I say 1 character. Does grinding up 3 characters sound like fun to you? No, me neither. The only grind that you will have, is leveling up your subclasses as increasing them is level dependent now, instead of usage dependent. What power level are you now? 250? 260? By making a new character of the same class as you are now, as soon as character 2 hits level 20, you switch gear. Remember when you were power 200 when you hit level 20? Now you'll be 260... so when you do new events and get new rewards for finishing the story line etc etc... you'll get even better rewards than you did the first time. So grind up your character in public events until they're 20? For example: remember that guaranteed exotic piece you got from Sloane for turning on the pistons? Remember how you don't use it anymore because it's so low level? well... if you run that mission at level 20 and power level 260, and get the reward... it's much more useful. And if you are that set on having 3 different classes, that's cool: just share your weapons. But really, there's virtually no grind in making a 2nd character of the same class. Heck, if I was smarter, I would have transferred even more equipment to my alts... c'est la vie I guess. There's no downside to making 3 characters of the same class.... you'll probably run events multiple times anyways, so why not get rewards for it? Hit a level you feel comfortable at (I'll probably start at 260/70ish) then start anew. It just sucks that the Ishtar Commander App still hasn't updated to Destiny 2 yet.

Destiny Item Manager (DIM) now works on mobile as a stand alone website. It'll fill your Ishtar Commander needs.

Agreed.... but once you've gone Ishtar Commando, it's so hard to use others. It's so f$$king fast and easy. TGD was nice for resource spiltting... but for transfering, Ishtar Commander Sir, yes Sir!

But guys... Titan master race. Both sentinel and striker rock right now. Probably my 2 favorite subclasses in the game, and they are both titan. I will have one of each character later. I decided against a second Hunter for now because it looks like 'cheesing' the milestones for powerful engrams don't always work and that was the only reason why I would run a second Hunter before the raid. If cross-infusion was allowed, I would probably have started on a Warlock or Titan at least. Going to see what the drop rates are like for the raid first. I think I'll always main a Hunter because it is that kind of role that I was used to in Borderlands (Mordecai, Zer0/Maya, Aurelia).

I don't get the three of the same characters thing at all to be fair marco. You level up a little faster, sure. But isn't it actually fun to use the other classes?

I did it both ways last time and I found having a different styles of playing to be more fun. The game gets grindish enough, why not try to add any variety when you can.

I deleted 90% of this response.... it got a bit too ranty and longwinded. Ultimately: "Fun" is in the eye of the beholder. It's fun for me to be a Specialist/Master of One rather than a Jack of all Trades. It's fun for me to have full sets of stuff. It was fun to have a huge ego stroke/epeen in TTK getting to max light quick and having PUGs choose me over someone else (if I had a nickel for every 317/8/9 or 332/3/4 warlock I was chosen over because I was 320 or 335.... I'd have a lot of nickels) It was fun to not have to grind for exotic armour I never had. Other than the Gjallie, I wanted for naught. It didn't hurt that the exotic class weapons for the Hunter and titan were shit... though the Hunter sniper... the stillpiecer? would have been nice to have. It was fun for me to have tons of resources and never once having to run out of anything. Don't get me wrong: I played the hell out of the titan and hunter during the beta... and while I did have fun doing that (especially the poledancer hunter super) ultimately, the fun I have and the fun I am used to having, exceeds the fun that a new class would give me. It doesn't hurt that I run with bradman and he's pretty much a PermaTitan too, so it's rare that I ever say "f$$k I need a bubble here" All we need is a permaHunter and we'd be our own little version of the Vanguard leaders.

Normally I would agree but the powerful engrams and exotics boost your light level up faster than chest farming could. I only thought of doing multiple Hunters because of how soon the raid is to be released and I ideally want to play when it is released because of inadvertent spoilers. I also got bummed out of attempting world's first for Wrath of the Machine because I wasn't a high enough light level to be competitive. It wasn't like I was barely playing during House of Wolves or anything. I'd have made the raid to be released later personally. Not much of the character skills are totally new though. Spamming public events for exotic engrams and I spend the Glimmer on those blue mods so I can use them as currency for the purple ones when I get to 280.

