Look what I found in my inbox yesterday: Really not sure what I think of this. Much as I would like to give Planbetside2 a try, I'm most unhappy about shelling out $40 for Beta access.

Holy batman, 40$ for beta access is really cheap. Cheap, as in a cheap move by Sony.

Spotted this in the smal print at the bottom of the email:
"The Alpha Squad package will be available for purchase for a limited time only, until one week before we launch PlanetSide 2, on or before December 31, 2012"
I think that I'll hang on to my $39.99 thank you very much!

A lot of F2P games let you buy in but you keep your progress (or the things you bought, at least) post launch. Games like Tribes: Ascend and DOTA2 you can either buy into beta or purchase things during the beta that you will still have when the game launches. I'd be surprise if this didn't work the same way.
