Good News! There's controller support with aim assist so I won't scrub so hard with the mice! Podcast I listen to (Overwatchers) thinks that means there's a chance at Overwatch being developed for consoles. Woah, woah. Slow down, turbo. There's a queue. And for playing Tracer.

I personally hope we get a trailer of the upcoming Warcraft movie; it's definitely in the cards at this point. I'm curious to see how that unfolds. Are they going to play out a grimdark storyline, or change into something more PG? Nobody knows.
I know it's the ultralisk in the room, Legacy of the Void will probably hog the spotlight. A showmatch of THAT has to happen. Since the beta many units cycled out; I've completely lost track of what's going in and what's changed.
From what I've heard the likelihood of an Overwatch showmatch is very unlikely, let alone showmatches in general. I hope I'm wrong. There's already a primitive meta forming in the maps and characters, and some people have gone as far to cast pseudo-competitive scrims. I say pseudo for a lot of reasons, namely the fact that playing a single round of an asymmetrical game type isn't remotely fair. A/D in particular isn't fair because your odds of taking the second capture point go down dramatically as time goes on. There's no defensive spawn disadvantage, and multiple defensive classes can stack for an impenetrable defense.

Wonder what their approach to balance is between pc and console. Also hope this doesn't affect patch cycles for "parity" like some devs have stived for in the past (blegh) otherwise cool for u console folks i guess

Patch 2.3.0 for the game was released for all three platforms simultaneously.

That's true, but in any given firefight Mercy's combat effectiveness roughly equivocates a fleeing Halo Grunt. Not that Mercy should be fighting anyone.
Zenyatta's the other 150-HP character, but since his attacks and abilities are based on him having a lot of range he'll seldom engage people face-to-face.

$60 eh? That won't do any favors for playerbase size, plus they'll have plenty of freemium BS but at least the skins look really good. Probably won't get this on launch.

Better, but only the most dedicated Blizzdrones will buy this until it goes F2P. Everyone assumed it was gonna be free so good foxtrotting luck getting anyone to pay for it. Such a shame.

i was super surprised that everyone flipped about the price point because pretty much everyone i know who was interested expected it to just be buy to play. i def gotta say the subreddits leaving a horrible taste in my mouse after blizzcon. reminds me of one of the reasons i stopped playing starcraft. Buy to play > free to play anyway unless you're the 1 game in every few hundred that makes things completely free aka Dota2/PoE. $40 for, what, 21 heroes they said? And probably 8-12 base maps or something seems like a pretty solid deal to me. I'd rather pay up front and have access to all the content than be nickel and dimed because unlocking things in f2p always take a ton of playtime.

The lack of a killfeed and scoreboard is asinine. How am I supposed to know when my tank/support/whatever dies if I didn't see them? How am I supposed to know how good our team is doing vs theirs?

I agree. TF2's point system handled this well. It may have been somewhat arbitrary in places, but it incentivized everyone to get active and do their job. It was easy to tell who was pulling the team and who was borderline afk. For medics in particular the scoreboard has proven invaluable for gauging when to wait at spawn and when to move to the front, and this will be the case for support characters in Overwatch. TF2's method of handling the killfeed was also stellar. If you did something, it stayed up on your screen a little longer than everything else. It made people feel great, and provided intel that shouldn't have to be carried over via voicechat.
The only major flaw with TF2's scoring system was how the game doesn't reset score after every round. While it was often commonplace to have the best players at the top of the scoreboard, simply playing for a long time allowed people to get to the top, regardless of how long it took. SPM should be emphasized more.