Have some hype and build up first to allow us to get 3 characters r2g first

Yeah me too, I have spent too much time playing D2 this past week :') Would have liked to take a slower approach, but had a ton of fun either way. Having three of the same characters doesn't make a huge difference in power though, as I have seen. It does make a little difference but once you have powerful weapons on character 1, the powerful armor will soon follow on character 2. Finally got all three above 290 though. Not bad for 48 hours of gametime www.wastedondestiny.com/search/mrqupieHowever, the recommended light for raid is 260-280. 265 is very manageable. I mean, most destiny fans are 260+ I guess?

Agree. They pretty much push people to be no-lifers with this game and that's what turned me (one of a few things) off originally. The game has been out a week, come on. Take Qupie right above, with 48 hours. That's almost seven hours a day for the last week. I'm sure he's not even the outlier either. Averaging 2 hours was a bit much for me. I'm sure there are people hitting 10+ a day.
I have played three solid sessions so far (last Wed, Thurs and last night). Maybe five hours each session. So I'm about 15 hours in and I got one of my characters up to Level 20, Power level of 210 I think.
Now what do I do? I need better weapons and gear to power up to 270 or higher.
- I haven't finished the campaign yet, so I imagine that will kick me some better stuff?
- The game opened up two new tasks with level 20, Patrols and Challenges. Plus Strikes. The 'Milestone' feature is saying I should do these tasks. This should help?
- What is most confusing to me is these three things.
1. Engrams. I got them upon Level 20. Ok. I turned them in to the sniper bro and another person. I got a bunch of shaders, mods, and some equipment. Should I sit on this stuff a bit? Or use the mods right away? It seems like every time I refill my reputation meter (from getting those eTokens in places like the EDZ), I can get a new engram? Should I wait on cashing those in?
2. I supposedly got a jet bike, but I have no clue how to equip it
3. I stupidly ended up buying some diamonds, (2,200), I have no clue what they do. More mod shit?
4. How do I power level my few exotic weapons to my current power level? I have a chest piece at 110, it would be nice to get it to 210.

Plus Strikes. The 'Milestone' feature is saying I should do these tasks. This should help? Once I finished the story line, in an average of 3 to 4 hour gaming session, I went up 20 power levels per session. I think I'm high 250's now. After that, planet jump to get heroic public events, kills as many HVT as you can, and grind blues up up up. One thing that also helped me a LOT was faction rep... I had a ton of EDZ tokens that I turned in and James Bond there gave me at least 5 legendary weapons and 4 pieces of legendary armour... all at a decent power level. Break down any and all unwanted low level weapons to get gunsmith parts and turn them in.. again, I got about 5 weapons from him too... all decent power level What is most confusing to me is these three things. 1. Engrams. I got them upon Level 20. Ok. I turned them in to the sniper bro and another person. I got a bunch of shaders, mods, and some equipment. Should I sit on this stuff a bit? I supposedly got a jet bike, but I have no clue how to equip it It should autoequip... look at your character and press the down arrow 3. I stupidly ended up buying some diamonds, (2,200), I have no clue what they do. More mod shit? Never heard of them... who did you buy them from? 4. How do I power level my few exotic weapons to my current power level? I have a chest piece at 110, it would be nice to get it to 210. Find a blue or legendary chest that's 210 and if you have the shards/glimmer, infuse it up. Infusion has changed a bit that you have to have the same types of weapons and armour to infuse (pulse rifles can't be infused to auto rifles, and vv)

For the record...I am trying to look this stuff up online, but here's the issue. It seems like one out of every three web sites I go to is just ad-bait for all kinds of nasty shit. It really sucks. I'll go search for "Bright Dust Destiny 2", find a few links, pick what looks reputable, click on a link.... and then suddenly ads are popping up, browser freezes up, and all kinds of other bullshit. Very frustrating.

