I measured in MW3 almost every weapon and sight for zoom level while ADS. Highlights: * Holo now has higher zoom than RDS (1.5 vs 1.35). This now balances its greater obstruction. * AR's have highest ironsight zoom (1.35 vs 1.2), same as a RDS. * ACOG much higher magnification than BLOPS (2.4 vs. 1.65) * AS50 with standard sight is 1/2 magnification of other snipers (2.4 vs 4.8) 1.0x = Non-ADS, Akimbo, ADS Pistols, M320GL (Everything below this is ADS) 1.2x = SMG, LMG, MP, and Shotgun Ironsights, Hybrid-Low 1.35x = AR Ironsights, RDS on any, HAMR-Low 1.5x = Holographic on any 1.7x = XM25 2.4x = ACOG, Thermal, HAMR-High, Hybrid-High, AS50 Standard Scope 2.8x = Javelin, Stinger 2.8x/4.8x/9.2x = Variable Zoom Sniper Scope (AS50 is same as the others equipped with VZ, XBoxAhoy says 9.0x for highest) 4.8x = Standard Sniper (other than AS50) You'll find my calculations here: docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0Av5t-DE1i_xfdGstS01XUnVIZ2JwSFR6NFpXcC1EeHc&output=htmlNOTES: I used two vertical baselines on the Outpost map, one large optimized for the low zoom stuff and one smaller optimized for the high zoom. Measuring by wedged my guy into a corner so the position was always the same. Measured with precision millimeter ruler on 42" flatscreen trying to minimize parallax as the glass is above the screen. If non-ADS an object is length 80mm and then under ADS it is 120mm then the magnification is 1.5x. Also always tried to measure in the middle of the screen to minimize distortion. Updated 12/25/2011 from XBoxAhoy info

Again usefull information, thanks SO a holographic might be better then a RDS on a T95 Might be, especially if you are using Marksman on a longer ranged AR with 3-4 shot long kills like M16, M14 or ACR. For me I still use RDS even though the Holo now has an advantage in magnification and looks cooler. I'm usually running stalker with ARs and staying ADS as much as possible; in this case Holo restricts my FOV a bit too much and is also more obstructive directly in front ... YMMV.

the yellow/orange tint on the holos will help you out; the greater contrast makes it much easier to make out objects and people, and it will in fact reduce glare/shine. in general, ive found it helps while looking at both darker and lighter areas. great info man, thanks

Do you know if the AS50 has lower sway over the other sniper rifles?

The only weapon that I'll waste an attachment for a sight is the G36C, the rest have mostly tolerable sights. ...I've never wasted an attachment on any of the sights (in any CoD), because once you get used to how a weapon fires, it's just muscle memory from then on!

Nice. You've been working wonders bro, good stuff. the yellow/orange tint on the holos will help you out; the greater contrast makes it much easier to make out objects and people, and it will in fact reduce glare/shine. in general, ive found it helps while looking at both darker and lighter areas. great info man, thanks Really? I guess I'll have to look into that. I hardly use the Holographic except for when I'm challenge grinding. Do you have a recommendation for custom reticle? The stock seems obtrusive to farther-away targets. It feels like a big red blob to me, but that may be memories from MW2.

I use Delta for the Holo and ACOG as the default reticules are far too obstructive. The default RDS reticule is fine though.
If you haven't unlocked Delta yet, honestly, any of the other reticules are far better than the default ACOG reticule (ex. on snipers where ACOGs are unlocked very early).

U-dot isn't bad, but I really like the Omega sight. Otherwise I just stick to the default.

Thanks guys.

Do you know if the AS50 has lower sway over the other sniper rifles? I have been collecting sway info on all weapons but haven't posted it. The Drag, RSASS and AS50 are showing reduced sway with the AS50 having very low visible sway b/c of 1/2 magnification of its normal scope (2.4x vs. 4.8x)

Nice info. This has influenced my decisions!
Lower magnification of the red dot also means a wider view of your surroundings. Good for my stalker class.

While I was researching about "Aim Assist", I learnt that in MW2 Holo sight has more significant effect than RDS (feels more sticky). My guess is that MW3 is the same.
More info on "Aim Assist":
I would also like to thank the author for the hard work to provide this valuable information. Does anybody have something similar for ADS time of different sights / scopes? When using a HAMR or variable scope, is ADS time the same across different zoom options, or the bigger magnification the slower?

More info on "Aim Assist": Sorry, but Woody is being careless in his measurements. The second set of measurements with the holo was done at a shorter distance than the first. All he's showing is that aim assist is stronger the closer you are to the target. It's kinda funny too because he's done this wrong before in his so called zoom level "measurements".

XboxAhoy just released a video on optics. Stuart has awesome vids and I am really looking forward to the rest of his Time to Kill series. In the latest optics video I wish he was more specific on the ADS times for various sights like HAMR, Hybrid, ACOG, and Thermal and whether they vary by weapon type. But you saw the scope zoom levels here first ... ha ha.

Anyone have the thread of the speed of sway for the sniper rifles?
Yeah, AS50 has lowest sway according to Fred.. but does it still hold that advantage over other sniper rifles with variable zoom, infared, and acog?
Where's that thread that had the sway speed of all the guns?
