XIM? this old hardware-hack on consoles?
I suppose: I'd ban for this in any cod:mp if at M$, but maybe I am wrong and XIM does not what I think it does ...
Singleplayer: no problem.

Not a hardware hack at all. Just allows keyboard and mouse use on the console. I consider it legitimate 3rd party hardware.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. For one point, it's pretty cool and better for people who are uncomfortable using a controller. But for things like First-Person Shooters, it's gonna be pretty damn unfair.

Anyone who's played CoD in the last few years have faced players using this device. Party's over on the X1. CoD has so little skill in engagements that it doesn't matter, because high dexterity in movement doesn't matter that much.

All this does is give people more options for controls really. Mouse to analogue movement translation is garbage.

I'm not exaggerating either, it is flawless. It's still just using a control stick with a mouse. It's no where near as good as native mouse support. That and I hope they fixed their firmware. XIM Edge was the biggest waste of money to get a device that would freeze randomly, with the developer refusing to do anything to fix it.

The only limitation is being unable to move the mouse faster than the max speeds turn speeds in game. If you have a high DPI mouse and have the turn speed in game maxed out, you'll be fine. As far as the edge freezing, sorry you had a bad time. I'd have recommended updating the firmware. Haven't had mine freeze once. Currently I use Xim Edge with a G9x Mouse @ half the max DPI with in game speeds at max. I use a belkin easy transfer cable to grab the keyboard and mouse commands from the PC. This allows the mouse acceleration tweaks from the software. edit: I cannot remember any difference between my current setup and when I used to game exclusively on PC. That's how good it is.

Aphoristic is on crack, XIM is an amazing device. If you are a super high sensitivity guy doing constant 180s, it's not perfect due to the aforementioned max turn speed limitations. Then again 180 snap shots don't work for me on PC either, since I end up managing to click outside of the game on one of my secondary monitors thus minimizing it. It's going to be glorious to play Titanfall when I finally get this thing. As to whether it's cheating, kind of, I guess. But, console peasants get what they get with their inferior control scheme.

I was going to get a SCUF controller for my XB1. Should I hold off and get a XIM?

iw5000, Are you a mouse/keyboard gamer? Does your gaming setup make sense with a mouse and keyboard? I don't know if I'd recommend it for big TV + couch gaming, though people do have little portable desk things to place their gear on. When I XIM I do it on a very similar setup to what I use for my computer. A 23" gaming monitor, computer chair, and desk. If you're not a bit of a PC FPS gamer in the first place, it's probably a decent learning curve to get back up to your controller skill level. But, if your goal is to maximize your performance in COD and the like, I can't imagine anything but XIM being the answer.

I used to PC game quite a bit (Unreal, Quake, then the Total War series, etc..) but no longer do it. I just grew frustrated with PC's in general. I guess I am a 'BigTV & Couch' guy now. At least I suppose I am. This is my man cave set up below, on my 2nd floor. I sit around 6 to 8' back (but that varies with my new TV, sometimes further now have a 60" TV I use) This is where most all my devices are set up, and I almost always play my CoD here. I guess that qualifies me as that type of player. I also have a 2nd floor office, where I have my video-editing stuff set up, my mac, etc...plus some monitors. But I have never really tried to run my xbox 360 on that stuff. The monitor sits at a desk. I suppose that would give better performance? Smaller screen, sitting closer, etc... I don't know how much. It seems marginal. I have never really experimented with it. Anyways, here's the pic. I have no clue if this setup would work with mouse and keyboard?

The issue is having the mouse and keyboard on a flat surface at a comfortable level... The foot stool/ottoman thing is too low. The hunching posture gets really old really fast. I personally couldn't find a comfortable setup for myself while sitting on my couch. The big TV isn't actually a big issue, it just doesn't fit naturally with a computer desk setup. When I went home for Christmas a couple years ago, on account of it being ridiculously cold (northern Minnesota) I brought my XIM and Black Ops 2 and played on a 60" screen. The thing is I had sort of a mini computer desk that I could position in front of the TV. It's not something I'd do full time though, definitely ruins the decor and it doesn't really look like you could make it work since you have most of the floor space already covered with furniture. So one thing you can do with XIM is you can use a PS Move Nav instead of a keyboard. That frees up a lot of space, and gives you that analog precision for movement which is probably nice. And that leaves you with just needing a platform to rest your mouse on. I forget if you can do the Move wirelessly to the XIM, if you can, then pair it with a wireless mouse and it could work without adding any clutter. Here's a link to the XIM setups thread: xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=31708.0Actually there's not a whole lot going on in that thread, you can see a couple of MacGyvered solutions and a whole bunch of computer desks. I know I've seen some pretty good couch setups before. Let me see if I can find them and I'll get back to you.

Thanks. That's some really good info.
I'm not getting any younger and my best gaming days are probably behind me. it's becoming more and more important that I found ways to stay competitive with the 14 to 18 year old crowd. The XIM might be a great idea...but like you said, the hunching posture sucks. I don't like back pain.
I'll check out the links. Thanks.

xim4.com/community/index.php?topic=32196.45There's a guy who went do-it-yourself on a lap desk, along with some cable management and stuff to keep everything in place. The cable management is beyond me when I tried to set up my XIM in my living room. That's part of the reason I just do XIM on my desk. That and it makes it easier to dick around playing games as a break since it's right next to my work computer. For reference here was my setup before next-gen systems hit... and also the one day out of the year where my desk was sort of clean:

Gaming set up.... right next to your work desk? Good lord. That shouldn't be allowed. I have twenty employees in our building, no chance of anyone EVER bringing in their consoles, and then being allowed to hook up their consoles next to their work stuff lol!!! NEVER!!!!

Fair enough, but it's my home office, I telecommute, so the boss just has to deal with it

Ordered mine, but won't be home for 2 weeks. Can't wait to try this out on Titanfall and BF4. Heck, it might even tempt me to boot up Ghosts again. Free For All on Xbox 360 was at least sort of fun with that controller-stomping advantage. This really did come at the worst time though, visiting the family now, then right when I get back I'll have house guests who are not necessarily interested to video game controllers nor their effects on my ability to succeed at them.
Not to mention Titanfall maps will hit well before I'm back. At least I can sort of play on my laptop. If I crank it down to 720p, and most of the settings on low.

Sure, but like I said, it will be a while before I get to try it out. It'll probably end up in more or less the same position as my trusty old XIM3. If you look at my desk, it's under the screen with the copy of Black Ops 2 running. Then I have one of these plugged in since you really don't need a full keyboard for console games. At some point I'd consider moving it to a living room-style setup, but I'd need to get a new TV first. When I play multiplayer on my 720p TV from 2005 with 40ms of input lag, I get wrecked. I guess now that both Xbox One and PS4 have decent recording options, maybe I'll upload some before and after gameplays.

Makes me scratch my heat at times....wondering how much better I would do, if I didn't have TV input lag, did the monitor thing, as well as the controller issues (not having an XIM).