My bad. It's "silver', not diamonds. You spend real money to get Silver, which in turn can then buy Bright Engrams. I did this. I'm got suckered in. I spent I think $10 and got like 2,200 pieces of silver, which I then bought a package of six bright engrams for 800 silver. I think i have 1,400 left. I don't think i got anything that great from the Bright Engrams.

NP...... it's nice to talk destiny stuff on the boards again.
Silver is basically the microtransaction currency for special stuff, some of which you can earn in game and some you cannot.
You deal with Tess Evress at Eververse about it.

This game improves on so much from Destiny 1. The one thing I wish they would improve is the striking reward. There really isn't an incentive for completing strikes past fulfilling blue weapon quests or nightfall rewards. Instead, the prime farm is the "nessus crescent" which involves going (event watcher's grave -> sparrow to hallows -> event at hallows -> fast travel to artifact-> sparrow to the tangle -> event at tangle -> fast travel to watcher's grave -> event at watcher's grave -> repeat) with the fireteam medalion popped. This nets you the most loot/glimmer/cycle per minute with only a minute or so of downtime. Nailing the heroic versions of the events earn you more than double the exp that the normal version does. The nightfall change is exciting and very.... "arcade-y." I'm a fan. The general consensus from the casual crowd (reddit) is that the changes are bad. You have some severe time pressure. You start with 11 minutes and you get more time by doing certain things. Last week it was +2 seconds for trash mobs and +7 for yellow bars. This week there is are hoops that you need to jump through. Each earns you 30+ seconds. Challenge mode hits you with even more pressure... cutting the time down to 6-7 minutes... meaning you need to figure out everyone's route and when to pop which supers. It feels very much like a mini raid. I didn't like last week's, however and my group figured out that the rewards were mostly cosmetic...so we didn't attempt it past an hour of effort. However, I'll brag that we were able to reset raid and complete this week's challenge mode (light level 300) after only 3 failed attempts with one full minute left on the clock. I would be happy to share our routing if anyone is in that light range. I am definitely looking forward to the raid...and I am quite happy with my level for it. It looks like alot of you guys are already raid ready. I'm proud. Any xbros are more than welcome to join my clan. I can guarantee weekly level-ups and rewards. I have already assimilated a few other clans into ours. We are trying to earn our way into the "guided gaming" beta by helping as many people as possible with nightfalls and raiding. Make no mistake... I am 100% trying to poach you guys.

