.....and I’m seriously unimpressed.
Three years of effort for Treyarch to make this? Really?

I haven’t played any of them since Ghosts cuz I didn’t like the verticality of the games
Now it’s boots on the ground. There are several guns I like. The times to kill are long enough that I can turn on lessor players. I like the specialists that suit my game style, i like the maps
Im a Domination player and this game suits me well. I’ve been really having fun with it

Did you try Blackout? For me, Multiplayer is basically just practice mode for Blackout now.

I have been trying Blackout. It's good. While i hate to compare it to PUBG, i'm going to go there and say it's a bit more fun. A little faster, and it just feels much more polished. I also feel like I can win a gun fight in Blackout, where as in PUB, i lose most gun battles. My aim sucks. I also love the little touches on Blackout so far, like the zombies appearing in the Asylum. Pretty cool.
I have not yet played the zombies.
As far as the Multiplayer...to get into some deeper thoughts. I'm just not sold on it yet. It seems like all the movements have been slightly bumped up. There's no exo jumping, but it seems like there is plenty of boosted movement speeds. Does faster always equate to better? I don't think so. There are some things i like. I pretty much only play Domination, and i love the new format. If you are trying to cap a flag, your efforts stay even if you die. So i guess it's easier to cap now? I like that. But with only five players, and most of them not playing the objective, you even have less help now. Which brings me back to that age old gripe....
That COD is pretty much 20 game modes all playing the same way....people sandbagging the objectives to play for their KD.
So I find the whole idea of no leaderboards and gamer cards that show one's stats, to be very intriguing. I have shouted for them to try this for years. And they have done it.

Don't congratulate them on leaderboards yet, they have said they are coming out with a more detailed combat record soon. I don't know if they ever intend to add a lobby leaderboard.
I find the meta of limited explosives interesting. No C4 for example. As someone who would play Dom as a solo a lot, C4 was my go to for controlling flags.

I find the meta of limited explosives interesting. No C4 for example. As someone who would play Dom as a solo a lot, C4 was my go to for controlling flags. I'm having a hard time with this too. As a solo player in Dom, like you..i NEED grenades to control flags, especially from a distance. And there aren't any grenades in this game, as far as i can see (other than the specialist with the cluster grenade. this is frustrating. The whole 5v5 is interesting too. As a solo player, this is good and bad. I now have 17% less people to help cap a flag. And so far, playing this game, capping flags seems to occur even less. I've played almost some entire halves in some games, where no one caps the B flag. WTF. Kind of ridiculous. So does speeding up the movements, ADS, lateral speed, jumping...all that stuff, making a more ADD Adderoll based gameplay, make up for having less people in the map?

there are grenades in the game for everybody. You can not use your standard specialist equipment and play frags, stuns, trophy systems, etc.
There is a huge XP boost for getting B flag first. So you shoudl normally bypass your initial flag (there are always some dummy teammates who will grab it anyway) and rush to B to get it. It's worth the 1k XP

There are frags, which are hilariously inferior to clusters and not as useful for Domination which needs more of a precision explosive. And like abilities they regenerate which is just weird.
But losing C4 is a head scratcher. I mean was it really overpowered or something?

I was unimpressed and did not enjoy the beta, so I was not prepared to buy the full game.
I felt the gameplay and TTK didn't suit the maps and spawn system, many features such as the specialists felt gimmicky and more annoying than they were fun; and to top it all off the game looked spectacularly ugly on my base PS4 when I tried it

I find that I really enjoy the base movement/gunplay in this game. The lower TTK and such just feels really good. I've always been a fan of slower TTKs, since it adds depth to combat (more than just shoot-first kill-first). FWIW I play pretty much exclusively TDM. Relying on teammates for objectives annoys me.
I will say that this CoD is by far the hardest to get into for new players by virtue of the weapons/unlock system. It's the worst it's ever been. The first assault rifle is the worst in the game. You don't unlock an almost mandatory perk (dead silence) until 18. A second vital (but not quite as important as DS) perk is unlocked at level 30 (gung-ho).
The game is REALLY rough for newbies. Your first rifle is garbage and will lose straight-up gunfights. Without dead silence everyone knows you're coming and has the jump on you to get first shot. And without gung-ho you can't be aggressive because your sprint-out time in non-competitive. BO4 feels great to play... after level 30.
For me the biggest issue is the specialists and the lack of a "classic" mode without them. Specialists are actively killing mine and many players' interest in this game. There's absolutely no reason not to add classic mode as a third set of playlists (core, HC, classic). Except for Treyarch potentially having it's head up it's ass. A certain Blizzard quote of "You think you do, but you don't," comes to mind... And how they've now started working on classic servers...

I think they do that thing where they upscale 720p or whatever to a higher resolution since they can never optimize their games like their peer developers. Forget the term for it, because I am stupid.

Blizzard was right though. It's like everyone proclaiming MW1 was a good game, but then it came back out and people realized it was nostalgia they liked and not the terrible mw1 gameplay.

For one, movement speed was faster, which screwed up the spawns. The bigger issues were the mtx and things outside of gameplay. The game isn't broken or unplayable.

