During recent times, the eSports side of Call of Duty has undergone quite a significant shift, with an emphasis on the growth of competitive Call of Duty from a business perspective. With the MLG Winter Championship numbers soaring, interest from external companies has peaked; as organisations such as Sony and Dr. Pepper begin to take an interest into the developing eSport.
Another organisation that has fully embraced this change is Fariko... At this current time, they field three of the strongest teams in COD eSports, with their North American outfit, namely Fariko.Impact, winning the late MLG Winter Championship and their Dragons/Allstars teams coming off the back of a successful event at the European Championship.
It's therefore only fitting that we sit down with the guy behind all of their success, Alexander "Brainiac" Korf.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESN: Hello, would you like to introduce yourself to those who may not already know you?
Brainiac: "My name is Alexander Korf and I am a 40-year-old consultant at Fariko Consultancy. We help businesses and organisations to improve their performance, by focussing on individual improvement and team building. Fariko Gaming is like a business card for us."
ESN: What does it feel like to have three teams going to the World Championship, in April?
Brainiac: "I really couldn’t be more content than I am right now. We have worked with eSports teams for 6 years now and all the experience and hard work is finally coming together, as we’re the largest and arguably best organisation in COD eSports at this current time."
ESN: Who do you think looks the strongest out of your three squads going to the World Championship?
Brainiac: "Formally Dragons are the best team, but by winning MLG Dallas as their first LAN together, makes Impact stand-out in my humble opinion. So in order, this would be: Impact, Dragons then Allstars."
ESN: So the current MLG Champions have your vote. How do you think they’re looking, heading into EGL9?
Brainiac: "They look strong and still haven’t reached their ceiling of performance; especially Parasite and MiRx, who I expect to improve even more with the already sublime support from Karma and KiLLa."
ESN: Do you predict an all-Fariko final at EGL9?
Brainiac: "I do expect Impact to get to the finals, but I think it will be a close call between Dragons and Team Prophecy. Right behind them I see TCM-Gaming and Allstars trailing closely. So, it will be an interesting match-up."
ESN: Going back 6 months, did you predict that Fariko would be in the situation they’re in right now?
Brainiac: "Not at all… But we did prepare to be able to seize the opportunity when it would arise. It has all come with COD World Championship and the current teams we have in our organisation."
ESN: It’s great to see the progress you’ve made, in such a short space of time. Any last words before we see your teams at the upcoming events?
Brainiac: "After sitting down with David Vonderhaar, I have truly realised that COD eSports is something that is fully embraced by Treyarch and its publisher Activision. Without them we would not be where we are today. Therefore, I’d like to give my sincerest respect to them, for enabling it all."
What is your opinion on Fariko Gaming and their recent success? Do you see Fariko being the dominant organisation of Call of Duty eSports in the near future? Be sure to let us know on Twitter, @esportsnation.
