I imagine the concept of having no physical components in a card game makes its competitive scene more accessible and more interesting. The reason paper decks in MTG are so costly is because certain cards that do a certain function and outclass other cards in most situations are worth more. This becomes particularly problematic with rares and mythic rares; of which can be worth $10-$50 per card. WotC are fully aware of this and peddle most rare cards to either outclass more common cards and/or outright end the game if they're not dealt with. The game's power creep has completely removed the need for anything beyond the occasional 6-drop because you'll probably be dead by then. The concept of a purely electronic card game intrigues me, though the reason I picked up MTG in the first place was to get away from my computer and play with IRL friends.
This is generally why I only buy bulk commons/uncommons and play around in peasant from time to time. If I bought the most recent MTG expansion (Khans of Tarkir) I'd pay $100+ for 85 basic lands and 135 cards from boosters. Because some of those 130 cards are worth $5+ on the market I could potentially sell said cards and get about half my money back. $50 for 85 lands and 100 cards is an awful deal. However, if I shopped for $100 in commons/uncommons I could easily get something like 2400 cards including lands to make up to... 32 peasant decks that are roughly as powerful as one another. Anything beyond 2000 cards and your collection is big enough to last you for years before you get bored of it. Point in case analog gaming is often poor value because of third-party markets.

Got my first 12 win run. Faced only mages, a druid that got stuffed by reaver+blessing of kings, and other paladins. My only loss was to a paladin with ALL the shielded minibots followed by lots of sword of justice plays. I almost got back into the game by engineering a perfect consecrate but this deck has barely any good comeback mechanics. Fel Reaver single handedly won me 3 games by winning before turn 7. It almost lost me a game vs a mage that wouldn't stop drawing frost nova. All in all I'm pretty happy with finally getting there. Here are some pics.

Well, I might end up having to play this a little more. I had around 35 bucks worth of free "Amazon Coins" from last year set to expire. Turns out I don't buy apps, and have zero interest in playing games on my phone. But, if you get the Amazon version of Hearthstone you use your coins on in app purchases and thus buy expansions and card packs that will show up on your PC. I grabbed Naxxramas... now I'm on the fence as to whether I want to spend 15 real dollars on the other expansion, or maybe just spend the remaining coins on card packs. Card packs seem like the best bet from a pure money laundering standpoint since the whole goal is to not spend any money on this shit in the first place. But I also feel like the single player stuff is my best bet to get enjoyment out of this game. Decisions, decisions.

Generally people say to get the first wing of Blackrock Mountain because that gets you Emperor and Grim Patron.

It seems like you can buy it per wing with gold, but not with money, unless I'm missing something.

I was going to say something witty, then I realized I'm pretty toxic in Runescape.
"Dude you dropped the Gatestone in the boss room. At least 6 deaths on the party attributed to us teleporting to you, and dying in a pit of acid. Now we can't teleport out mid-combat, and then die again. Jerk."
"Dankus. Turned off shared XP" "Dankus. Shared XP off." "DANKUS. SHARED XP. OFF." "Oh fer cryin' out loud- someone kick Dankus." "Never mind, go to your ring... click the green 'xp' button... yeah, there you go" "Now, Cletus, shared XP off..."
*Lvl 3 idling in the spawn room, literally leeching our XP.*
"FFS, I could get more XP soloing this dungeon." *Doesn't go solo, instead joins another group because solo dungeoneering isn't as fun*
"Boss down!" *Waits 1 or 2 minutes for the dungeon end because someone's AFK in spawn* *Waits another 30 seconds because someone in the party forgets to re up for the next floor*
"Yeah, I know I'm being mean to you, but I didn't screw up a timed maze puzzle. Now it's full of poison gas and ain't nobody got time for that." "No really, this puzzle is dead simple. They design these for 12-year-olds to finish with ease." "No hablas anglais" "FUUUUUU" "Oh boy a lever room, I wonder what this lever does" *lops ~20% health off of everyone in the room* "Oh, that didn't work, let's try THIS lever-" *Another 20%* "Skinneerrr"
*The weapon you carve randomly explodes, inflicting 426 damage for lethal. LOL* *Ragequits*
I still don't know why I play this game.

