I bought the DLC, did it come out this week? Do I need to start playing? You'll have to relevel all your stuff and you get some new stuff. Log on and enjoy the Promethean Lens (solar coldheart) before it gets nerfed into uselessness So if I am reading the above correctly, those people who didn't buy the DLC....they game is pretty much over for them. They can't progress anymore? If so, that's pretty shitty. they just can't do the new stuff and anything that was level increased (prestige raid) they can't do anymore either.

Eververse is the end game, people are only now letting that sink in. But you know that there are going to be hundreds of people like Bud last night, who'll log on, have some fun, and drop $20 because "it's only 20 bucks" and don't care about endgame

Yep, a whole lot of players may not care. Doesn't change the fact that all roads lead to EVERVERSE FOREVER AND EVER.
And I'm cool with that.

They can't progress anymore? If so, that's pretty shitty. Came out Tuesday, and it's up to you. It's going to take like 2 weeks to hit max power again (which doesn't really matter anyway), so play whenever you want. There's not a whole lot to do so you'd catch up pretty quick. Is the game over for them? They can still play, so no, not technically. Realistically though, yeah, there's not really anything they can do to progress any further. It's always been that way with Destiny, not that I'm endorsing that model, but this should've been expected. I'm guessing a lot of players are new, especially on the PC front. And PC players can enjoy the likes of World at Warcraft where these practices don't happen. Sure, it's more expensive but there's a lot more content to take advantage of. I remember people criticising lockouts in Destiny 1, of which I was one of those people, and they were mostly ignored. Now we have seen the expansion of Eververse items encroach on the endgame because the raid does not currently offer ships and sparrows etc. You even have to redeem Bright/Illuminated Engrams in the Tower so that others see what you got, rather than opening the loot boxes from orbit like in Destiny 1. For console players they should have known better had they played Destiny 1. Can't wait for people to get the base game for Christmas and realise they can't do much. My only issue with stuff like this is that the criticism seems to be muted when Bungie does this. If another studio did this, I swear the issue would be 'louder'.

IGN and Kotaku are both reporting on it. Jim Sterling did a video on it. It’s all over reddit. I think the criticism is pretty loud already, actually, and expect it to get louder. Destiny 1 got the benefit of the doubt because it was new, D2 is not going to get that at all because people are fed up with years of this BS.

Looks like I didn't check Jim Sterling before making that post. Good to see it's getting traction. I still swear if this was a studio in Ubisoft's territory like Massive or someone from EA I reckon the lockouts would still have been louder during Destiny 1 though. Maybe the gaming industry needs some regulation by the looks of it. And to think the monetization gravy train, at least for loot boxes, starting with FIFA Ultimate Team.

As long as it's cosmetic and has minimal to no in game benefit (the only thing I can think of is the fireteam medallions, which are easy enough to get rid off) Bungo will escape from the people's wraith. When Bungo releases a consumable that allows Zavalla to transmat in, and start Titan smashing all enemies in sight... for $9.99.... the media will $hit a brick (as they should) When Bungo releases a consumable that allows you to look have Zavalla's big ol head for 4 hours (a big pale Jackolyte) for $9.99.... no one will or should give a $hit

And that is on top of other design decisions that has lead to the removal of sought after gear like raid gear having non-generic stats like the Wrath armour and exotic quests like Touch of Malice, Black Spindle, Thorn, and Outbreak Prime. It just means that more players focus on the spendgame than they would had their not been disincentivisation of activities like the raid. I'm not actually against aesthetics being used in microtransactions outright, because not every developer is the same, but Bungie have appeared to have hampered their own game by doing so.

The thing is that those cosmetics are removed from the game to loot boxes, in a game that is supposed to be about loot. Considering we used to get a mote of light when we leveled, I have no problem playing the game to get more bright engrams. To be honest, the one thing that has kept me playing is the cool $hit I get from a bright engram... doing flashpoints and C2A and getting bright engrams is worth it for me. I'd probably have quit if I didn't get them. And that is on top of other design decisions that has lead to the removal of sought after gear like raid gear having non-generic stats like the Wrath armour and exotic quests like Touch of Malice, Black Spindle, Thorn, and Outbreak Prime. I don't see the correlation. It just means that more players focus on the spendgame than they would had their not been disincentivisation of activities like the raid. I'm not actually against aesthetics being used in microtransactions outright, because not every developer is the same, but Bungie have appeared to have hampered their own game by doing so. The disincentivisation of activities has more to do with a $hitty raid story and being given free weapons via joining a clan... than the spendgame. If there was an actual endgame worth doing (Kings Fall) then people would be all over it.

I haven't logged on in a couple weeks, and the news certainly isn't inspiring. I still love the gameplay, but also very much wish out had more depth. There are so many great games they could have used as a model. Borderlands is a prime example. Why can't they do better?

I'd probably have quit if I didn't get them. And that's the thing, a lot of the work has gone into Eververse stock and not much else. I mean I have enough Bright Dust to buy the new gear set for all my characters and I got the chest for my Hunter from an engram but why exactly is a Vex themed gear set doing in Eververse? At least the Optimacy set I could see why that wouldn't suit being available outside of Eververse. Look at Heroic Strikes. No modifiers like we had in vanilla Destiny 1. None. I would happily grind them if the modifiers made them fun and/or challenging rather than do the three strikes required for the powerful engram and give us strike specific loot as an incentive to grind them on top of the modifiers. Honestly, I wouldn't have been that bothered if there was stuff to get in the rest of the game like the exotic quests in Destiny 1. We don't even have ships, sparrows or ghost shells that drop from raids any longer. And why would they when these have been added to Eververse? That said, there are functional/power items that are creeping into the Eververse stock if you compare D1 to D2 - like XP boosts on ghosts that have been improved on with exotic ones that are new to season 2 etc. If those were available for as a direct purchase people will scream pay to win far more because it's literally staring them in the face. Instead I wonder how many players, especially minors, have gambled trying to get stuff like that.

