If you have video recording capabilities you could always compare from shot to shot trying to compare frame x of the recoil to another shot at the same frame # to try to account for the weapon model's recoil animation. Would be a PITA and even then I don't know if the recoil animation on the weapon actually always starts on the frames or if it could start between frames and get interpolated... which I suspect. You would also want a rock steady FPS for such a test and even then it would take comparing lots of shots at lots of different timings, because small kicks would center out fast.
I kinda doubt anyone will do any extensive testing like this. Maybe people will figure out how to mod the game and do good ol' fashioned CoD4 style testing. ;3
Actually... Wouldn't an RDS or Holo basically nullify the effects of the weapon model animation, at least as long as the dot/reticule is visible? That sounds much better. Just mark the center of the screen (something I do with a dry erase marker anyway when I play seriously) and watch how much the dot wiggles. I think most weapons have a tiny amount, just to supplement the weapon model animation more than anything.
Then again, maybe I'm wrong.

Viewkick only. In previous CODs it is believed that gunkick always settles before the next round is fired.

Viewkick is a velocity set in a given direction, decided from a random roll from the given values.
So, for the ACR, it can roll a 30 up to 35 upwards. -50 to 50 side to side
Centerspeed works against it separately in X and Y directions by accelerating it towards the X and Y axis.
Upon the next shot fired, the velocity is instantly set to the new recoil values
Gunkick I'm not sure how it works but it is entirely independent from viewkick.

Any way I could second an earlier request for a plot of the CM901 w/ Shotgun (or GL), with and without Kick? What rate of fire is it with the underbarrel? I have done the plots for the CM901 with and without underbarrel attachment, assuming 750 RPM with. There appears to be very little difference between them, and because of the highly random nature of the recoil, there is no point in me posting the plots. The spread is pretty much the same as without. BUT the percentage of 2nd, 3rd and 4th shots fired when the gun is fully recentered drops from 18%,21%,18% to 15%,18%,15%, a slight reduction in absolute accuracy. This is without kick, and based upon simulating the firing of 10,000 three round bursts. I'm not going to try the M16 v Type 95 RF plots until I get confirmation of the RF fire rate. Barely worth plotting if it is only 10%; and a waste of an attachment IMO. Edit - just had a quick look at M16 with and without RF at 10% increase. Very little difference, and impossible to find 2 representative plots. Perhaps a slight reduction in the number of shots on the axes with RF, but hard to tell. Again, a slight reduction in no. of subsequent shots on target 25%,25%,24% to 21%,24%,22%. RF definately not worth it at 10%, IMO (if it is lol).

I have posted recoil scaatter plots for the effects of RF on the following guns: MP5 +25% P90 +25% LMGs +25% At this stage I am only posting RF plots where the RF increase calculated from the game guide data matched testing carried out by Bros. Test details can be found on this post by fred - denkirson.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=3425The testing has trhown up some real quirks, such as rate of fire reduction for MG36 + grip, and only around 14% RF increase for the MP7. Random. I'll post more plots once more solid data becomes available.

The calculations assume that viewkick is a velocity applied to the gun, and that centerspeed is acceleration applied to the gun to return to the starting point. I have assumed that recoil occurs as a random linear distribution between the limits for vertical and horizontal kick as published in the links above. The centerspeed figure is applied to this distribution; recentering occurring when kick <= centerspeed / 5 x fire time. The recentering is applied to the vertical and horizontal kick separately (there has been some discussion about this on this forum). I understand (or think I understand) everything except the underlined bit. I'm not sure what it's trying to say. It kind of sounds like you're saying the acceleration towards the center doesn't start immediately, but if that's the case, I'm not sure what kick is supposed to mean or how that inequality works. This is all fascinating stuff, though, and thanks for doing it!

Recentering, meaning it is back where it started [no recoil deviation]
So, I would do it by:
Centerspeed/5*firetime*2 Centerspeed is divided by 5 as ... cant think of the word. But note there is no real math in that step. Just conversion.

But note there is no real math in that step. Just conversion. Wait, so you're saying the acceleration listed on the charts is 5 times the actual acceleration? So, for example, the ACR accelerates toward the center at 1350/5 = 270°/second 2 (or whatever the units are)? That might explain why the numbers I've been getting are weird.

Correct I'm guessing they did that to make them easier to work with.

HELP!
Anyone know where I can get free image hosting with a bigger allowance than photobucket?
They are being very coy about the actual figures in their terms.

Photobucket monthly allowance is 10GB.
Looks like I need at least twice that; probably more. Any suggestions?

Thanks asasa.
I've signed up to imageshack but am struggling with them a bit; not nearly as convenient as photobucket for dealing with a lot of images in an organized manner. I'll find a solution somehow. Soon.

Have started transferring the MW3 recoil plots to imageshack. Please be patient. Edit - OP image transfer complete - back in business

You cannot.
There was a glitch that allowed snipers to transfer their stance dependent reduction to other weapons, but that was removed recently.

^^ If you went prone while zoomed in with sniper, you had a no recoil glitch that tranferred to all weapons you picked up or carried.

I think there should be charts made for all the weapons when crouching or prone, because I am finding that even the PKP w/out kick, grip, or stability is like a laser gun when you are prone and very easy to stay on target with if you are crouching.

Question: would it be easy to do a recoil chart for CoD4's guns? All the stats are on the main xanga page for the guns. If it wouldn't take a while or a lot of work, that is.

Will we ever find out how much the ACOG and Thermal will affect recoil for non sniper rifle weapons?
