I don't mean to get off on a rant here, but what's with the CoD community? What's with the mentality of your typical CoD player?
Earlier today I was destroying some randoms with my Type 95 (yes I know it's a "noob" gun). However, I received a lot of hate for my tactics. My setup was as follows:
Type 95 w/ rapid fire & red dot
Scavenger Pro Blast Shield Pro SitRep Pro
Specialist: Sleight of Hand Pro - Dead Silence Pro - Blind Eye Pro
I don't understand, how does this warrant hate, when these players who were complaining about me were all using Assassin "Pro" ACRs? I think the ACR is a hell of a lot more nooby and legitimately OP compared to the Type 95. This wasn't the only time either; this happens A LOT.

It's ridiculous. I also get hate for using shotguns. 'Cause you know, they're so overpowered.

As if they could even if I didn't have it on. I only had it on more for the flash/stun resistance.

Even in spite of their advantage, they still got slapped.
Oh yeah, I should add that on several occasions the team I was up against were spamming CUAVs and EMPs. As if Assassin ACRs weren't bad enough.

It is normal for a CoD player to pin the cause of their death on LITERALLY ANYTHING but themselves. I've met plenty of people who cannot and will not ever admit they screwed up.

The vast majority of the CoD community consists of whiny kids who, as usual, cry and complain about everything.

COD online creates a lot of frustration when you die and I would not decide on the mentality of COD players on the basis of their emotions shown during the game.
The problem is that your death is someone’s victory and glory. In singleplayer or strategic games if you fail noone is happy and noone saw it. PC won’t inform you politely that you are a noob and should uninstall the game.
The right question is about emotions that COD causes and influence on behaviour of generally normal people ….

| At its worst it makes me want to break controllers and throw tvs. I resist the temptation every time, but I feel like it would still make me feel better if I acted on it just once. Of course I'll be even more pissed later for breaking something I needed. I have almost no exclamations of rage when I'm in a party or have my mic in, but I notice I do start to say doo-doo when no one is around to hear me. Cod can make the most level headed person dangerously close to exploding given enough time and bulldoo-doo has happened. And this isn't even counting the trolls with a mic deliberately trying to piss you off. Its amazing that what is thought to be such an extremely fun game can cause in terms of frustration.

its somewhat the devs fault. they Foxtrotting lie(is it lying?) about stats and everything else. in a way they have a created this toxic environment.
most people playing the game are youngsters, and if you've ever been to a school ever in your life(in any part of the world) you know how toxic that environment is. they carry that adolescent bulldoo-doo over into cod. this is why teenaged jesus invented weed. i read that on the back of His rookie card. magicians rock.
edit: although i completely agree with you cmck, thats not at all what im talking about.

I think pretty much everybody has tried something not exactly advisable when they were in high school. Its almost a set in stone tradition. A misspent youth is totally worth the time spent.

Its merely that any weapon that instakills will always receive hate, as the person killed by it feels like they had no chance to fight back, ergo, you had an unfair advantage

+1. IMHO this is the exact reason. As a result, you'll hear hate comments when you are using the following weapons/tactics:
1) Type 95 2) Shotty 3) Sniper Rifle used in QS way 4) Panic melee 5) MK14 (to lesser degree)
It's quite understandable to me, as I also feel quite annoyed when I am killed by these weapons without being able to have a decent chance to fight back. The difference is that I understand this is instakill is what they are good at. What I would do is to take a mental note about this player and his habits so I can try to outsmart him in the latter part of the game rather than dying the same way repeatedly. If he can still beat me, then I respect him for being the master of the weapon/tactics.
If a player is repeated dying to the same weapon/tactics because he was not able to make proper adjustments (by choosing a different loadout and/or switching to a different play style), then he has not obtained a complete understanding on what CoD game play is like.

For Type 95 specifically: IMHO it is only noobish if used in a campy manner (I know because I used to do that ). I respect the players who can run around with it aggressively, it is certainly not easy to use if played that way.

The prestiging thing cuts both ways, anyway. If you're low then you get called a noob, yet if it's high you're labled a no-life.
Also, I'm on prestige 4 and I'd rather stay there; I love the emblem and there's no way in hell I'm Golding the shotguns again. >:C

For someone who doesn't have a headset I've gotten sit rep pro a lot. And yet I've only gotten marksman once.
I think that after they added new prestiges people never say anything about not prestiging as long as you're at 10th.

This basic principle is what the majority of the community would strongly disagree with, I think. It's very Sirlin-esque; true, but anyone who points it out to anyone else is (apparently) an what what. Irrespective of the relative strength of individual weapons and tactics, if one player consistently uses them to beat another player, the first player is the better player.
If it's a "noob tactic" (gun, perk, etc) and you lose to it, who's the noob?
At a minimum, a superior player should at least be able to win by adopting the same "noob tactic" as the inferior player, with better execution. This option also happens to have a greater psychological impact than many others. Getting killed repeatedly with your own gun can be demoralizing.

@AIDS The problem w/ "OP" set ups is that doesn't allow for variety in the community. The average pony feels like he/she has to use a certain set up to compete and then suddenly is the game is a boring cookie cutter snooze-fest.
