 Self-imposed Challenges in BF3
« Thread Started on Jun 25, 2012, 12:01pm »

Denizens,

What have you been doing to prevent yourselves from using only your favorite guns in every class? I'll start: I have been getting every unlock with every weapon that I can, so that at any point in the future, I will be able to use any combinations on any weapon (just in case there becomes a powerful combination) and also to mix things up and really get a handle on all weapons offered.

After that, I will try to get mastery tags on every weapon (500 kills).

What are you guys doing? I know Didjeridu was doing 100 kills on each weapon.

currently doing the 500 kills with every primary thing.

i was done with assault (then they added 2 more guns..pff) and just now finished all the "old" guns (exept the new 2) of the support.
gloriously rode the pig into the sunset as a finish worthy of that class: with a sixtupple-kill (blind hipfire spray without letting go of the trigger, naturally. it IS the pig, after all.)

however, i'm not doing too well with engineer weapons. just not my playstyle i guess, struggling with the A91. should have done it right after release.

and i dread recon weapons. i refuse to be another useles sniper, so i'll most likely be all like ironsights and go 1918 on their asses with boltactions. let's see how that goes.

In terms of challenges, I personally use shotguns with buck for that, as they are simply that terrible, and in terms of mixing up my weapon choices, I simply rely on my ability to get bored after using one weapon for more than 2 games in a row

Oh sure, now I can't say anything. :-X

But yeah, 100 kills for anything that has a dogtag, except the IGLA/Stinger. Those things are so bad, I don't think I'll ever get there. Also, pistols are racist, because there are separate tags for silenced M9/Grach but not flashlight. 500 kills is for crazy people. It'd be a breeze for most weapons, but there are some I could barely bring myself to getting 100 with; most notable being bolt snipers and the T88. I just don't enjoy every single weapon that much to use each to that extent. On that note I really don't care for the SCAR-L at all. If it wasn't for the M26, I'd be raging.

I am a gun hipster too. If a gun is too powerful and/or popular, I don't use it. So needless to say, I've buried the M16. Only other thing would be that I never use the same weapon for more than one round (unless I'm grinding one specifically that I hate, just to get it out of the way), and I often change weapons depending on how the match is going. The only real weapon I could use all day is G3 + M26. They're both so good, and so perfect for each other. Plus it's the only power AR option *coughAK74isadisgracecough*. I try to have at least 3 different weapons for each class that I use, each for different purposes: close/silenced, jack-of-all-trades, and ranged/defense. And then there's the 4th weapon, a shotgun. Every class has to have a shotgun. 8-)

I was doing stuff like this, especially ditching stuff at 500. But I sort of tailed off. I guess right now more than half of games I play recon 870 buck/tac and .44 magnum. Which is semi awful on some maps (kharg) but I just find it too fun to use other stuff without getting bored. I really don't find buckshot that bad since the last patch, and on the cq maps you don't lose a lot of 50/50s, especially as even other shotgun users are probably using the spas or something else.
I guess I don't play that much, I still have about half the premium and CQ assignments to do, and when in not using 870 in doing one of them atm. I will probably complete the l96 one in 2014.

Yeah, I haven't touched the "Get the Premium DOGTAGS!" assignments, though I have unlocked all of the new shiny weapons with CQ. I have unlocked everything in Engineer (love carbines in this game for some reason), I am working on the new support and assault weapons, and I have some old and some new weapons to unlock everything for on recon. After that, on to 500 kills.

Has anyone seen improvement out of using different weapons? I feel like when I start using another weapon, my control is pretty stupid, but switching so often helps me to get used to recoil patterns much faster than I sued to, and further, it helps me control the "easier" guns even better. So I guess I am getting something out of it!

Dreading the JNG, the new beltfed LMG, and the rest of the bolt actions I still have to complete. :(

Switching weapons always keeps things fresh. And I often feel when using something else, that it's more fun than I last remembered. Then after using it for a round, I go back to my usuals. For example the last time I used the AK-74, it was pretty good. The G36c is usually decent too, and the SAW is always a treat. I love the AN-94 and haven't used it in a good while, so it's something to save for a rainy day.

I got a good chunk of my LSAT kills on Damavand, mowing people down in one of the long hallways at the end. That's about all it can manage though, and I was wishing it was any other LMG the whole time. I tell you what though, it sure is good for kill assists and suppression assists. ::) For all my sniper rifles, I go into a 1000 ticket Bazaar server. It's cheezy and cheap, but not as bad as Metro or TDM. If the other team is pretty stupid, you can get a lot of kills tactical loitering B or the road leading from C to D. And if you ever get bored of that, iron/red/holo works wonders, as long as you aren't too aggressive. I used the M417 like a shotgun.

Isn't it the only way to use the M417? Ha. I might just use irons and a red dot sight in close quarters situations (not CQ maps) as much as possible to get all unlocks for that weapon. It should have damage on par with the SKS if they want to balance it, it's horribly imba as it stands.

Funny enough, I have racked up a decent number of kills with some of the crappier weapons, like the JNG. Never used it outside of Gun Master, but I have a decent amount of kills with it. Oh, and I don't think I have scoped in with it on Gun Master more than 5 or 6 times. Hipfire and pray for a close range chest shot!
