Blizzard just announced Overwatch, a new FPS franchise. They used a lot of stuff from the cancelled Project Titan. With Activision already having Call of Duty and Destiny, will this be a F2P title? Also, it seems odd that they did not announce what platforms it will be on. I wonder if this will be released on not just consoles/pc but on mobile as well, similar to the newest Skylanders game.

"Like Battleborn, TF2, Skyrim, Unreal Tournament, Age of Wushu, and Call of Duty, but with guns!" Hey. . . But, it does look like this is a game chocked full of just pure content. Each class has mechanics, each class can get new mechanics, more classes with mechanic sets. Just neat in that it looks like novelty out the ears. And the clearest similarity is probably the first two I listed. Like, in most other games you don't see twenty different functional iterations of common attack method. In this it seems there's all sorts, good old fashioned ones, globular ones, giant moving spheres, effect causing ones, AoE of various shapes, shields of various shapes, melee of various types (like the sweeping blows of that Reinhardt baller) or maybe simple slashes of Reaper/Scout analogue. Two types of engineers with their own uses and split functionality. I dunno, it just looks fun. Of course, it looks kinda slow, actually it looks a lot like TF2 in terms of gunplay pace, but there seems to be actual machine guns which maintain distance accuracy and stuff, so maybe a slight increase? Sticky grenades, time warping (albeit for one character), streams of damage instead of more discreet damage intervals, transformation modes, tethers, jump jets, gliding. Just. . . Huh. I might actually be interested in this. Reaper looks a bit boring, though. Shotgun stealth and an ultimate. Horray. Charge globs, charge-ups of other sorts I imagine. Multiple forms of intelligence gathering (primary seems to be see-through outlines, welcome but cheesy IMO, and done a lot recently). It kinda seems that attachments and customization isn't much of a thing, but I think that's a good thing. Everything will be viscerally distinct in a way, and have real 'flavor'. Like TF2, again. But this seems like they have a lot of resources to develop expensive assets to give it that flair and style. But I think I saw a customization for that valkyrie girl, a machine gun vs a rocket launcher primary weapon.
According to the gameplay trailer, this lives up to the "Highly Stylized" portion of the video description.
Edit: I'm the most interested in playing Bastion. He seems like a great all-rounder with a defensive bent and a rad turret mode. Winston is similar, but seems kinda like Pyro/demoknight with deployables.
Edit: The less important cinematic trailer:
Winston is Beast from X-Men. I also love the music. It's one part modern wub wub inception dubstep, the other part fanfare (like the Superman vid I posted earlier) and another part big-band like TF2 (I'm not sure about that last, there was a distinctly playful section during the fighting, like when the British jumping lady first fights Widowmaker) personal flare. It was just a cinematic flare for Tracer, and it fits nicely with her character. It was just one chord at her introduction. Since it's so 'stylized', I wouldn't be surprised if they all had their own theme songs and stuff. Edit: They couldn't resist making all the grills hot, could they? It seems like Reaper has a grenade launcher too. Smoke maybe as well? Widowmaker has an automatic mode to her weapon. Winston's lightning-pyro weapon wasn't shown at all in the cinematic trailer. I doubt that Striker Tracer can actually steal people's weapons and use them.
Just go to the official webpage linked by TheHawkNY, all of the heroes have their own gameplay trailers unlisted on YT, you can get them through there. Edit: nevermind, Reaper looks cool. He has a timed teleport spell and a Bonk (Scout invincibility drink) like power. I would like to play Pharah too, she's like the Soldier, and a mercenary from a PMC who talks about protecting the innocent and justice and stuff. No machine gun, but has a concussion blast.

STAR_ (a.k.a. Niichts) is one of the largest TF2 channels on YouTube, and he had a pretty good point in his video regarding Overwatch and how its design compares to TF2. (Forgive the click-baity title) For the first two minutes he's just talking about how many elements of TF2 can be found in Overwatch, but after that he takes note of what Overwatch can offer mechanically. With more emphasis on unlocking characters over weapons the game will be easier to balance and characters have more defined roles. Deadringer spies, Gunslinger Engis, and Demoknights are examples of how much influence an itemset can deviate from a class' stock loadout.

That cinematic trailer made me want to watch an actual movie of this game's world instead of playing the actual game. The game-play itself looked... meh.

Assuming anyone besides Reaper gets a shotgun, anyways. Are those shotguns? They could be large-calibur pistols.

if its anything like tf2 (and it is) then they wont I'm still salty about the random spread-within-a-spread shotgun nerf from several years ago when I still played the game.

There are very few stock weapons that have been changed whatsoever. It was waaaaaaaaaaaay back. It was applied in the same patch that changed the standard semiauto pistol into full-auto.

Overwatch doesn't have an FoV slider " ...to avoid creating a situation of "Haves and Have-Nots," where those who are aware of the slider are able to gain an advantage over those who aren't." Blizzard's PR hit error 37.

In TF2 the ability for medics to see who's injured, seeing damage/heal values, not holding M1 to heal targets (If I lived for 3 ubers my finger got cramped), and having hit sounds are a pretty big deal in TF2. Assuming most players don't even touch their options I can assume I have a significant advantage over most pub players, but that's not the point. My question is why these features aren't default in the first place since they're SO USEFUL!
Still, I don't know what percentage of players are turned off by games without FoV sliders; though I imagine it wouldn't hurt to have more features on the table. I get that it's Blizzard's first FPS, which means the likelihood of them fixing this is fairly high. This is mostly because I imagine TB would be PISSED if he couldn't play "Blizzard's first IP in 17 years" because of something as small as an FoV slider. Dude's built his livelihood over Blizzard's games.
Now that you mention it I have no idea if console commands will be a thing in Overwatch; have they ever been a thing in Blizzard titles?