iw5000, here are some tips from Reddit (generally my goto site for Destiny info - www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/) on what approach you should take now that you're level 20: Power Leveling Guide - www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6ytybz/power_leveling_guide/At level 20, you start focusing on leveling Power. There are a few interesting mechanics around this: - Since Power is the average of the best gear in all 8 slots, you must always prioritize your weakest slots as you level. - Blue engrams and blue drops decrypt from anywhere between -2 to +4 Power level from your overall average Power level. - Legendary engrams often decrypt beyond +4 levels from your average Power level, up to a softcap of 265 Power. - You may receive legendary gear that is beyond 265 Power from vendors; that will be mostly likely because it has a +5 attack/defense Legendary mod on the gear already installed. So you may receive up to 270 gear from vendors on rare occasions. You may also receive just the legendary mods on their own that you can insert into your gear to boost its power by +5. The gunsmith drops these legendary mods, as well as a few exotics, in his rank-up packages. - Remember to open your engrams as soon as you get them - their Power is determined by your Power the moment you acquired them, instead of your Power when you decrypt them. Spend your glimmer freely: buy 200 Power vendor gear if you aren't there yet, and Scout Reports from Cayde to see all the treasure chests with ease for farming tokens. Now, for a short guide to efficient power leveling: As a fresh level 20 that just beat the campaign, you are free to do any activity to gain more Power. Your best bet at this point is to stow away certain activities that reward gear past the softcap of 260 for later - specifically, do not turn in milestones, nightfall, exotic weapon questlines, or cayde's treasure maps. Instead, focus on activities that reward blue gear. In order of the fastest to the slowest for attaining blue gear, you can do: - Public events: around 1-2 blue pieces, chance of legendary and exotic pieces, glimmer and vendor tokens (20 vendor tokens = 1 or 2 legendary pieces). They are by far the fastest if you hop from event to event. However, they can get tedious fairly quickly. Try your best to activate the "Heroic" version of these events as they are more likely to give 2 blue pieces instead of 1 upon successful completion and a potentially higher chance at an exotic. - Farming treasure chests, killing yellow bar elite wandering mobs, looting lost sectors, finding regional chests -- all are amazing for getting vendor tokens, but are slower on average than spamming public events when it comes to getting blues. However, when you want to get purples, do these more frequently instead for vendor tokens. - Side story, vanguard strikes, crucible matches - fun original content but quite slow when it comes to amassing a bunch of blues compared to the methods above. Most of these activities will provide you enough blues over time to get 260. While doing these, remember to occasionally open up faction packages when your gear plateaus to get guaranteed legendaries that pull your average higher. At 260, the softcap for blue gear, you can choose to progress by amassing legendaries. - Legendaries go to 265, but at times drop at 270 from vendors because they come premodded. You can also add your own mods to your gear to push it to 270. - If your only goal is to get these vendor legendaries, focus more on farming tokens instead of public events. Public events have a chance at dropping exotics, but at 260-270, you're better off progressing via guaranteed vendor legendaries and mods. - You can also get modded legendaries from crucible/strikes as rare drops that go up to 270. After 270, the only way to progress is by the methods you patiently saved for yourself this entire time, namely: - Milestones that reward "Powerful Gear" purple engrams. These are on a weekly lockout. - Exotic weapon quests that reward various exotics that scale beyond 290 light. Do them when your weapon slot is holding you back. - Nightfall drops. Weekly lockout. - Possible Cayde treasure map drops. - After 270, your blue and purple random drops will break the softcap but will always be 6-9 below your current average Power. The "hardcap" for these blue and random drops will probably always be 6-9 below the max possible light in the game, but we don't have enough info to know that yet. Once all of those are dried up, you can choose to progress further by: - Using super high Power weapons/armor to pull your average light level ahead, then using the blue/purple drops to fill your lowest slots. i.e. if you're 279 light b/c you have a 289 exotic, a 279 energy weapon, and a 286 power weapon, your blue/purple will decrypt at 272. If you replace all of your armor with the 272 level, you'll hit 280 or above, and can then go on to unlock another super high powered exotic (comes from quest rewards, or high powered legendary that comes from "Powerful Gear" rewards. - Farming exotic drops from public events, crucible, and strikes. Its slower but its currently the only way to progress outside of weekly lockouts or the raid. If you have two armor or weapon slots that are at max level with two different exotics, you need to infuse one of the exotics into a legendary for it to count in the game's algorithm, as it only takes into account one exotic weapon and one exotic armor when calculating your highest average level. A comment below notes that you should infuse these exotics into legendaries that have a legendary mod on it to end with +5 power above the base infusion. - Making another character of the same class and transferring gear to take advantage of all the weekly lockouts on that new character. You cannot cross-infuse, so if you make a different class and move over your weapons earlier, you will need to get all of its armor at 270 or so independently grinding it, and then hope to go beyond your previous character's level because you did your weekly lockouts at a higher overall level. This is still slower (but arguably more fun) than making another character of the same class. Your weapons will carry your alt character's light level really well - you can easily get to 265 within an hour or two on a fresh level 20 alt if your weapons are sitting at 280+. - u/Oniji says "You can trade in multiple rare mods for legendary +5 power mods at 280, at the gunsmith. He currently sells mods for every slot except Hunter cloaks." - Once you make +5 mods for all of your slots, your drops (that come unmodded most of the time) can be infused to your modded gear to raise your modded gear's level. So if you have a 282 piece that's already modded (base value 277), and you get a 279 drop, you can infuse the 279 drop into the 282 modded piece and it'll go to 284. - Dump all your extra glimmer into 'random mod' at the gunsmith so you can build a stockpile of blue mods to make purple mods with. A bit of a wall of text, but that might help.

