For team play, I always play Search. But for solo, I am having a real blast with the new Safeguard mode. If you don't care about your overall K/D, it's a very satisfying feeling to win the game for your team of random scrubs by escorting the robot the whole way alone. I'll have to give that a shot. What's your gamer profile Will? Aren't you on XB1? Mine is 'stonecoldload'

@rainbowcrash: there has been controller support on PC since Black Ops 1.. There has always been controller support but with no auto aim until advanced warfare, however from what I've read the way it worked was not the same as consoles and was shite. I might just be a salty and its not actually good. but I do feel like there is something going on in a handful of gunfights I encounter. Most extremely close range gunfights are awkward and both players spray everywhere trying to track the target that crosses your screen in half a second. But then there are those times where I just get dropped. And I watch the killcam and they have a dead on perfect ads over me in situations you could never do that with using a mouse. Overall mouse is probably still much better but its kinda annoying the playing field is skewed

When I Think about it more, the added randomness to the game by having auto aim controllers vs. Mouse is nothing compared to what specialists have done.

Hopefully they're testing the waters for cross-platform compatibility, with the Windows 10 - Xbox One thingy they keep blabbing on about.

If your NAT type is strict, you will lose every head to head gunfight. I fixed mine to open and it felt like I had an extra second of time in every encounter.

After some matches I have a little "best" flag next to the stat, but there does not appear to be any "personal best" or similar record in the combat record where I can go check these out. Am I missing something?
Combat record actually seems a little light really. Just K/D and accuracy per gun, and separate w/l and k/d for each gametype.
Seems like every combat record has been a step back from BO1... which was awesome. Elite was pretty good but they sort of unceremoniously killed it with fire years ago. You could really take a deep dive into your stats in that game. They even had a heat map for where you usually hit targets and where you usually were in maps. Never again, I suppose.

I think the above is a good thing, and especially with BO3 continuing the trend of showing less stats. But even more so, not letting people see other people's stats via hiding the combat card. It's good because CoD is like a resting place for just about every douchebag loser FPS'er player in the console universe. Or just losers in general. Obviously, CoD popularity brought them here, but even more so, the WAY stats are done in this game, has KEPT these douchebags in this CoD game world. The entire CoD game universe is nothing but a perverse set of incentives, set up to reward idiocy and douchebaggery. Especially so in the ScoreStreak heavy games like Dom. In prior games, the rewards were simple. Want to be 'the man' in CoD? Easy. Use your teammates at meatshields, don't help, play off flags, and work far corner spawns, attacking in & out. Let teammates die on the flag, while you shoot their killers, or work the far spawns. Build killstreaks. Repeat. Go 40-10, get a 4.0 KD, lose the game, and then brag to your friends about how good your Combat Card is, "MY KD IS 2.50!!!" ....and then say your ' bad teammates' cause your low WL ratio (or just say you don't give a fck about winning). Either works. Oh yeah, put it on YouTube, telling everyone how much of a 'beast you are'. Nerd bragging. THAT is CoD in a nutshell. A perverse system that has been in place since day one. It is the CoD way. HOW you play CoD. I think at some point, the developers of AW and Treyarch have slowly started to recognize this. That people aren't playing the game modes anymore, they are mostly just using various game modes as means to PLAY THE KD RATIO. Work that stat. "KD Dom", "KD KC", "KD Demo". We reached a point of 15 game modes, that all mostly played the same way. Use dumb people who play objectives as bait, and work your KD. Then brag. Good job Vanderhaar, in playing down to society's lowest common denominators. I think Developers have slowly developed some testicles to fix this. One way is by eliminating the 'bragging' end of the equation. If you can't see other people's scorecards, they have nothing to brag about. A few people even on my friend's list are upset about this. They want people to see their stats, and no one can. They've commented, "What's the point of playing?" I've heard that a few times from a couple people. That's how perverse the KD ratio has become. Isn't having fun, playing with friends, winning, and knowing your stats are good, enough? You need more? Brag a ratio to the world? What the developers next need to do, is junk the leaderboards post game, how they reward for top score. But more so, make the player's XP bonus more tied to winning. Or at least, make it tied to EFFORT. If you go 40-10 and lose a Dom game, and you only cap 1 flag, ....your leveling up XP should be lower than the last place guy on the winning team. THAT is the next step needed.

