This really annoys me. I love shotguns because they are a zombie movie classic, and the up close and personal playstyle is exciting.
If this thread gathers any interest I'll pull up the weapon files and quote them for you. Otherwise you can research yourself and see it is true.
World at War shotguns when pack a punched had multipliers that made them decent options with one shot kills nearly comparable to the raygun (the pap trench gun, aptly named the Gut Shot, had a heavy multiplier for the lower torso for instance ).
The multipliers weren't included in the new shotguns. Id have to test and see if the dlc for the old maps has the same multipliers when using the WAW shotguns off the wall.
I honestly think this is something the developers overlooked as the stats for shotguns are identical between the two games, except the Black Ops shotguns are missing the multiplier.

Awwww, thats BS, the shotguns were already suffering in zombies and now they're worse? geez the only wall gun worth trying anymore is the M16.

Yeah I can't see any other explanation except they overlooked them. Why else would the black ops shotguns, all of them, have the same exact base damage as the WAW shotguns? There's no trade off.
This really sucks for us shotgun users.
Still want to test black ops der riese for the gut shots performance.

Am I the only one that hates the ray guns / perk machines / all the other silly junk?
The world war two zombie apocalypse theme seems pretty damned awesome, but Treyarch's vision is less than serious. Don't get me wrong, it's fun, but the thematic element is pretty much nill, none of it is scary or even creepy - it's just silly from the get-go and it gets sillier as they add things like the Thundergun and PHD Flopper.

the first map on waw was awesome, yeah, but they're just giving it a lot more depth. i was actually scared to play the first waw level alone for a while. i was also a fan of the player characters not speaking (i know you can turn the voices off (that's a weird sentence..)) and no 'demonic announcer' and crap like that, but go back and play the original waw map and you'll get bored really quick; all it takes it round 2 to potentially get a ray gun, from there there's nothing else to upgrade. the power switches, powerups, and paping really give you more of a reason to play.

I actually enjoy the "silly" things from zombies. It keeps it unique and interesting. And it helps further gameplay in a scenario that is neverending and gets progressively harder. You'd be snuffed out pretty quickly without the silly additions (and it'd be difficult to replicate these reasonably in a more "serious" fashion).
Furthermore a lot of the elements of nazi zombies are born from conspiracy theories on nazi technology - giving it a relevant tie to actual history as these concepts are as old as WWII.
That being said, I can't help but notice that has NOTHING to do with the shotguns being nerfed in zombies ;D

I thought Nacht Der Untoten was actually really scary. Not only was there no juggernog, but there wasn't a series of cheesy one-liners from the characters.
In fact, there weren't any 'characters' at all - just some random-faced dudes. Which, after having to listen to Takeo and Castro's BS, is quite the relief.
But back on topic, if it is the case that the shotguns don't have the multiplier, it's pretty disappointing, since my favourite weapons are shotguns [in particular the Stakeout].

I like the Stakeout as well, and I will upgrade it to Raid at times, but I have to hang it up after Round 19 because it just doesn't one shot anymore.
Shotguns were already balanced by their range and lack of points. Why was removing the multiplier necessary?
I have a friend who argues this must have been intentional, but I just don't see how this is balanced. Every weapon type is somewhat viable except for shotguns...

[quote author=toolshed33 board=general thread=2761 post=43364 time=1299862657and no 'demonic announcer' and crap like that[/quote] The announcer could certainly have a better voice. (An actual black metal or death metal vocalist doing those lines would have worked much better.) I do miss the powerups' time being shown when you pick them up instead of just a symbol that flashes near the end.
I don't know about completely nerfed, aside from the loss of that multiplier. Upgraded SPAS and HS10 have insta-reload even without SoH.
Then again, upgraded 74fu2 + ray gun/thunder gun trounces shotguns anyways.
