shooting a guy that was running away - after 2 shots he turned around and killed me- that is not a bad connection...

... Yes. you can kill someone - but hey if it takes 3 shots at a range that I would assume is "close" that is |´ |_| < Ked up.

I did test SPAS - USAS12 and striker whereas the striker was somewhat ok. but still useless/outperformed by any pistol with no ammo .... ;-((((( so far mw3 seems evened out - but shotties are useless.

All aiming down sight does is eliminate the benefits of Steady Aim. So, no. I had to train myself to STOP ADSing because it was getting me killed.

Range is okay on the SPAS . . . it is a pretty modest improvement, however. Range might be better on the more spammable guns.

Damage makes the SPAS almost useable. For comparison purposes, it becomes roughly as good as the Blops Stakeout. (High praise indeed, I know.)