It's interesting how the Tank/Offense/Defense/Support roles pan out. The systems works, and DnD's roleplaying system can compare. Class roles and how they impact the group are divided into similar categories.
Overwatch uses Tank, but DnD 4e uses Defender. Generally these classes have high defenses and a very limited means of dealing damage. Roadhog's shotgun can wreck people in close quarters, and Thungard's Heavy Flail can annihilate any doorway, but they can only do enough damage if they can get close enough to the action. Likewise their high defenses, renewable sources of damage deflection, and general ability to focus attention on them prevents the squishier classes from taking too much fire.
Offensive Classes and Strikers are also very similar. DnD strikers are great at singling out lone targets and picking them out. Rogues generally aide the fighter or cleric in backstabbing one target quickly, and rangers/warlocks tend to have abilities that let them pick a target and deal damage to it until they're down. Strikers accelerate the action and make the opponent wary in splitting up, while also having outstanding mobility of their own.
If Controller classes in DnD were replicated into the Defensive classes in Overwatch, people would rage hard. The Shortstop and Mei's primary weapon are effects a Controller would use to hinder players. A plague wizard would ensure that every opponent on the field is not having fun. Most others role have ways to control the field, but the Controller always has the strongest abilities. They might force the opponent to deal half damage, or take double damage. They might not be able to move or react to enemies properly from nullified senses. They might not be able to attack at all, or go insane. A lot of these elements fail to translate to FPS very well, where the game remains fun for everyone if everyone has full control of their character at all times. The good news is that there's a simple alternative, and it's that Controllers have another role. They have ranged superiority, Area of Effect superiority, or Damage-Over-Time superiority. They're great at flinging damage everywhere hap-hazardly, often before the enemy can fire back. Likewise, Defensive classes in Overwatch do something similar, whereby being able to punish careless players by doling out loads of damage in a short period of time. It forces people to slow down and think when the game calls for it.
Support classes in Overwatch are not unlike the Leader role in DnD. A cleric is essentially a weaker fighter or a weaker warlock with strong heals. Their armor is weaker, their weapons are simpler, and their spells limited in dealing damage- but everything they did handed out healing or buffs in some way. Likewise, Support characters are somewhat spongy and have less-than-ideal weapons. Mercy, Lucio, and Symmetra's primary weapon are limited in their projectile velocity because their focus is to heal and buff. Mimicking a ranged attack with low velocity in DnD is impossible, but clerics have limited range in all of their spells, never reaching beyond 15 squares.
I should also mention that classes don't have to adhere to a single role, but can often end up being a mix of two roles. Zenyatta is clearly a Support character, but because all of his attacks are ranged he has a bit of Defensiveness in him. For that it's possible to neglect certain roles and fill them with characters in other roles to close that gap. This is probably also a good compass to tell what kind of classes Blizzard will add in the future.
On a final note, the "Offensive" and "Defensive" can be somewhat of a misnomer. Classes like Junkrat, Bastion, and Widowmaker can easily support an offensive with full combat effectiveness, whereas Tracer, Pharah, and Reaper aren't really at a loss if they help hold the line. Potentially Offensive and Defensive could be replaced with more accurate terms like Flank and Siege, or Harrier and Control. These terms are less ambiguous and help highlight that certain classes are better off when they move around more/less.

No idea; I can't find a reliable source ATM. All I got was Black Ops 2 confirmed for 20.
Also damage spread is a thing.

For a game in beta there's an awful lot of eSports going down. There's even a loose meta starting to form.
For support players a Lucio/Mercy combo is often ideal on a team of 6. Being able to resurrect a large chunk of a team during a heated midfight makes a huge difference. On top of that Lucio offers AoE heals, haste, and decent damage to keep everyone alive during a team fight. Zenyatta occasionally sees use in maps that are heavily corridor-like to take advantage of his ranged capabilities, and Symmetra is rarely situational on offense when the spawn locations aren't generous.
Tanks are also pretty straightforward; Reinhardt is easily the most used. If your team can fire out of your shield while everyone else can't it gives you a huge edge in team fights around corners; so much that the team often ends up mirroring a Reinhardt with their own Reinhardt. D Va also sees plenty of use, but mostly because she's a beefy character that can deal consistent damage and deflect it. Also she can fly. A flying tank. Zarya occasionally sees play to amp up survivability, Winston lacks killing power but can sometimes support a strong offense, and Roadhog is largely unused because can't really handle himself against multiple enemies.
On Offense Pharah and McCree are the most versatile. Pharah can constantly take the high ground and synergize with Mercy, and her ultimate can melt any defense. Meanwhile McCree is good at all ranges, and even without his stun ability he'd still be a strong character. Sometimes a Reaper gets pulled in to harry the flank if there's enough room to trot, but besides that maybe Soldier 76 can be useful for his consistency.
Defensive classes aren't really a thing in competitive Overwatch. Widowmaker occasionally sees play, but because of Reinhardt it's easy to prevent her from doing anything.
As far as I understand measures are going to be put in place to ensure Mercy's ultimate is a little more restricted. Engagements in this game often land in team fights, and when there are team fights there's going to be a lot of people dying in quick succession. As a result it's a lot more likely for Mercy to resurrects 3-5 people at once, and having to kill an entire team over again is really tough to answer. Blizzard's definitely going to tweak her ultimate eventually, and it's tough to tell how at the moment.
On top of that Reinhardt is probably too good at shutting down team fights. In a tightly-knit group it's hard to flank Reinhardt. Even if someone does manage to get through 500 health is a lot to burn through. Alternatively, brute-forcing his shield is difficult. In theory Bastion could hard-counter that, but that means you have to play Bastion. Even then if a team focuses his shield down Reinhardt can fall back and wait a bit. The only other strong answer to Reinhardt is Pharah, and she's already a good character.
It's probably been said a lot at this point, but Bastion and Torbjorn could make use of a overhaul. Much like the vanilla engi of TF2 the relatively low skill gap of these characters make them good against bad players and bad against good players. TF2's answer was ingenious in adding stuff like the Rescue Ranger, Gunslinger, Short Circuit, and Wrangler, and hopefully Blizzard goes for something like that.
Overall this game is shaping up really well. Mercy's ultimate is probably the worst of it- if you can even call it a problem. It's incentivized teams to move as a unit and take more risky fights when her ult is up.

Been hearing a lot of good things about this game. I know I initially wasn't all that intrigued by it; mostly because I assumed it would be PC only, but I'd definitely give it a play on the Xbox One. I hope that the game's cinematic trailer somehow leads to cinematic film-based story telling for this game's universe because I know it won't have a single-player campaign to tell its (and in-turn the character's) story/stories.
