I been playing the demo all day. Megaman is really awkward, I don't like him. Villager having projectiles instead of hits for his bair and fair really throw me off. Mario and Pickajew are nice though. Controls aren't as bad as I expected. I might get the 3DS version after all. I'm still in awe that it looks just as good as Brawl but it's running hella smooth on a handheld.

Whomever is coming up with a new word for something they already had a word for is stupid. Just because it's a modified version of DI doesn't mean it needs a new word. "Separate words for different games" is dumb. We don't call quickscoping anything different in each CoD, even when the devs try to prevent it from working. I don't like all the assumptions being made that this game isn't going to be the CSGO to the smash series. It's literally the same situation. Nintendo clearly wants everyone to switch to this game, and I'm betting they will fix any glaring issues that pop up preventing this. It's fundamentally different from DI in the fact that they're adding a vector to the calculations, not merely influencing direction but the degree of knockback. Most people are calling it VI (vector influence), if that means anything.

I'm pretty sure most people are still gonna call it DI though.

I love how in that thread some people people used "affect" and "effect" incorrectly...when they are worried about people using vector/DI correctly.

Hey, his trophy wasn't found in game. Explain that. (neither was Isaac) The only reasonable explanation is that Nintendo has disavowed their existence.

It's heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere! I went to midnight release without any friends. It was fun-ish.
The aesthetics are most likely the best part about this game. They're delicious, the animations pop and the sounds are very. . . hmm, if I could combine the word crisp and hearty, that would be the hit sounds.
The gameplay is better than Brawl, slightly, but far from the golden oldies. To this point, there is negligible shieldstun, and you can drop your shield almost instantly, so the shield is the most powerful defensive option. The majority of rolls have been sped up (not morph ball roll because screw Samus amirite?), so it's easier to get away, and grabs have been speed up a teeny bit but taken a hit in the range department. Oh, Captain Falcon has THE BEST DASH GRAB IN THE GAME HOLY GUACAMOLE HE'S HUSTLING. You all already know the changes to airdodges in its landing lag and the ledge mechanics, and the fact that hitstun actually exists now. I wish it was more, though. Fast fall speed is fast, but aerial movement speed is independent from ground momentum once again. There's only about 3 viable stages, items have only on and off, there's no random stage switch option, the little things. A really bad part (bad in the sense that things don't happen when you want them to) is that the 10 frame buffer from Brawl seems to be back, it seems, since we have people doing frame-perfect dodges out of shield.
The soundtrack is limited, but half of them are going to be worthwhile for most people.
There are many game modes. If you're the sort of person that rages and resets homerun contest for hours until you get the perfect combo on that cheeky sandbag? Well, luckily, it reloads very quickly with some finger/stylus work. Most things load fast in this regard, even the 'character test screens' and stuff for custom moves and mii fighter creation. Speaking of which, Mii fighters are pretty darn buff, like, overly good. More on game modes, Smash Run is, as many have said in the past, like Air Ride's City Trial, and it can be fun. We face a ton of enemies SSE style in a large map and go around collecting equipment, moves, trophies, and the most relevant powerups, by generally destroying enemies and opening chests, with 'events' kinda like City Trial's UFO appearance, and special 'challenge' zones that usually entail more enemies packed in next to you. The equipment is really neat in the regard there are special effects to some of the boring, standard stat increase/decreases. My favorite raises the horizontal air speed of the fighter it's equipped to, which is deliciously fun for someone, say, Captain Falcon, who 'feels' slightly more like he did in Melee due to the high aerial mobility. Stuff like anti-flinch armor, or an equipment that makes smashballs gravitate towards you, that sort of stuff. No Event Matches, sadly. Mii Fighters instead of wire frames or alloys now. That Angry Birds analogue is in. We have classic with sliding scales of difficulty depending on how many coins you want to invest, about 6 stages no matter what, and path choice ('easy medium hard', the difference is usually one less fighter with you against giant opponents, or slightly smarter AI), and the player gets two stocks per each stage. All-Star mode is now organized by date. Online mode is neat. I haven't tried it yet. 'Conquest Mode' currently shows Mario winning against Megaman about 64 to 36. Streetpass consists of smashing tokens off a battlefield.
Any questions? You're free to ask if you have them!