Maybe the FoV is 120 by default.

at the very least i think helping people with motion sickness has more value than the people with no idea what settings are to be at a disadvantage I suppose being motion sick would put a player at a greater disadvantage over not seeing damage values. Still, it would be nice if TF2's devs changed around several default settings that objectively make the game better for everyone. I don't think anyone's going to object to everyone being able to see their damage. Come to think of it I wonder how many gamers abandoned first-person titles altogether because of motion sickness. To the average person it's not intuitive that this condition can be mitigated by tweaking certain things here and there.

If you want to see Overwatch Pre-Alpha gameplay they have most of the classes in action over on their official channel. You can get a feel for how much they used the same voice actor so often how noticeably repetitive and cheesy the battle chatter can get how each class works if someone decent was behind the wheel. I like how a lot of these classes have weapons and abilities that synchronize really well, and that alone makes me think his game's going be pretty interesting to boot. Because of that I also believe Overwatch is going to have relatively wild imbalances. It may not be as bad as the MP40 because this is Blizzard.

Reinhardt definitely looked boring; for a lot of the match he just sat there with a projectile shield while occasionally throwing back a fireball here and there. His ultimate is a giant floor slam but I have a feeling that's either going to annoy everyone or be useless against good players. Winston, on the other hand, looks much more fun and consistent. It's hard to argue with a gorilla that jumps like a flea.
It's a bit odd how large the gun models are and how tiny the health/ammo values read. Maybe they'll allow for an option to change size/positioning of stuff like that in the options menu, and that's probably the best we can hope for.
I'm assuming we're picking favourites based on flavour. Bastion has to be my favourite in that regard. I just like the sound of his minigun. I know the M134 didn't exist during TF2's time period, but for someone firing 2400 RPM it just doesn't sound like it's firing 2400 RPM. That is, unless it's a REALLY custom cartridge.
I like Hanzo; mostly because he looks like Sarkhan Vol and is a smoother-looking "Khan-flavoured-heavily-invested-in-dragons" guy. All credit to Sarkhan since he's supposed to be batshit insane, but still. I'm sorry, Sarkhan, you gotta smile every now and again. You look like you ate a pizza pocket fresh out of the microwave all the time. Relax; it's okay to mourn the loss of your dragons. Besides, the dragons are back in Tarkir now. Ugin ain't dead no more. Have a party or something. Yeesh.
Where was I? Oh yeah! Tracer. She's having fun; I like that. I'm not entirely sure how she'll fare on the battlefield when the actual game comes out, but flavour-wise I think she's the most outstanding.Same goes for McCree. He's a gentleman with a revolver. He fits in well with the rest of the cast. Flavour-wise he's a breath of fresh air... or really old air from the west, I guess.
Pharah, Symmetra, Reinhardt, and Mercy are all boring to me since they all have Gideon Jura syndrome. They're all doing good... for the sake of doing good, and that's all their character is. It's not necessarily the worst thing, but I guess they're just there as a foil to the more extreme characters.
I honestly have no clue which characters are going to be top-tier. I'd imagine Symmetra would be ideal since some maps require a teleporter for the attacking team to get to the front faster. The spawns don't move up when you cap the first point. The extra armour is nice, too. Zenyatta might trump Mercy in the sense that he can heal people and offer some firepower to the team. I know resurrecting people can be a big deal along with having the healy-ness come to you, so I'm not entirely sure how that'll pan out. Hanzo and Pharah seem like staple slayers; Pharah's ultimate can completely wreck the front line. At least that's the impression I'm getting so far.

Introducing Soldier 76.
His gameplay loop looks like a bog standard amalgamation of various mechanics in other various FPSes. He has a standard Assault Rifle, a standard grenade launcher ability, a standard healing aura, and an aimbot ultimate that lets him wreck people at medium range. In fact that's the point of his character's niche; wrecking people at medium range. I think he's perfectly fine flavor-wise; he might even be fairly popular for being so modular in his role.

I imagine we'd first have to know which characters would be banned or in the meta should Overwatch become an eSport. I doubt anybody's going to take kindly to McCree or Soldier 76's aimbot ults, among other things. Comp TF2 had to keep to a one medic/heavy/engi rule. Otherwise both teams would go for that and things would get stalematey.
The idea of ults isn't that bad; it gives a more substantive reward for being active as possible over imaginary scoreboard points. It might even make pubs tolerable, which could give it a huge edge over TF2.

Yeah particularly mccree and soldierguy are nearly identical. Reaper seemingly is more of an aoe (presumingly doesnt hit targets outside of a pretty close circle) so it has different impications on when its best used
I dont see widowmakers ult being that much of an issue tbh. Seems like maps are lineair with some small adjecent sidepaths like tf2 so generally youll know where most enemies are anyway this aint cs, information isnt that paramount
think a bigger issue might be how strong her rifle is, cause that might completely destroy balance if you put a competent player on that. unless they stole tf2s charging mechanic. did they?

Haven't gotten a key yet. Probably for the best since this game is gonna be riddled with dropped games and lag for a while.