Here's another guide to getting past Power 265 - www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/6z73y7/how_to_get_past_265_from_a_290/First Step Is To Reach 265: You can reach 265 by basically doing anything in the game. Like Public Events, Strikes, Crucible etc. Get to 265 With Rare quality Gear mostly from public events and Save your Location Tokens (See Edit #2) Next step is to Reach 270: You can easily reach 270 really quickly by Leveling up all the NPC's using the tokens. These Legendaries can you get up to 270 Light gear So that's a Huge Boost! You can also get legendaries from crucible/strikes as rare drops that go up to 270. Once You're 270: Do the Nightfall and Open the Luminous/ Powerful Engram. That's gonna boost your light up to easily 272 or Maybe 273. After you're done with your nightfall, Do All the Exotic Quests one by One. They will increase your level a lot, The Higeset exotic drop I've seen is 294 so that's really high. So Once you're done with All the Exotic Quests, Start Doing Cayde Treasure Maps They also have a chance to drop really powerful gear. This is all you can do that Guarantees higher light reward. But there's more, Now Once There's nothing left Start doing the Public Events. Exotics level you a lot, and if you're lucky enough You might get 270 gear From legendaries as well, I've managed to get some 270 Legendary gear from engrams so that's another way to level up! Second last way to level up is when you reach 280, Buy Legendary Mods to increase Light of all your gear by 5, That's another boost right there. You can get mods from Gunsmith By trading in 3 Rare mods. Last Thing you can do is Start another character and take advantage of the weekly stuff! Start another character Level it up to 20 and Transfer all your gear from your first char to your second and Do all the Exotic Quests, Nightfalls and Basically all the ways to get Luminous engrams and Exotic gear. Make sure you create the same class cause you cannot cross infuse anymore, basically you cannot infuse your warlock armor into hunter armor. I've Seen Many replies on how to Get Luminous Engrams, Well There are 4 Ways as far as I can Remember. (Please Correct me If I'm Wrong) 1) Hit Level 20 / Complete the Story (I'd Say Save this Engram and open it up Later) 2) Clan XP Engram 3) Crucible Quest (Do 2 Quick Play Then 2 Comp then a Couple of More matches) 4) After the Nightfall A Little Infusion Tip To Not Fudge Up:If You're Infusing a Higher Light Weapon into a Lower Light, Mod the Lower Light weapon with +5 First and Infuse Higher Light Second. Edit 1: By "Upgrading NPC's" I mean Turn in tokens to boost Reputation, so they give you Vendor Reward Engrams, there is no level. Some People got Confused. Edit 2: I Don't Know Why Some People aren't getting 265 Rares(Blues) Cause I did as far as I Remember. or It's Cause You need to get to a Certain Light level to Start getting 265 Loot. But none the Less, Blues can get you up to 265. Also, As I am 292 RN Blues Drop at 270 As Well.

How do you get those scouting reports? Is there something specific you do with Cayde? I do recall getting an extra flying robot thing, that supposedly shows you where chests are IF you are like 30 meters away. I think that was just for the EDZ. Is it something like that?
"Get to 265 With Rare quality Gear mostly from public events and Save your Location Tokens (See Edit #2)
What is a location token? Is that the token I get from chests while doing public events on the various worlds? Those tokens I win, where if I get enough of them (5, 10, etc..), I typically take them to vendor at that world, to bump up my reputation meter. Then when I level it up after awhile, I get a Legendary engram. Is that the process?

