So custom loadouts override default classes from top to bottom, huh? That just sealed the deal for the first a few prestige perm unlocks for me.
First: ghost no question (equipped by Operatives default class)
Second: TI no question (equipped by Specialist default class)
Third: most likely Flak Jacket (equipped by Mercenary default class)

Why do you even use that ghost? It's imposible to survive in this game without Flak Jacket. And Hardline much better for killwhores. Lightweight is better for MLG Pro beasts.

I do lament the loss of the default classes: I used the M1216 class when I myself unlocked the M1216 so I could use the laser from the start.

After shooting down UAV all day today, I am having second thoughts on Ghost as well. On the one hand, not having Ghost is no longer a big deal. UAVs can be easily countered by just taking them out and getting 75 pts as reward. On the other hand, if I don't get it unlocked I'll have to choose 1) not getting more extra custom loadout slots, or 2) not having any class with Ghost equipped, once I prestige.

...which is a 600 point scorestreak.

And unless some unrelated bug wiped out my custom classes.... it seems prestiging wipes out your custom classes for the league matches for no reason...

everyone seems to be forgetting the counter uav CUAV is an awesome scorestreaks with reasonably good ROIs. Not hard to obtain and can rack you up a bunch of free points. However, the darn thing is locked until level 33. Before that the Ghost-less prestiging players still need to rely solely on FHJ-18 to counter UAV.

Alright, after creating and studying a unlock matrix with rows representing levels and columns representing categories for half an hour, I am looking at the following candidates to spend perm-unlock token on after prestiging (sorted by descending order of which level to unlock). The candidacy is determined by 2 criteria: 1) unlock level > 30; 2) offers rich options for customizing loadouts;
Ghost (perk 1) - 55 Swarm (scorestreak) - 54 K9 Unit (scorestreak) - 51 Awareness (perk 3) - 50 TI (tactical) - 47 Scavenger (perk 2) - 44 Orbital VSAT (scorestreak) - 42 C4 (lethal) - 41 Dead Silence (perk 3) - 38 Trophy System (tactical) - 35 KSG (Shotty) - 34 Flak Jacket (perk 1) - 32
Break them down into tiers:
Tier 1: Ghost (peace of mind against UAV spam), TI (total control of where to respawn), Flak Jacket (survive explosive spam)
Tier 2: Trophy, C4, KSG, Scavenger (ammo pickup not needed, but explosive pickup is great to have).
Tier 3: Dead Silence & Awareness. Only useful for players who can effecitively sound whoring.
Bottom tier - all scorestreaks: while Swarm / K9 / Orbital VSAT can be very devastating when unleashed, they are not easy to obtain. Only the players who can constantly reach them would think about using the perm-unlock on these.
Thoughts?
My personal order (still decided to go with Ghost due to its-pain-in-the-ass lvl55 unlock and the default class with it is the first one to be wiped out):
P1: Ghost P2: TI P3: Flak Jacket P4: Scavenger P5: Trophy (Dom capping) P6: C4 P7: Awareness P8: Dead Silence P9: KSG

maybe its just because i've been playing HQ lately but 600 points is pretty freakin reasonable. When you possess the HQ, do you receive a constant stream of score?

After shooting down UAV all day today, I am having second thoughts on Ghost as well.... well well, so you did not play "COD:gun-on-gun" but trained anti-aircraft defense skillz all day, good job : )

UAV spam functions like a snowball: first UAV will help teammates to get their UAVs, more UAVs lead to even more UAVs. If you can stop it right at the start every time however, you can have it completely under control. In games I played I only need to shoot down 2-3 UAVs per game to keep my team free of UAV worries.

Woody's put up a vid about prestiging but, unless I missed it somehow, he didn't mention anything about a permanent unlock?

Permanent unlocks are in create-a-class menu, not in prestige menu. So he probably didn't notice it

I'm with you witty. Those are going to be my first 3 unlocks as well. Ghost, just b/c. Then TI, especially for hardpoint/HQ. Flak Jacket 3rd for grenade spam, etc.

Scavenger is awesome and I need it sooner. So it is now ranked #4 on my list instead of #5, ahead of Trophy. I also need to ponder more about Scavenger vs. Flak Jacket. FJ is more useful, but it also is a significantly earlier unlock, so tough call.

does prestiging reset progress on challenges? i really want to unlock the calling cards for search and destroy under game mode challenges. but its going to take a hella long time to explode the bomb like 30 or 50 times... if i prestige, and that progress is erased, then f that noise.

Just for clarity, when you prestige:
1) You are awarded one permanent unlock token. This token can be used on anything you choose, it will be unlocked for the reminder of that prestige - and for every future prestige. For example, once you get to prestige 2 you'll have two items unlocked permanently.
2) You can also choose another create-a-class slot OR you can refund all your unlock tokens used during that prestige OR you can reset EVERYTHING (start the game over).
3) No challenges are reset. You retain all your progress on the challenges and on the guns (once they are unlocked). For example, if you had unlocked the suppressor for the MP7, once you prestige the suppressor will already be unlocked. Another example (just to be clear), if you were working on the challenge of winning 50 domination matches, and you had 48 wins, you will still be at 48 in the next prestige. Later prestige levels will definitely go much slower because you'll have completed a majority of the challenges.
Also, keep in mind that as of now it seems impossible to unlock everything without completing every prestige available. Additionally, you can only refund your unlock tokens a maximum of once per prestige if you choose. So, if you get to prestige 3 (for example) but decide you don't want to go any further, be very careful what you unlock - because you only have one chance to reset the tokens (if you didn't pick to have another create-a-class). I can see people getting to what they want to be their last prestige, but not saving enough unlock tokens to get what they want. I can see folks essentially getting forced to prestige - and I think that's 3arc's goal.
