In the demo spotting an enemy was pretty easy, maybe even too easy. But now i cant spot for crap even if i am looking right at someone. It seems to be the most irritating when i am piloting the UAV... I can be looking directly at an enemy (or two) who is clearly visible and the game wont let me spot them. Sometimes it takes me up to 7 attempts just to get it to work.
Are there new rules associated with spotting now? Like anti-spam filters? (although i usually dont spam em).
Also, does the spot last longer if you maintain visual contact?

Might be connection trouble. I've spotted it a few times, where I'll be firing at someone and trying to spot, and it fails miserably. It might be a spam filter, like you said (which I hope not )

Definitely spam filter. There's a cooldown of several seconds to spot again if you miss the first time, but you can spot person to person very quickly if you don't miss.
Think of it like a combo that you shouldn't break.
Bad design choice nonetheless.

There do seem to be some kind of "overheat" penalties for spamming the "Socialize" button similar to overusing an MG or Power Tool, but I don't see any numbers for it in what I can currently access (how annoying it is that the one thing that I can't get in to likely holds all the pertinent info in common_mp).
At least for lasting spots, Vehicles will stay spotted for twelve seconds as long as they are in line of sight. Infantry will stay spotted for four seconds in line of sight.
If line of sight is broken from the spotter, the spot will vanish after two seconds.

I am curious as to what the spotter scope actually does. I haven't noticed much. If anyone knows, an answer would be greatly appreciated.

It automatically spots enemies that you aim at without having to hit the socialize button.