I'm thoroughly jelly, what with having to wait for over another month for Wii U Smash... but hell, it'll be grand. Regarding equipment, I know there's a seemingly broken one that chronically replenishes your health by 2% -- how does that even work? Looks to be a boon in high Intensity levels.
Speaking of, my inquiry of that isn't a question, so much as a request; you know how the Intensity option works in Classic mode, right? See if you can score the background images of all nine difficulty levels. I'd love to see how the 'opponent' transitions from this feeble puff of flame into some real demonic badass as seen below. A video would be a bonus, even! :3

Sorry, I don't have a cam, but the transition is delicious OH AND BIG HOUSE 4 IS HERE WE GOT EVERYONE WITH MELEE AND PROJECT M GET IN HERE: For other streamers and more information: smashboards.com/threads/the-big-house-4-begins-saturday.371075/BRUH Edit: I'm dumb, there's probably a 'more options' thing that has the random stage select. There's a space for it in the rules, I just have to unlock it now.

Big Mac is a bit ridiculous atm. His spacing and foxtrot game is fantastic. His ability was pretty much designed for the 2 stock ranked gameplay. If you win the first stock, then you have a huge advantage in the second if you can land his KO.
right now I'm experimenting with controls. I want to optimize my air game and I really felt confined to big mac with the default setup (I just mirrored the default with grab/shield reversed)...since he has like 0 air game anyways. I'm trying out titanfall style (lol) bumper jumper with rb as my jump. Its going to take alot of practice... I've already died numerous times because my twitch reactions are off.

Just pick Kirby or Dedede and suck him off stage. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
His recovery is so bad you don't even have to follow up with Dedede to kill him.

You have to hit him first... I started with Dedede naturally but the air game felt screwed up because of the c-stick problem. WoP just isn't the same. This why I'm trying out bumper jumper. If I can tune my brain to the new controls...i don't see there being a huge difference between the efficiency of the gc controller setup and the 3ds. Bowser is actually fairly good at the air game..but maybe its just way to early to make judgment calls.

Wow. . . Melee truly is a masterpiece. It is one of the most well designed games that has ever existed. It has an incredibly complex architecture with rich adornment It should be in the Smithsonian's video games section. I'm not joking. There's no way that a game could survive this long without such an inherent and apparent beauty. I do mean beauty, it epitomizes the competitive spirit and expression of style. The Big House 4. Bowser is actually fairly good at the air game..but maybe its just way to early to make judgment calls. His air movement speed is hella slow though On that note, Yoshi is both heavy and has a strong air game with high air speed.

I doubt a game's mechanics are alone enough reason to consider it a masterpiece. I can think of many ways Melee isn't perfect.

While what I said may be a little hyperbolic, I stand by it. It's up there with the greats, such as Brood War, CS 1.6, Street Fighter 3rd Strike. AND MAHVEL BAYBEE.Sure, we could find flaw with them, just as we could find error with Michelangelo's David, or Picasso's Card Player, if we really wanted to.

Here's to hoping you can (eventually?) switch character vocals, ala Street Fighter 4. Stuff like English Lucina just doesn't sit right with me. :<
In the meantime, I should probably get Brawl if only to reacquaint myself with modern Smash and because Snake/Subspace Emissary. Can Project M work on the Wii U? Looks beyond promising, too. :3

More to the "Hey, Den" nature of this site, the Smash 4 Back Room has been busy. smashboards.com/threads/smash-4-weight-rankings.367479/smashboards.com/threads/all-character-landing-lag-frame-data.371503/Edit: here's a less annoying English version: docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uwEvYc82aUOUJ22_NE_oK3LlmUglglrwN0_A_aiTKlM/edit#gid=0Also, it seems that airdodges have start up lag (little, as Aerodome says, 4 frames or so) smashboards.com/threads/smash-4-running-walking-speed-rankings.371564/Also, there's an equipment which reduces all landing lag. EDIT FOR UrbaneVirtuosoHere's to hoping you can (eventually?) switch character vocals, ala Street Fighter 4. Stuff like English Lucina just doesn't sit right with me. :<

Fem WFT's voice gives me super aids, but I don't mind the others.
And gaddam yeah Yoshi is insane. His second jump is Juggernaut status.
Digging Seamus O'Ran a lot so far, the Stormtrooper alt really butters my biscuit. Cap is great too, his moves are so satisfying, they must have changed them in terms of animation and sound assets.

"Let's firm up those abs." "This exercise will strengthen your thighs." "Tighten those glutes." hue I'm fine with that, it's just this one noise she makes when you hit her really hard when she's at highish percent that drives me up the Foxtroting wall. Every time I hear it I go "WTF was that?" Also I think it's kinda weird that they used Mac's Japanese voice instead of localizing an American one. My dreams of him talking like the Scout have been thoroughly crushed.
