Hi Den, are you planning to eventually dissect the PS2 game code to pull stats on weapons, vehicles, equipment, etc like you´ve done in the past with CoD?
i did a lot of testing with ps1 because i was curious on just what each weapon did...especially the vehicle mounted ones. This is why seeing all your stats on CoD drew me your website a couple years ago.
I'd be happy to help with it.

Yeah.
Planetside 2 will hopefully be my next focus game. Testing things will be pretty easy. More than that, it decompiling the packed files may not be too difficult for those with the skill for such things, we might see the straight up numbers from the data.
I can't invest myself into Call of Duty or Battlefield like I used to. The reason I ever play them in the first place is almost non-existent these days. The only time I start them up is when some friends are around. If it weren't for one guy, I'd probably have never bothered with multiplayer shooters after 2002 and just stuck with RPGs and fighting games.
Because of the nature of Planetside 2, all of us can get in on it. Free game, virtually no restriction as to how many people are together in one space. Make an outfit. Organize with whoever is on.

Been considering a XIM myself but I'm not sure how useful it will be at this point. I'd like to make the jump to COD on console since the community size is laughable on PC but I have to wonder if I will get more than one game out of it since the new gen of consoles is rumored to be coming out in 2013. What do you think Toys, still worth it for (possibly) one game?

yes. definitely, but i wouldn't wait until next april... a game costs 65 bucks, the new xime costs 90. lemmie put this in a different perspective.
i've flown r/c planes for 17 years now.
a good hooker makes $250-300hour. i dont mean street walker, i mean escort giving you the GFE Girl-Friend Experience. i've planted five times that in the ground in less than two minutes... ninety bucks for something that you can easily rack up 150 hours a month of entertainment on is splitting hairs. LoL!
video games are a cheap hobby lol
the, ah. as long as microsoft/playstation continue using controllers & general hardware that support basic HID (Human Interface Device), then XIM's will continue working on future hardware.

Yeah, I wouldn't be waiting long. I'll be getting one before Black Ops 2 launches if I decide to. Also, are you saying that a XIM Edge would work on an Xbox 720 (after appropriate reconfiguring)? Or did you mean that they would release another XIM for the next gen? That would be one hell of an investment if the former.

yes, continue working on next gen is what we all believe. provided they do not change security methods much beyond what they're using now, and that they continue supporting everything as a basic HID (why would they re-invent the USB wheel for no reason?) xim-3 & 4 will def work on next gen. they're USB pass-through. they capture/playback/modify what the stock controllers put out. provided they dont do anything major to the controller security xim 3 & e only need a firmware update (they come out all the time thus far)
xim-1/2 will continue working providing current xbox 360 controller is supported and/or someone makes an x360->x720 controller adapter.
they're released as new XIM's over time as new features/requests have come out. Four generations in five years. xim-1 was just a tutorial. anyone could make one. xim-2 changed security methods, cut lag by estimated 30ms, added settings for more accuracy & accuracy itself went up by a factor of 254-256 times xim-3 introduced "smart trainers" a method by which a PC plays games for days & records movement feedback, taking much legwork out of setting up the device. also ditches the requirement to be tethered to a PC (tho you can still tether for more advanced features, macroing, etc) xim-e introduced the three biggest user requested features, editing of the "smart trainers", native ps3 support & $60bucks cheaper than xim-3.
the first upgrade was an actual for-sale product, the last two due mostly to user requested changes.

Well, I think you've pretty much convinced me. I do wonder though, does any wired Xbox controller work? I only have a plug and play wireless (which doesn't work I read) and one of these I got for Mortal Kombat: www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Pad-EX-Turbo-Black/dp/B002LT9PXQIt's not a big deal if I have to get a stock wired controller, but it would save a few bucks if I didn't have to. Thanks for all the help!

killer. all licensed wired controllers should work. some unlicensed controllers people have had issues. and no, plug & play wireless controllers dont work. they continue running data wireless & just charge through the wire :\
always funny. i didnt say that to sell one. just point out to DEN console+XIM = way easier time gaming with buddies. the social aspect on console is just so much better. sure not that many games are over 30fps, sure they all look like trash. but they're cheap and five years later i can still find buddies that play all the games i play going back to 2007. i cant wait for the next gen. hardware. wont be great, but it doesn't have to be. thats the thing with console. i play both, always played both. everything console lacks in the hardware(and unless you own an XIM peripheral) department is made up for by the fact that pretty much *everybody* has a console. networking is easier & player bases are massive. no splitting friends between a dozen games. there's like, only so many massively popular console games at any given time and everybody has most of them. (COD, Halo, BF, "random fly-by-night FPS game", racing game & sports game)
but honestly, it puts the fun factor for playing on console way more fun. aint perfect, but no more being hampered by the amazing "never fit a man's hand, quality 5 cent chinese potentiometer & plastic joysticks" if you're gunna be like MLG'ing it up, na you wont be any better (competitive play itself is much less dynamic, more positioning & patience) but for pub matches... dear god. run around hyper aggressive for a month & figure out what you can/cant do. then you just do stupid stuff all the time to have fun, look up & you've still got good stats.
i had learned to play with a controller starting in the COD4 beta (my cousin and a friend BOUGHT me my first xbox 360 just to get me to play NCAA Football, gears & NASCAR on it). i got an xim-1 as soon as i could winter 2007. id never go back for something like COD. my KDR even took a massive nose dive when i got my xim-1 just from getting use to it. it never mattered because i was dieing just from running around being an idiot being the only person that could play high speed Quake-CPMA/Unreal style where you just look around violently and attempt to mow everyone else down simply by "out aiming" anything that dares enter your field of fire. VS all the controller CODs where everyone else just sorta hangs around staring in one direction. (well that was then, the average player is better now)
F that. load up an XIM, mow down a half dozen people, rinse & repeat. hah

Yeah that's pretty much the plan. I'd prefer to play MP games on console just because of the player base. 1 year from BO2 launch on PC it'll be a ghost town like it is now, pretty much the only game type you can play is TDM and the game is still littered with garbage 24/7 Nuketown servers. Plus, don't have to worry about hackers ruining the game a few months down the line. Dedicated servers are nice for connections but that's about it, abusive admins and dumb rule sets (50 man COD4 servers come to mind) I can live without.
I haven't been able to touch my Xbox in a few months but I'm going to give BO1 and GCI a shot with a controller. I'm not terrible with one but if I'm still not happy with the results I'll pick up a XIM and pub-stomp to my heart's content.