I finished the campaign tonight.. Got up to level 220. m.imgur.com/a/h3uPLThis is--by far--the best Power guide I've seen. The one posted previously, which I've used myself, works on the assumption that you'll have amazingly great RNG. You won't. Also, I feel it's kinda vague.

Good good, next (if you are looking to progress power level asap, if you don't that is fine too!) save your planetary coins (yes that is the stuf you brought to the guy in the church on earth). There are several different ones, (earth, titan, nessus, IO, vanguard etc) and you should try to only hand them in if you have 10+, as they reward more when bundled up. 2x10 tokens gets you legendary gear AFAIK. Try to save these coins until you are lvl 260+ because right now, blue gear is just as valuable as purple gear for you.
Exotic quests help a bunch too, but it might be a little bit too early for those. But if you feel like it, you can start playing some of the blue missions on each planet, which is essentially the starting point for the exotic weapon of that planet.
Don't bother upgrading your exotics at this point in time, just wear them at lower light. The gear you get is not dependent on the power level you are currently wearing, but on the possible highest power level you can get too (so just carrying or even having the highest gear in your vault will increase the power level of your rewards). Don't dismantle your highest gear is really all there is too it, and then just use your favorite weapon as long as it is ~200 power.
Public events will help a ton, try to look up what to do to make them heroic which gives you better rewards. Nessus and Earth are the most conveiniend ones with fast travel.
I think that is the most important stuff for your next (few) sessions.
Edit: Also check out every single legendary gear you get, some have legendary mods (+5 power level) instead of blue ones. Save those legendaries! They will be invaluable in a few sessions. I would save as much of the blue mods for now, but if you want to use one feel free to do so. Changing the element of your favorite energy weapon can be really usefull for example. These mods will become important once you reach 280.

I have been cashing them in when I get to ten, but I can start waiting. I haven't seen any Milestone or indicators for any exotic quests yet. I'll keep a lookout for this. Ok. All my weapons are over 200, and have been shredding my extras for the gun parts to get engrams at the gun smith. As far as my Exotic armor pieces (I think I have two), I just shelved them. I have no clue how to upgrade them yet. Speaking of which, I have TONS of these mod and other things I have won and no clue how to use them. I've been reading up on infusing stuff, modding stuff, but still a good bit baffled by it. I quit playing the prior destiny before it was introduced, so this is new to me. Been trying to squeeze one or two of them in each time I go to do something else. Dumien wrote something about some 'loop' he does (max points per min, etc,,), can't remember where I saw it, but I'm going to look into that too. I've just been saving all those mod and other icons. As said above, I don't know how to use them, so I've been sitting on them until later. I'll look close at the legendary gear I got, to see about the above.

To get the reports you have to finish the campaign and then talk to the main NPCs. Campaign is finished. At level 222. I talked to Cayde after the campaign but all he did was send me on a quest to set up some patrol beacons. It was a five step process, got it done. Which then set up a challenge/task of doing two patrols. Haven't done those yet. EDIT...I might be mistaken. I do remember a NPC giving me the option of buying some tasks. Maybe those were the maps. So far I have done, post campaign - Talked to all the NPC's post campaign, but none of them gave me any maps of all of the treasure chests. - Did two Strikes. They were kind of fun actually. Jumping and other obstacles. Felt like a mini Raid - Did a few heroic public events (no clue how to tell if it's regular or heroic before starting it?) - Killed shit. - Did the above Cayde beacon five step mission. This opened up the Patrol tasks. That said, I think I am done with the campaign? The end credits ran. But that said, it looks like there are still missions I can do with the Red War or something like that. Maybe that's the meditations thing. I also need to open up my third super power on the Warlock. I didn't realize there are now three, not two. I have to find where the light is hiding in the EDZ. No clue where that is.

Wait til you hit 260.... the previous joy of getting gear you can use from blues dries up pretty darn quick... but you jsut dismantle them down and get gunsmith rep and he gives you 260+ legendaries... so in the end, it's all good