I agree with the spirit of what you're saying, i.e. we should not incentivize K/D douchebaggery when it is detrimental to winning... for example tactical loitering a useless position, or failing to accomplish an open objective like cap an unguarded B flag because you are scared of dying, or whatever. But I think they could still give us a private combat record that is robust enough to show us cool things. And if they did make it public, sort it by objective stuff. So your kill confirmed stats are sorted by confirmed/denied, and k/d is not prominent or even not shown when others are inspecting your stats. Dom is sorted by capped flags. Etc. etc. Sadly "chicks dig the longball kill death ratio." (Not really but you get the point.) What we have now is the worst of both worlds. No one can see it, and all I really see is my K/D ratio per game type. Lame. I want to see, for example, what is my record for most flag caps? Most kill confirms? Most bomb defuses? etc. etc. I know the game is tracking it, since you are getting awards for this stuff, so show it to me! Anyway, there are still leaderboards in the Barracks where you can compare friends stats, at about the same level you could compare in MW3. I haven't tried it yet, but if you are in a lobby, I wonder if you could go into leaderboards and sort by the lobby, like you could in prior games. The leaderboard is sort of buried and the lobby timer is so short I just haven't tried it yet.

Has anybody tried "Arena" yet? If yes, impressions?
I am curious about:
1) population levels (i.e.: how long does it take to find a game); 2) competitive feel; 3) ranking "accuracy";

I have not.
But I did try zombies and it is pretty cool. I like the cast, they got the dude from Hellboy and Jeff Goldblum and some others whose names I forget. I also like there is more of a story here. I always thought this was a ripe area for some more storytelling to go along with the creepy horror vibe.

I have been playing 1 mission a day through campaigns, and so far I like it: 1) The psych abilities bring in a "Destiny" feel; 2) The story does not suck. That's good enough for me; 3) Progression system and loadout customizations are cool (not new of course, but it is the first time I play thru a campaign with it); 4) Mini games ("Combat Immersion" "Dead Ops 2 Arcade") are nice to have: 5) "Nightmare" mode sounds great! 6) "Realistic" difficulty is brutal. Not going to play that right now, but like the option of coming back to that sometime for replay value (especially thru co-op);

The leaderboard is sort of buried and the lobby timer is so short I just haven't tried it yet. Can't really disagree with anything you said. I love stats too. All the types you mentioned, would be awesome. But more often than not, when these companies make the leaderboards or combat cards especially, they tend to overemphasize "KD", which leads to the above said problems. "KD" ends up being the only thing relevant. In my opinion, the only solution is what they did. Kill it all. Hide it all. Right now, there are leaderboards in the one section of a player's combat card. But other people can't see the card, and only you can see those leaderboards. I don't think one can filter for an in-game pre lobby. The various leaderboards per game mode are just sortable by date (week, month, career), and by friends and total population. And for the most part, what is given is kind of meaningless, as the sort criteria is fixed on only one stat. For example. Career is sorted by Total Score. That's it. This is kind of junk. It's just a measure of who has played the most. And the SpM stat mixed in there, is meaningless too, as what game type you play, determines how high that figure is. If you play TDM at all, your score per minute will be lower than a friend who plays only Dom. Domination? It's sort feature is fixed on Score Per Minute, which is kind of relevant. Sort of? Even there, that measure is heavily influenced by kills, and not so much by caps. It's still the somewhat flawed system from before.

This is why I have hopes for the Arena mode. If it can get somewhat popular, players will care more about their rankings than K/Ds.
I have been playing Halo 5 and it did things exactly as I hoped:
1) The Arena playlists all have numeric ratings (called CSRs competitive skill ranking) and ranking divisions, ranging from Bronze 1-6 -> Silver 1-6 -> Gold 1-6 -> Platinum 1-6 -> Oryx (CSR number becomes visible starting here)-> Champions (top 200 players). Once you are placed into a divisions, you get to play with peers at your skill level and go up and down solely based on W/L. Nobody really cares about K/Ds at all;
2) For casual play, there is Warzone, a mix of PvE (minions and boss takedowns) and PvP on a 12v12 player large scale. On this side of the house, K/D is slightly more interesting, but not by a lot. Winning the game still gives the most thrill, and second to that is to unlock power weapons/vehicles/powerups to crash the competition. Gaining these are based on team effort, not individual's kill streaks.
The combinations of dedicated servers + long TTK basically made lags a non-issue.
Too bad most of the CoD players can never get used to Halo's TTK. Otherwise it could have been a great alternative especially when you are frustrated by CoD.

Arena seems to be 4 v 4, is that correct? Than that seems like it is the only way to seriously play this game for me. 6 v 6 is too much for nuke town sized maps.

