Haven't used them yet, but I will say that I see the FAL being used more often than the SMR.

SMR - Huge range, terrible for close range. The slow firerate doesn't matter, you only need two shots. FAL - Faster firerate but lesser range. Since it's 3hk range is smaller, it has less recoil.

IMO, FAL is the only gun from previous games that received a good buff (almost no recoil). That's why I love it. And, according to stats, SMR is a semi-SR that means it's a crap for Black Ops II.

FAL has no recoil, regular hipfire, regular ads time, good fiterate, averageaverage reload times, and a balanced amount of ammo. Smr is the opposite, but with better range

I really don't understand why the hell Treyarch made SMR a nerfed M14. WHY does it get MW2 and BO FAL's crap hipspread?? Should have totally given it to the FAL OSW in this game.. And the FAL literally beats it in every other stat, except 2 hit kill range. >_>
MK14 in MW3, IMO was the best M14 ever.. OSOK to the head at least.

Just personally, I've been enjoying the SMR more than the FAL. But I still love the FAL! Still waiting to try the SMR in full auto.

The only problem with the fal is that the firecap is way too low. it should be the same as in w@w then it would be a copy of the M1A1 carbine and it would kick ass

I was going to use a prestige token on an M8, since I don't really like most of the ARs in this game (aside from the late unlocked ones), but then I unlocked Select-fire for the FAL. It's almost easy-mode.

Select Fire on both guns is garbage. It's slower than the fire cap. You're literally spending a point to make your gun kill slower.

It's not any easier, though. 600 rpm is not difficult at all. I don't have the world's fastest trigger and I accidentally hit the cap on them all the time.

I just think it is easier to hold the trigger than to keep clicking it, which gives room to error such as jamming the gun or not firing fast enough.

I would agree at higher speeds. 500-600 is slow enough that I don't think it's going to be any harder.

It's less mentally stressing. Oh, here comes someone (semi-auto) "ADOY ADOY ADOY OH GOD MY FINGER!" Versus full-auto. Here he comes "weeeeeeeeee." Just mow them through like you don't give a fuck.
I really hope that made sense.

Reiyu: Even if people on this forum say to you that Smr is garbage, don't listen to them ^^. 2 shots kills is extremely reliable. And the range buff on the Smr makes it an all-around weapon on the majority of the maps. Better than overestimated Fal. 2 shot kills range of the Smr is triple Fal's ! 2 shot kills Smr vs 3 shot kills Fal at mid-range ? What's the point, guys Just learn to anticipate enemies to negate the Smr's bad handling and all will be fine. Consider the Smr like the spiritual M60 Mw3. Destroy every UAV. Take Ghost. Use Claymores. The only problem with these semi-autos is the pre-SF period where you'll be getting crap times with your K/D ratio. Don't hesitate taking a very good secondary weapon like a Kap40 to help you successfully achieving the Select Fire goal. Carrier map ? Play with sniper rifles. With a Kap40. Same people who have said that Smr was craps will say to you that the An94 is a bad weapon...which is false too. To these people, did you know that you could kill faster with a Kap40 than most smgs at CQB ?? No ? ok. Stop saying craps for the sake and love of these forums. Thanks.

Dont need one. Theres a reason people dont use semi auto weapons when if you ignore they are semi auto, they arent bad at all.

There's some truth for both sides
for some people, select fire is a purely negative attachment. For others, it's not. The end(?)
as for the actual discussion. FAL probably ends up winning, but I wouldn't write the SMR off as useless. 2HK vs 3HK is quite a difference. If the SMR didn't had stupid small drawbacks like the extra hipfire spread they'd be pretty even. Or the SMR might've been a bit better even

^^I personally don't think so..
While SMR DOES have a longer 2 hit kill range, it's recoil is pretty noticable. It's hard to 2 shot kill someone from far away, because of it's high upwards recoil. You can't exactly spam the trigger with the SMR. FAL's recoil though, is practically non-existant, and can rape at all ranges.
So while SMR does have a longer 2 hit kill range, FAL's non-existant recoil more than makes up for it IMO. Not to mention, faster reload times, a larger mag size, higher RoF to take advantage of its non existant recoil, and even a narrower hipfire spread.
The SMR in this game is essentially a nerfed version of the M14 in BO, and to this day, many people here argue that the FAL in BO was better than the M14. BO FAL that actually had recoil, with a 20 round mag size.