There are so many great games they could have used as a model. Borderlands is a prime example. Why can't they do better? Imagine Borderlands with Destiny's gunplay. Unfortunately I don't see Gearbox shying away from the current controversies that are surrounding certain games. I mean they get stick for monetizing the game because Gearbox offers you to buy so many things separately etc. I'm guessing Destiny's stance on 'streamlining' the game and having 'parity' between PvE and PvP means Destiny will never reach the character builds depth that Borderlands has. It's a shame in a way because I saw no harm in having different characters be more useful with specific guns/builds. I use Jakobs sniper rifles with Maya and Vladof sniper rifles with Zer0, and if I wanted to min/max with both I'd use the Pimpernel. I can even do allegience runs too, a pity they made this somewhat impractical for the Pre-Sequel. Although I've only done two allegience runs - Maliwan with Maya and Bandit with Krieg. Safe options.

This Apology @ Bungo brought the following - Raid layer drops today... who will be first? There are exploits that if used, will negate that gold medal - Faction rally looks good... will post a cheese/exploit when someone finds it - Promethean Lens will be fixed later next week when patch 1.1.1 drops... until then: be kind and rewind - Masterworks dropping next week, updated/better raid rewards in early 2018 - They're working on fixing the whole Playstation trophy thing as well as the PS4/PSPro HDR thing - Other stuff www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46526

ahhahahahahahh
Xur's in the Winding Cove.
I can't f##king believe it.... he's selling the red laser of death, the Prometheus Lens. Because why should only a few have fun, when everyone can ruin PVP with it
As for armour... he's selling the MK. 44 Stand Asides legs for Titan, The Dragon's Shadow chest for Hunter and Nezerac's Sin for Warlock (dunno about the others, but NSin is a must buy for warlocks)
Enjoy your Trial of Prometheus weekend!

I was sort of assuming Xur would be on Mercury, where only DLC owners could reach him. I'm disappointed at this missed opportunity for more rage.

Sorry for late reply, Marko. I'm still early on. I'm supposed to go to Titan, but have been waiting to do with my brother. I am around level 15, though, from running around on Earth like it was a patrol in D1 and just exploring and doing events.
I didn't get the DLCs yet, but then I haven't completed the story yet either so maybe there's not so much of a rush. Hopefully they will be on sale again at some point when I'm not broke.

Just as reminder: the following will be arriving in the patch tomorrow, December 12th. (copy/pasta per the Mei Culpa post from Noseworthy and Smith)
Masterworks
- Legendary Weapons will drop as or be upgraded to become Masterworks versions Masterworks will have a few advantages over the baseline Legendary weapon: - Track and display the number of kills with that weapon (with choice between total count or Crucible-only count) - Generate orbs for you and your allies on multi-kills
- Add weapon stat bonuses that are selected randomly from a small pool and are re-rollable - Masterworks drop from any source of Legendary weapons for characters above 250 Power - Unwanted Masterworks can be dismantled into materials that can upgrade an existing Legendary Weapon into a Masterwork - Raid and Trials of the Nine Weapons will have a very high chance to be Masterworks - We have future plans to extend Masterworks to other gear and expose your kill counts in more places (e.g. Crucible kill screen)
Factions
- Faction Armor and Weapons will be unlocked for purchase for Legendary Shards and Faction Tokens on most Faction Vendors - All five Armor Slots will always be present, and Weapons will rotate weekly on Factions that have them - Slots will be unlocked by claiming Reward Engrams from the respective Faction - You will get credit for engrams you may have already claimed since launch
Iron Banner - Armor Ornaments will be added to some existing Armor sets for more visual customization without losing your Shaders or Mods - These ornaments will be unlocked by completing objectives specific to each set, and are permanently unlocked account-wide, just like Exotic Weapon ornaments - They will be applied to the base pieces that you may already have collected, and can now unlock on Vendors if not - Armor and Weapons will be unlocked for purchase for Legendary Shards and Faction Tokens
Xur - Xur has some new offerings for players collecting Exotics: - Every week, you’ll be able to acquire one of the new Fated Engrams using Legendary Shards that will decrypt as Exotics that aren’t already in your collection - A simpler Three of Coins that boosts Exotic drop rates from any source for 4 hours - No obscure stacking mechanics or need to re-apply before every boss - These cost Legendary Shards and you can have as many as you like
Gift Consumables - Commander Zavala and Lord Shaxx will sell Gift consumables for Legendary Shards that can be used during a Strike or Crucible Match that will serve the following functions: - Grant bonus rewards to everyone in that activity upon completion, friend or foe alike - Award anything from Faction Tokens to a round of Exotics for everyone in the match
Chest/Resource Node Cooldowns - Exploit safeguards on Chests and Resource Nodes are greatly relaxed and players should encounter them less frequently - Even if they do, drop rates for Tokens is only reduced to 30% instead of 0%, and Glimmer will be unaffected - We want to associate a visual indicator with this in a future update, but we weren’t able to pull that off in this update (but we hear you!)
Vendor Icons - Vendors will now beckon you to hand in your Reputation Tokens only when you’re carrying enough to earn a Reward Engram
Ongoing changes - Deepen Rewards for advanced players - Provide More Player Control over obtaining rewards - Make Shards Useful by adding things to use them for - Provide General Quality fixes wherever possible
