I've been using the Ballista extensively since I unlocked it both because I think it looks way cooler than the DSR, and I wanted to use the ironsights.
So I finally unlocked the Ironsights today, and wow, it's quite possibly the worst sniper ever. Most matches I could average a 1.5-2 K/D using it with Dual Band and Ballistics CPU, but I was struggling to break positive on the same maps with the ironsights, and that was including more than 50% of my kills as C4!
What was a nimble and powerful Mid-Long Range weapon is transformed into a slow and awkward CQC version of its former self. The KSG beats it in almost every way: The sway is horribly bad (thankfully you can at least hold breath), the firerate is slow, and the ironsights are so bulky and obstructive that the long range advantage it has over the KSG is lost because it takes 10 years to line up a shot past 15 metres.
Has anyone used the Ballista with ironsights before? Does anyone share my sentiment?

Ballista should aim at .30s, reload faster than the others by a good 25%+, have ~80RPM firerate, and Irons should drop ADS time and sway notably. Now its good.

In what way?
XPR would be a semi auto version with worse handling. Better for the inexperienced player. DSR would be a slower shooting version with worse handling, but higher damage. Better for the average player.
The SVU... its not really competing with it.

Surely I wasn't the only one who only used the Nugget with bayonet in W@W and sniped people all the way across the map? If you're in KSG range with the Ballista with irons you're doing it wrong, I love the Ballista with irons

I guess it falls under the skill indexed rule. In the hands of anyone decent, it'll outclass the others. TBH I'm fine with that. I mean even though the xpr is semi auto, you rarely ever need to fire it that fast. And effective RPM is much slower considering that recoil. That's what I figure as well, but I dont see it as decent.. I'd see it as a pretty good sniper... Losing the waist 1HK is a big deal in CoD. If it wasnt, the M21 w/ SP in MW2 would have been the best gun ever.

IMHO it's ok. But obviously you can get better scores with a AR like FAL.
The sway and raise times are the killers for me. The iron sights too, are a mess.

I still preferred the Springfield but the bolt-actions were all pretty much clones of eachother with slight differences in RoF, so it mostly boiled down to which irons you liked the best.

It's a novelty. Obviously you're going to have more difficultly hitting people at long range without a scope.
I think it's fun to mess around with, although I wish the iron sights were less obstructive. They're identical to the Blops 1 FAL, which I didn't like.

I want to see CoD slip in a civil war type of gun, like a Springfield Model 1861. Like let me go 'old school', using this beastly gun and it's 3 RpM rate of fire. Make it have a dual scope, ie, the old 'flip-up' sights on the gun. Also make it so one's reload animation includes the rod, percussion cap placement, ...the whole works. Then when it's time....fire off the minie ball. Big old 58 cal bullet, blow holes in player's arms.
Now we are talking. There's some novelty.

Matches cost one pick-10 point. Otherwise, you can only fire the musket if standing next to a burning barrel.

Call of Duty: Tribal Warfare. Bows, blowguns, spearthrowers and clubs. For killstreaks you pray to the tiki gods and fire from heaven descends upon your enemies, but only after you have offered them enough blood. Eh, eh?

Having cleared ~600 kills with the iron sights ballista (I got my title, and have kept using it, because I am a sadist), these are my thoughts -
- God it sucks to use, 95% of the time. - On some maps, such as Standoff, it has its place. Iron sights makes the ballista a great medium range sniper rifle. - Way too much sway. It should have none. - I constantly feel cheated that iron sights costs a pick10 slot as an attachment - you're taking something off of the gun! It should be an option at gun customization, not an attachment. - I hate how obstructive the iron sights are. They are terrible; why couldn't they be more like the MTAR? - Kills with it are really, really satisfying. It definitely feels like the most difficult to use gun in the game. - I wish (better) iron sights were an option for every sniper rifle. I'd love the semi-auto guns with it. - Use ACOG instead.

- I constantly feel cheated that iron sights costs a pick10 slot as an attachment - you're taking something off of the gun! The FNH Ballista does not have any iron sights on it in real life. So you are taking something off of it and replacing it with something else. Basically, 3arc is trying to be "realistic" here.

Not even.
The RDS offers no statistical advantage and is purely an aesthetic choice, but costs a point.
Same thing.

The biggest complaint I have about the Iron Sights is how obstructive the rear peep sight is. There have been many times an entire enemy has been blocked by it.

The FNH Ballista does not have any iron sights on it in real life. And I highly doubt you get the scope for free either.

Spend all three attachment slots on getting a scope.
