In SC2, your bonus pool accrues bonus points over time of inactivity and has no cap, save the slow rate at which it is generated. Ergo, you could capitalize on your bonus pool at any time during a season (which last several months) without penalty if you were inactive for a relatively long period of time. Here, missing a few weeks could possibly be very detrimental to your overall ranking since bonus pool points not used are lost forever. I don't know. I think their implementation of the Bonus Pool might not be so bad. I didn't catch how big the pool is, but I'm assuming it's not a ton of matches every week. So it emphasizes staying active consistently rather than just crapping out a bunch of matches. In the context of a league, especially one that apparently only runs for a month, that makes sense to me. Not sure when they added it, but they threw in a Team Deathmatch league, which is more up my alley. Played my placement games. Really fun, pulled off a double kill down 74-73 for the W in the first match. Much more intense than a public lobby. Was 4-0 on placement and a teammate ruined the chance for 5-0 by going. 0-16... My lord you'd think after 10 deaths you'd just find a corner and ADS camp some poor bastard just to get on the scoreboard... Anyway, so far "League" is one of the very few things that Treyarch is going to get any praise from me for in this installment.

league play works a lot like starcraft. you're placed into a sub-set of a couple hundred players and try to advance up it. you dont JUST go by wins and losses, you go by points YOU make INDIVIDUALLY based on your game performance. you move up or down based on the points you make (or loose). you have a bonus pool of 1,000 points a week. for your first 10 wins, you get an extra 100 points per match. (with bad matches being negative scores and average matches ranging from 10-30 points up to 130-170 positive ladder points a game. making the 100 bonus worth playing out!) you dont have to get to the top/bottom of one division to change divisions.
league play is a lot like having game-battles built in with none of the frustration of waiting and trying to get players together, cheating/misreporting stats, etc. once you (and everyone you play with) have established where you're at: 50% of the games are close for more than half the match. (something you WONT get in pub-matches, OR gamebattles - which is just as random) about 25% of the time you straight up roll kids about the other 25% of the time its not a close match. DO NOT play league or GB type games if you cry about lag, KDR or dieing. it attempts to make close games... that means in a close game everyone is going to have crap KDR's and having to be a martyr pushing objectives.
D.V. is full of it a lot of times, but he basically said league takes no consideration into the connection outside of the rough geographical locations. i believe it 100%. tons of games where 2/3rds of the lobby is three bar with the odd 2 bar. about like GB style ladders where you're just randomly accepting games.
league play is not the best thing ever, but completely full-fills any latent desire ive had to relive my MW2 GB glory days of dominating the 2v2 TDM and doing alright on the 5v5 S&D ladders.
i quit playing for KDR years ago. its boring as hell. same stuff, different day. load up a good class = name the score i need to hit. boring! so you spend all your time smurfing your stats using pitiful classes and making "rules" for your gameplay. nope, you *have* to shoot all your RPG-7's before you can use a gun. na no sprinting this game. you can ONLY shoot your gun after your nades/stuns have been thrown. no aim-down sight next game. pistol only match! bayonett iron-sight bolt-action rifle plus flamethrower match! ok everybody run a shotgun this match... not all the games in league are "competitive" but it IS a relatively huge proportion of the matches and you WILL incurre losses for no other reason than "our team of solid players got our ass beat by another solid group of players that took it more serious / had a straight up better gameplan than we did". i loose about 20% of my games maybe? compare that to just trolling pub matches four eight hours what are we talking about? loosing 5 matches in eight hours of playing?
the only thing (not bug) i wish they would do is make TDM mercenary (eliminate parties). the number of rage quitters will go up a ton, but itll mean more for "individual skill" IMO.
<- i was masters in pre-season (placed platinum) won 11 straight games, the only loss was from a disconnect and a n00b dropped. went straight into masters. we played placement matches for season one with real "heavy" players. lost 2 matches out of the 5. i placed high gold. played for one day and still wound up #50 masters.
it seems like the skill ratings are working fine.
