So far, these 2 score streaks are run by almost every player. They are common because high-tier score streaks are much, much harder to obtain in this game in comparison to past games. A 7 killstreak is a sensible, reachable goal for the average player, so it makes sense that so many players choose these score streaks. Personally, I rarely can put together score streaks of 1000 or higher, so my typical chain is Hunter Killer - Care Package - Hellstorm/Lightning Strike.
However, people have been complaining about mid-level score streaks possibly being too powerful. I'm assuming they are talking about these 2, because 700-800 is mid-level and these are more common than the Death Machine and War Machine, and 600 points for a counter UAV is absurd.
From the 22 hours I've put into MP, the average for the Lightning Strike is 2 kills. It's rare that it gets 0, which could explain why it's so popular (consistent ROI is always attractive) and it's not all that uncommon to get a 3 piece or 4 piece if you are playing the right game mode.
The Hellstorm Missile also averages about 2 kills per use, but it's easier to evade if you pay any attention at all. It's easier to evade than then the Predator Missile from the MW games because of how slow it travels. However, when you don't get to cover, you are dealing with about 10 heat-seeking missiles, and your chance of survival isn't too good. Again, it's not all that uncommon to get a quad with one of these, especially if your team is running a counter UAV.
I'm sure one other reason for the high usage of the Lightning Strike is the fact that it is unlocked from the start as one of the default score streaks, and people generally just stick to what they've gotten comfortable with.
One reason people hate getting killed by the Lightning Strike is the stealth element. The bombs are usually finished with their bloodshed before the announcer even finishes telling you there is a strike on its way. I dont know how effective Flak Jacket is against it, but if you're targeted, it's hard to counter it.
But at the end of the day, both of these score streaks average 2 or slightly less (maybe 1.8) kills. My personal average is below 1.5. Is that really too much? Think about past games. In every COD prior to BO2, the 7 killstreak slot was held by the Attack Chopper. It was a beast in COD4, lame in MW2, formidable in Black Ops 1, and lame again in MW3. I don't know the numbers, but I would certainly guess the average kills from the Chopper in COD4 and BO1 was 3 or higher. If not shot down, it could get up to around 6 or 7 sometimes. While not as strong, I believe the MW2 and MW3 Choppers got around 2 kills on average. Honestly, I don't see a problem with an average of 2 kills per use with both the Hellstorm and Lightning Strike. The Lightnight Strike rightly has a slightly higher degree of dependability, costing 50 more points. If the RCXD and Hunter Kill yield about 1.1 kills, and the AGR/Dragon Fire/Stealth Chopper yield around 3-4, doesn't 2 sound about right for 700-800 points?
I do not think either of these score streaks need a nerf, but knowing Treyarch, they probably will nerf them at some point. What are your thoughts on the matter? How many kills should a 700 or 800 score streak reward you with on average?
