Anyone ever thought of quitting gaming?
I ask this because it wasn't until I became involved in more non-gaming activities that I realized I spend a lot of time on video games, time that I'm beginning to wonder if it could be better spent elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, I love playing games and getting all geeky about the stats (not as bad as Probaddie though), but is it really all worth it? There are more constructive ways to unwind and video games aren't even always relaxing.
I don't know, maybe it's just time to take a break, a hiatus from all of this. So again: Have you ever considered quitting gaming?

If you can invent a way for me to hear more kids cry per unit of time that doesn't end in a prison sentence, I'm all ears. Until then, leave me to my Call of Duty.

i think about it every so often...every time a great game idea gets castrated because of consolization, every time some great, unique thing gets call-of-dutyfied...but frankly, i'm too addicted, haha. plus there is still some great games.

42 I would never "quit gaming" all together, but it definitely takes more of a 'back seat' for me during the summer months. Too much gaming makes me ill though. The last double XP weekend I hammered it and felt like shite for the rest of the week.

I like how you pretend that Marvel4 doesn't exist. Not at all. It's just a rule that you're not allowed to pick on Marvel4 because he's so "nice". You on the other hand...

I only started turning nasty when you started talking trash on the IRC about how you'd wipe the floor with me in CoD4 1v1. (Remember how that turned turned out? )

I rarely get that feeling, but when I do it's because it's a holiday or a weekend and I just gorged myself way past my self-set 90-minute quota.

Oh yes, plenty of times. This Lent I'm only allowing myself two hours total of combined electronics time not including school work and writing.
I start to get this feeling that when I have tons of different games and play all the time. This feeling that I'm not enjoying each game to its fullest extent, that I'm not relaxing enough, so now I'll force my attention elsewhere, and I guarantee I'll have a new found appreciation for only playing Total Annihilation for a few days in a row, getting less bored of it than I normally would, then transferring over to Fire Emblem, then over to CoD/Halo whatever.
There are many legitimate pleasures on this earth, video games being one of them, but like everything else it should be taken in moderation, the appropriate level of moderation is individual, and you must find it yourself. Heck, some people don't need any moderation for it to not be dangerous to them.
If you can set that limit for yourself and not gorge yourself and burn yourself out, video games become a delicious pastime you'll never quit and never get exhausted over, and if you think it's time to finally quit for one reason or another it's that much easier to ease away and sacrifice your gaming time for whatever else you need to be done.

Preschool Daycare. Enjoy your life. In COD you can beat them up (further) for it.

Preschool Daycare. Enjoy your life. In COD you can beat them up (further) for it. In Bioshock you can harvest them and they'll disappear forever while you gain superpowers.

It just comes down to how you organize your leisure for leisure's sake versus productive leisure time—as usual, a healthy balance would seem to engender the most favorable results.
The cultivation of power in the personal arena begins with self-discipline. (Speaking personally, this has and continues to be my greatest challenge.)

I've thought about it many times. I do find myself playing less and less in general, as the quality of games (especially shooters) has dropped (IMO) steadily over the past 4 to 6 years. 2007 - 2009 was the pinnacle. I'd like that to change though.

I doubt I'll ever "quit" gaming. I will however, have less and less drive to do so. I know that lately, I've been doing more IRL stuff, and I have literally no desire to play anything at all.
For context, I went on a retreat this weekend with a bunch of kids from school, and it was by far the best weekend of my life. No technology at all, and it was amazing. I'd do anything to go back.
