Here's a plug for a game I have really liked a lot.
This game just arrived a few weeks ago. It is the much awaited sequel to the TGC 1 which came out three years ago (Aug 2014). TGC 2 is a mostly pure golf simulation video game developed by a company called HB Studios. It's for PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows and Xbox One, plays on the Unity game engine.
I played the first one a lot, and the sequel is very good. Much better than the first. Much better ball physics, graphics, ball physics and swinging mechanics. First one was great, this one is even better.
What else?
I'll add this. I don't even like playing golf in real life, so I found myself a bit surprised at how much fun I had playing this. Again, it is a mostly a pure bare bones sim game. This isn't EA Tiger Woods bulsh1t stuff, with power skills, supers and other nonsense. Nope. You play with the same clubs everyone else has access to. Your drive is determined by two things,
1) tempo of the back and up swing, and
2) how straight you work the stick. That's pretty much it.
You can add three levels of difficulty (or clubs) to tweak the above, using Standard, Player and Tour clubs. Only difference being Tour clubs give you a bit better spin shot control, as well as distance....but it comes at a price of control. So all types of players can play together. No leveling. No gate-keeping. With this game, 'how you do' is purely determined by skill. Nothing else. You start with everything you'll ever need the first time you sign in. How freaking refreshing is that? It's amazing. If you want to do well, excel, get to the top of the leaderboards, you need to learn the courses, tactics and your swing.
Another huge selling point is that there is NONE of the FPS 'pay to win' bullsh1t, as well as all the crap like DLC and lottery odds to win things. None of that. Nope. Don't have to log on 'x' number of times a week to get this or that, or play a gazillion hours in hopes of getting a game changing gun all your friends have. Nope, there is no Gjallerhorn Driver in this game. Also no prestiging or other silliness of just repeating things over and over. You can log in the first time and play the world's toughest course and try to top the best score. Right from the get go. Fvck Destiny.
Oh yeah, ADULTS play this game if you match up with someone. I've never ever come across an annoying 16 year old CoD ahole, or some Destiny playing bitch who feels the need to t-bag you after you been killed. Yeah, this community is mostly all adult, mature people. This even carries over to the youtube channels following the game. Have yet to see a single TGC youtuber even remotely resembling the typical CoD tuber, like that pencil necked douche TMartin for example. Again, refreshing.
Best of all, this game doesn't work on the Destiny or CoD model. For you Destiny or CoD fans....imagine a game where you aren't stuck with the twelve same mp maps the developers give you, playing them over and over for months. Imagine a game where YOU and the player base make the maps. And those maps you make, are created on THE best video game map-creation tool kit in the industry. There is almost no limit to what you can do, working on a template that can be square miles in size, where you can get a detailed as the height and color of the blades of grass. It's freaking amazing what you can do and make. So what you have, are thousands of maps to choose from that just continue to grow and add as the game evolves. And yes, all these maps for free! Zero costs. This game has all types of courses; fantasy courses, sims, and even detailed recreation courses like Augusta National and Oakmont. With this last one, the RCC's, this is my big interest. Just about every single top golf course in the world will be in this game. The design community is just crazy skilled making them.
