I have 2 questions: 1. How is the match bonus calculated in Black Ops? Is there an exact formula within the game code that we could see? I was able to find a formula for calculating Match Bonus in COD4 on another site that looked like this: I assume the formula for black ops is similar in that your match bonus goes up the higher your level and the longer the game lasts. 2. Are the XP numbers for all challenges accessible via the game code? I'm looking for something like this: callofduty.wikia.com/wiki/Call_of_Duty:_Modern_Warfare_2_ChallengesBut for Black Ops. In case you are wondering why I'm asking these questions its because I'm creating a leveling guide for Black Ops. I was able to prestige in 50 games this past weekend with double XP and I think people could benefit from the tips I have for leveling. I am at prestige 13 with only 7 days of game time played so I feel I am moving fairly quickly through the levels. I made a similar guide for MW2 but never really publicized it: mw2prestiges.blogspot.com/2010/09/mw2-info-tips-prestige-leveling-guide.html

Match bonus really probably hasn't changed...
Except the multipliers for wins/losses depend on gametype. I remember seeing that in another thread somewhere asking for xp info.

Do people see prestige as a motivation to play?

Do people see prestige as a motivation to play? Yes, in order to get Gold Guns. However, the average player loses steam at 4-5 because they simply don't have the time/skill/patience or the next big game is on the horizon.

Do people see prestige as a motivation to play? I don't. I'm not going through getting pro perks again. That is hell. I'm still not even done getting all of them now. Just need Marathon and Ninja. If I didn't have to grind for pro perks, I wouldn't mind prestiging.

MastaQ then don't grind for them? the only pro perk i go for is SoH, outside of that, they're too difficult to deticate myself into getting until i hit 15 and really i only use FJ, SoH/WL, and nin. FJ pro is useful but not mandatory to use. SoH/WL aren't that hard to get at all. and nin pro is worthless. The only perk i wish were easier was tac mask, i;d use that over ninja if it wasn't so difficult for me to grind it (once i have it pro, i'm about to perstige anyway D:) on topic, i average a day time played per prestige so it'll be nice to cut that in half

Post some quick tips up as fast as possible please? I've averaged slightly over 24h on each prestige and I'm just now at the end of my 6th (need like 20k more exp to prestige) with ~7.5 days of playtime. I don't mind grinding the pro perks but it is starting to get a little tedious.

Sure here are the best 5 suggestions I can give you: 1. Always play with a full team. Winning is crucial to leveling fast because you get a 1 bonus multiplier instead of 0.5 effectively halving your match bonus. I have about a 7.6 W/L and that would be a 16 W/L if the other teams hosts didn't dashboard all the time. 2. Always buy XP contracts. 3000 XP for winning a match of sabotage in under 2 minutes? Yes please! I have earned over 700,000 XP from contracts and I suggest you get used to buying them. That being said... Don't buy contracts that make you suck.. I never purchase contracts like use ACOG+Extended mags for kills.. that will just waste a bunch of games as you try to use a retarded gun. 3. Each challenge to obtain a pro perk is worth 2000 XP. Make sure you do all the easy ones and the ones that work well together. For example did you know you get 2000 XP for shooting enemy equipment through a wall while using the hardened perk? It's simple, throw hacker + hardened on and look for a claymore and shoot it through a wall... Easiest 2000 XP ever. 4. Browse your regular challenges for a ton of potential XP. For example did you know there is a bankshot challenge worth 5000 XP? Use scavenger/warlord pro for a few matches and throw tomahawks everywhere... Easy 5000 XP. 5. Use gametype leveling to your advantage. HQ overall has the biggest leveling advantage. 50XP for every 5 seconds of the HQ held by your team. A 250 win HQ game will give you 2500XP + Kills/assists/captures/challenges/contracts. It's not uncommon to get 10,000 XP for an HQ game... My highest earning game was 44,451 XP for one game of Headquarters. Also if there is a good contract out for a specific gametype that is worth it go ahead and play. There are some really great one and done contracts that net you 3000 easy XP. S&D can be very good for leveling if you are good at it. When I say good you need to be able to consistently 4-0 or 4-1 the other team relatively quickly and get 4-8 kills a game. That might rival the leveling speed of HQ however I still feel HQ has an advantage because the gun challenges and perk challenges are all much easier to get when playing HQ as opposed to a one life game like S&D. One last thing... If you really want to level fast, subscribe to my youtube channel @ youtube.com/oTradeMark =) Heh jk, but seriously, watch some players that are better than you and get better at the game... The more you kill stuff / capture stuff, the faster you level. I will be posting all 50 games of my last prestige so you can see how I went through it so quickly.