I bought the ps4 in October of 2017, until that date I was still playing bo2, I bought ww2 ... small and weird maps, slow ttk, a disgust, then I play the beta of bo4 ... the same thing but still slower ttk, the slowest of all cods ... and also i hate specialists. In the middle of that i also play bo3, the maps and weapons were great. Coming from having recently played bo2, the ttk in bo4 is disgusting, it is literally the double than bo2, for me it's not a COD. And on the other hand, Fortnite appeared ... the game with the most skillgap I have ever played. I don't know what they will do this year, but what they can't do is launch another COD at $ 60- $ 70, I can't believe they don't realize that charging $ 60 is not how they can earn more money. I'm still happy that I didn't spend $ 72 dollars on bo4, and I regret having done it with ww2.

I think Fortnite has proven you can release a console/desktop free to play game in the US market and still rake in absurd cash. Activi$ion is probably heading in that direction, at least with Battle Royale.
They need to quit feeding us rushed & regurgitated crap on an annual basis. If/when their stocks really start tanking is when you will see changes.

Activision stock has been kind of tanking.
Fortnite is a game that took like six years to make, and completely pivoted off of being a paid zombie horde game to copy a runaway 'indie' success, which was only possible because they build industry-leading tech with Unreal Engine. That Blackout turned out as well as it did is a minor miracle. But it is kind of shallow compared to Fortnite and PUBG. I do think they should take it F2P and make it a platform moving forward... My guess is we'll see them establish a precedent with F2P Blackout in a couple more months and then tie some new BR map to COD2019(MW4) as exclusive access for X months before it's added to F2P Blackout.
I don't expect them to shitcan the standalone $60 products anytime soon. I don't think there's any way they're going to make more money with a long-term support model than they do with cashing in yearly Madden-style. The question is whether COD can really be evergreen like sports games or if it just a longer-to-run-in-the-ground version of Guitar Hero.

Being good at Guitar Hero was definitely a lot of fun, at least as much fun as being bad at real guitar. Finally learning how to tap the intro to Through the Fire and Flames and then just barely flubbing my way through the rest of the song is a top all-time gaming memory. So I kinda miss Guitar Hero 2. I just don't miss Guitar Hero World Tour, or Guitar Hero 5. Or any of that other shit.

Rock Band actually taught me how to play real drums. I got the ION Drum Rocker back when it came out (a legit electric drum set that also works as controller input for RB) and from that moved to a real kit. The key to getting started on drums is "limb separation", and the game teaches that perfectly (minus the left foot). Also completing the "Endless Setlist" on Expert with a full 4-piece band is a top gaming memory for me. There were only 3 of us but we took turns singing while playing our instrument at the same time (yeah I'm so cool I bought a microphone stand so I could sing while drumming)

I liked the fact that Pleymo's song New Wave escaped being censored. I think Rock Band got me into Stevie Ray Vaughan earlier than I would have done.

I would love to hear why you think Blackout is shallow compared to PUBG. I have now played both, but no where near the extent you have. I don't even know if I can even formulate any type of coherent group of thoughts on which is better. I like PUBG, I like Blackout, both are good in different ways. PUBG maybe feels a bit grittier to me. That's all i got for now. I am in the level 30's on the multiplayer on BO4. I'm trying to like it. Very hard. Been using the second LMG (i think it's the second one, the Titan?) mostly and almost have all the optics unlocked, with the gun at level 12. It seems more competitive than the first assault rifle when you start (which reading the above posts, seems to be unanimous that it sucks). I guess i am doing fine, my ten game KD ratio average seems to be floating between 1.4 to 1.7. Probably winning six out of ten games, but with no stats.....more on that. .... Which leads me to this. BO4's MP really has nothing new or original. Slower TTK's is newer/newish, but blah. Same shitty specialist system (i don't like it). Specialist system is training wheel kill devices that are stupid. Tripwires, dogs, rollerballs that stun, etc...Come on, this is Mario-Cart six year old shiit. And I guess some tweaks to how Dom plays capping flags. This isn't worth $60 or whatever i payed. Why not do something truly new? Dump the silly unlock system. It's 2019. Why do we still have this antiquated system still? And yes, i know it helps trick people into 'grinding'...but why does a game still have to rely on grinding in the year 2019? Be done with it. I fuking despise this anymore. I'm also not sure I'm buying into the whole 'NO LEADERBOARDS' or no stats thing either. As someone who pounded the table for well over a decade about CoD's over-reliance on the KD ratio, I suppose i should be cheering up front with how this game just shat on stats entirely. But did it go to far? Playing Dom solo, i feel like there's no real point to even trying to win. Why? Nothing counts or matters it seems. There's no point to trying to win, and it seems that's how the games play out. We basically seem to have a dozen or so game modes, all of which are just pointless diversions as the only REAL goal of BO4, of all the game modes, is just to play enough games to level up your weapons. Then rinse/repeat when you 'prestige' to get a silly new icon which is pretty much incomprehensible from the next. This is fun? I like the purity of PUBG or Blackout. Win the game. Done. This still doesn't exist in BO4 multiplayer. Even with no stats now, a completely opposite situation from before, it's still shitty gameplay. Most of the players are still just playing for pointless kills. I want something to play for. Something that shows me i am improving. Why can't we have stats AND game modes where everyone is on the same page. This isn't THAT hard to do.