Finally had that motivation + time to hit legend. To Rank 2 I ran a really fun homebrew anti-aggro aggro deck. You can do some nutty things with glinda, sure... but the mvp of the deck is ratcatcher. He turns your early game board presence into a midrange threat that does something immediately. A big omission is the one drop demon package that is typically synonymous with zoo. Instead your possessed lackey will only be cheating out lategame threats. A consideration if you want to try something like this list is to cut the mortal coils, a diremole, and a stonehill for x2 twisting nether and x2 spiteful summoner. The deck as is will be better against aggro, but with the changes would make it stronger against spiteful priest/druid... fighting fire with fire. ### zoo # Class: Warlock # Format: Standard # Year of the Raven # # 2x (0) Snowflipper Penguin # 2x (1) Dire Mole # 2x (1) Fire Fly # 2x (1) Kobold Librarian # 2x (1) Mortal Coil # 2x (1) Sanguine Reveler # 1x (2) Prince Keleseth # 2x (3) Ratcatcher # 2x (3) Stonehill Defender # 2x (4) Ravenous Pterrordax # 2x (5) Despicable Dreadlord # 2x (5) Possessed Lackey # 1x (5) Skull of the Man'ari # 1x (6) Glinda Crowskin # 2x (9) Voidlord # 1x (10) Bloodreaver Gul'dan # 2x (10) Sea Giant # AAECAf0GBJfTApziAtvpAr/xAg3TAcQI58ECm8IC68IC4soC980C8tACieICi+UC/OUC6OcC2O4CAA== # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone Here is another take I did on the deck, but I only playtested it a bit before deciding to tryhard my way to legend. It's a big dumb control deck that can outfatigue battle other control warlocks. The key is running x2 mountain giant, rin, and soulthief. Control locks only have voodo+coil to deal with an on curve mountain giant. Rin is standard for control lists. Soulthief is the real spice of the deck since it lets you search your opponent's hand for thier gass cards. Against the deck I got to legend with, if you can copy hadronax, oakheart, or especially naturalize...you pretty much win. Against control warlock, getting another guldan is backbreaking. Against control mage? Same thing. Ratcatcher eating any of the "can't attack" minions is backbreaking for midrange decks. Coining out a spellbreaker...same thing. This deck is what I'll be playing in legend with and tweaking til the end of the season. ### Custom Warlock2 # Class: Warlock # Format: Standard # Year of the Raven # # 2x (1) Dark Pact # 2x (1) Mortal Coil # 2x (2) Ancient Watcher # 2x (2) Defile # 1x (3) Humongous Razorleaf # 2x (3) Ratcatcher # 1x (3) Tar Creeper # 2x (3) Voodoo Doll # 1x (4) Defender of Argus # 2x (4) Hellfire # 2x (4) Lesser Amethyst Spellstone # 2x (4) Spellbreaker # 2x (5) Possessed Lackey # 1x (6) Rin, the First Disciple # 1x (7) Azalina Soulthief # 2x (9) Voidlord # 1x (10) Bloodreaver Gul'dan # 2x (12) Mountain Giant # AAECAf0GBvsFysMCxccCl9MC2OcCmu4CDN0E8gW2B+EHxAjnywL40AKI0gL85QLo5wLY7gK38QIA # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone Finally my legend deck. I crafted Hadronax on the first day of witchwood's release. I liked playing big priest/control warlock so I like cheating out big minions. I liked n'zoth even more. This deck does all that. The only piece I was missing was the oakheart... which I crafted yesterday. I was inspired by this reddit threat. I rode this deck with only one loss from rank 2 1 star to rank 1 5 stars. After losing to a final boss twice I switched it up based on a top 100 legend druid deck I was reading about. My post thanking the author is somewhere in that thread if you /really/ want to know my thoughts on the deck. Suffice to say... it can win against everything but it especially crushes aggro decks. The main combo is to 1) spam taunts. 2) play hadronax + naturalize on 10 mana to spam taunts. 3) play witching hour to summon hadronax since it's your only beast and cube it to spam more taunts and threaten spamming even more taunts. 4) Win the game. ### tree magic # Class: Druid # Format: Standard # Year of the Raven # # 2x (1) Lesser Jasper Spellstone # 2x (1) Naturalize # 2x (2) Wild Growth # 2x (2) Wrath # 1x (3) Ferocious Howl # 1x (3) Tar Creeper # 2x (3) Witching Hour # 2x (4) Branching Paths # 2x (4) Ironwood Golem # 2x (4) Oaken Summons # 2x (4) Swipe # 2x (5) Carnivorous Cube # 2x (5) Nourish # 1x (8) Primordial Drake # 1x (8) The Lich King # 1x (9) Dragonhatcher # 1x (9) Hadronox # 1x (9) Master Oakheart # 1x (9) Sleepy Dragon # AAECAZICCMrDAsnHAsLOAq/TAubTAvHqAt3rAr/yAgtAX+kBxAbkCJTSApjSAp7SAovhAoTmAo3wAgA= # # To use this deck, copy it to your clipboard and create a new deck in Hearthstone