Aim assist is rather inconsistent for myself times when I can track people behind walls and other times does not nothing at all. On shotguns feels like you get none at all for me.

I've noticed this as well. I'm purely guessing, but it might be a connection issue; most of the games where I have aim assist problems are the same ones in which I get insta-melted by the low RPM ARs.

If it is solid, I may not even prestige (at least not until way later when I am bored). My plan now is Solo: play Pub to reach max level, then switch to Arena; With friends: hopefully I have more than enough token to unlock the things I want, and play Pub un-prestiged.

Does anyone miss real guns? You know what you're getting (sort of) when you unlock the AK. Or the M60. Or [insert popular gun here]. Even if the stats change usually there is a running theme with each gun in each game. With fantasy guns you are never really sure. Are we doomed to have futuristic CoD's forever because Activision doesn't want to pay royalties to gun manufacturers?

Lack of any counter to awareness until higher levels is rather annoying. Starting to think that sound whoring perks should be removed from the game or given only to one weapon class aka shotguns. Most good players are running nothing but awareness including myself.

Most good players are running nothing but awareness including myself. Awareness is far and away the best perk. It's a must have. I feel sorry for all the poor folks who see me on killcam just sitting there, waiting for them to pop out around the corner. They should make dead silence available before awareness, probably. $1000 says they nerf awareness at some point. It's about as good as sit rep pro from modern warfare 2/3, except it doesn't deaden the footsteps of teammates as much.

To add the the discussion about leaderboards I personally I think score per minute is a terrible way to sort the leaderboards. To me CoD has always been about the grind, it would be cool if you could sort the leader boards based on each stat. (caps, kills, score, defends, etc.)

To start off, the game has some serious stability issues. If I play for more than an hour I'm guaranteed to get kicked to the title screen at least once. Playing with friends is a never ending process of backing out to pick up the person who was last kicked. Arena is unplayable at this point and I have played only one game with full teams on both sides, out of maybe 10. This is unacceptable for a playlist that is supposed to be handing out competitive ranks. And given the prevalence of this issue I would wager this is something treyarch knew about before the game launched. That could be good news since they might have already been working on a fix, which would mean we will spend less time dealing with this. The bad news would be that they shipped a game they hadn't fully finished, which shouldn't be a surprise to anyone at this point given how often that's been happening lately.
So far it's an alright game from a gameplay perspective. I like the specialists, but I think they change the game's meta quite a bit. Some are better than others (Reaper > Annihilator for example) and will see a lot more use in both pubs and competitive. As far as competitive goes, the game is a clusterfuck, and will be until the rules get figured out and a ban list is in place. Ban/protect is not a successful compromise in this department and never will be. There are not enough available bans to ban everything that needs banning, and until Treyarch stops trying to balance the game for both public matches and competitive a ban list will be necessary. Not to mention that the ban/protect cycle takes an additional 5 minutes to go through when players could just design their classes around an already existing set of rules. This additional time also causes more players to get kicked to the title screen. It's an interesting stopgap measure while the rules are figured out but after that it needs to be removed. The specialist draft is alright, you don't want everyone on a team running War Machine, but it does tend to pit teammates against each other. This is more of a problem in arena, where many teams are made up of random people who might just choose not to play if they don't get the specialist they want.
As for overall balance, a few things stand out. The first is Ghost and Dead Silence being late level unlocks and UAVs and awareness being early unlocks. The only way this makes sense is if Dead Silence cancels out awareness. If it doesn't, it should be made to. Ghost also needs a serious buff. You should be able to stop and reload without showing up on the radar. I haven't heard anyone complain about ghost corner campers since Black Ops 1 which should have been an indication that the perk had been nerfed enough and didn't need any further adjustments. Blast Suppressor should never have been a perk to begin with. It made no sense to include a new movement mechanic and then penalize players for using it. It almost seems like it was included in tier 3 just to balance out some of the other available options in the tier. There are other things I don't like, such as shock charges and sixth sense, and it really seems like tactical grenades received an overall buff just so tac mask would be an additional viable perk in tier 3.
Overall, I like the game and it's definitely the best CoD game since Black Ops 2. It has some serious issues that will need to get worked out but it should be an excellent game once things get fixed. I know a lot of the stuff I complain about won't get fixed but I'm not planning on taking it as seriously as I took previous games simply due to how much the franchise has changed in the past 2 iterations. I give this game a 17.2 on my scale.