Do people see prestige as a motivation to play? I do, I love prestiging... I always use a lot of custom class slots so that motivates me to continue leveling plus prestiging makes me mix things up and use different classes than the ones I like the most. The gold guns and face paints are not that big of deal to me but they are kind of a nice novelty reward

I prestige because I feel like I am wasting xp not doing it, but I do miss my pro perks when I prestige every time. Not having ghost pro to instantly shoot down the occasional CG, for instance, is a pain.

Yea I always buy contracts for xp, try to burn the easy pro challenges and hunt the challenges for easy xp towards the end of my prestige. I think the main problem is that I rarely have people online that I play with. That combined with the fact that my isp sucks, means my W/L is like a .65 despite a 1.26 k/d.
Add me on psn people! lol

Add me on psn people! lol I imagine my full guide should help you out as there are a lot of tricks that people don't know about to get easy XP out of pro perks and what not. Like a lot of times perks have synergistic perks to go along with them. Lightweight/Steady Aim/Ninja all need knife kills... So throw those 3 perks on with a ballistic knife and spend 2 games getting that 6000 XP for all 3 perks. A lot of people struggle with certain pro perks. Can't get the reload and finish kills off of SoH? Use a noob tube or throw a stun grenade, reload and kill... Stuns count as a hit so reloading afterwards and killing a player counts as a finish. Need frag tossbacks? Throw on flak jacket climb a tower like in firing range and then toss a decoy grenade next to you... People will throw all sorts of grenades at you and you just need to catch them and throw them back (beware of stickies) Also, are you good at FFA? If so get 29 kills and then save up your killstreaks and use them all at the end... This will allow you to get the 2500 XP final kill cam challenges... I can play like 20 games and get 50,000 XP out of those FFA games just from the final killcam challenges.

hq relies too much on being on good team. Your xp per min. will suck if you're on a losing team since there are very few even games.
If you play solo, go for Domination as it has 3 points to cap and defend for XP while losing, demolition has 2 but may get more points for plants and defuses.
I'm at 11th prestige in under 9 days with 1.05 k/d playing objectives with flak jacket like it's my job.
If you're an average player, I think you'll lose potential xps trying for gun challenges instead of playing with overpowered guns like Famas.
Look under playercard challenges for easy XP like diving thru 5 windows and don't forget to die in a fall.
check your leaderboards to see your points per min. stat. my HQ is bit higher than domination, which is much higher than TDM. I only play HQ with full team.

Absolutely HQ relies on a team... The first thing I recommended was finding a good group of guys to play with consistently. Plenty of bros in the other thread to add as well.
Dom I think would be outdone by groundwar if you have a good connection as you multiply your encounters and kills when playing groundwar plus it mixes in dom with tdm

If this helps anyone who wasn't going to...
I started on Jan 4th and I'm almost 12th. If I had started on 11th Nov I'd have hit 15th a long time ago.

So what about the CoD points? How are they calculated? directly from the XP, so does match bonus and challenges help? or only from match bonus + xp gathered in game? or what? I was never interested in this before, but now I hit the 15th, I would like to know For prestiging, I start with HQ, till level 18. then make classes and do whatever I want and which is convenient to get some challenges done. then when I want to go really fast I go play some more HQ (Although HQ is not good for all types off challenges I cant leave SoH @ home when playing HQ)

COD Points are 10% of your earned XP during the match minus contract/challenge XP

Quickly read over your guide. For the level and xp breakdown, you wrote 58000 for level 50 to prestige. It's actually 59700. Also, you didn't write the total (1262500)

Ok, I read your whole guide, and I see you haven't tackled weapon selection yet. I made a spreadsheet for the weapon challenges. I only play domination, takes about 3000 kills to prestige.
I can e-mail you the spreadsheet if you want, or if someone explains to me how to put it on the forum so that it looks fine, then I can do that.
