I’m still around too, just been a looooong time since I’ve checked in. I’ve been on PC almost exclusively for about a year and a half now, but still jump over to Xbox occasionally (mostly to avoid pvp cheaters in trials).

Not essential at all. No pay-to-win stuff in them, just cosmetics. You can also purchase everything with in-game currency as far as I can tell, apart from a couple store-exclusive weapon skins. I still don't like it because lootboxes are fucking stupid in general, but it's one of the better implementations I've seen.

I'm so far away from doing Forge... I think I'm up to around 570 LL. Haven't done any Nightfalls or Raiding. Just can't convince myself to do LFG, and The100 hasn't had much that fits my schedule. I’m at 650 and still haven’t done any year 2 raids if that makes you feel any better. The game is at a point where there’s generally more to do in a week than I have time for.

Izanami pulse totally replaced my outlaw+rampage go figure and right side of wrong. I got one with a low zoom sight, drop mag, zen moment, and rampage. It’s a beast for PvE.

Feel free to turn in all your planetary tokens, they just give you vendor rep and have otherwise been removed from the game. Anything that used to give planetary tokens gives planetary mats instead now. Gunsmith parts can be turned in as well for randomly rolled guns, but I’d recommend saving 50 or so in case you want to pull something out of the collections tab. Exotics take 7 parts if I recall correctly, legendaries and blues take 2 or 3.

Sounds like you’ve got the right idea, Mal. Just keep doing campaign stuff, public events, etc. and you’ll hit 50 fairly quickly. Most of the stuff that used to be milestones on the left side of the director screen have been changed to challenges that can be found in many locations in the director, all with a flashing yellow icon. I think you have to hit level 50 for all of them to show up, but I’m not exactly sure on that given you don’t have Forsaken yet. I definitely recommend getting it once you’re caught up a bit more.

I’m on pretty often, Mal. Usually 9 - midnight central or thereabouts. If you enjoyed Taken King, you’ll enjoy Forsaken as much, if not more.

As someone who’s been with Destiny since the D1 beta, I will say with confidence that right now Destiny is the best it’s ever been. Forsaken, to me, is the Taken King on steroids. The new dungeon and exotic quests released yesterday only cemented that further. If that makes me sound like Datto or some other Destiny YouTuber, so be it, it’s the truth.
If you have any doubts, find Skill Up’s hour long review and watch that. He’s been more critical of D2 for longer than anyone. When all the major reviewers were giving D2 8/10 or better at launch and everyone was in the first month honeymoon phase, he was already calling the game shit and a big step down from D1. If Forsaken is good enough to win him over, you can trust that it’s really damn good.

Since update 2.0 launches today, I figure it's time to update with my "2nd era" of D2 PvP stats. During this period, I racked up another 9132 kills, 3214 assists, and 6955 deaths, so a 1.31 k/d ratio. A decent but not huge improvement vs my "launch era" stats. Current totals are now 14792 kills, 4968 assists, 11526 deaths, 1.28 k/d.

Something else to keep an eye out for is the blue hand cannon Azimuth DSU. It’s 110 rpm with kill clip. Currently it can two tap only very low resilience opponents in the crucible while kill clip is active, but once the Forsaken TTK changes hit, it should be able to two tap pretty consistently. Obviously it’ll get outclassed once you get a legendary to drop with kill clip, but this looks to be a solid choice in the meantime. Not a “must have” by any means, but something that could be useful temporarily at least.

It’s outclassed by Baligant and Deadpan Delivery as far as slower ROF shotties go. Fallout did some extensive testing on all shotguns when private matches dropped.

Excellent list! Pretty sure you meant Badlands mk.24 on the "spam shotguns" section, but otherwise I'm with you 100% on all of these. One addition you might consider is the Proelium FR3 fusion rifle -- with liquid coils it's the fastest charging 5 bolt kill fusion, plus it has great handling (for a fusion) and snapshot. You can definitely catch people off guard with the fast charge when everyone's so used to going up against Main Ingredient all the time. I'll also suggest The Wizened Rebuke as an alternative to Shock and Awe. It has better base stats but lesser perks and sights (IMO) than S&A, but still does the Plan C thing well. I don't think one is necessarily better than the other. Finally, you're missing the single shot grenade launchers (Orewing's Maul) entirely, and they're arguably the strongest power weapons in the game for PvP right now.

Uhhh...yeah. Those are all the most POPULAR DPS weapons for every challenging activity in the game. Throw cluster bomb rockets into the mix too, which are as strong now as they were at launch. The "nerf everything popular" thing really isn't a thing with D2 is all I'm saying.

Somebody obviously hasn’t played or even kept up with the game since Warmind came out. If you saw the damage numbers weapons like Darci, Ikelos shotgun and sniper, Sleeper Sim, Tractor Cannon, Suros, and Rat King are capable of, I think you’d jump off the “Bungie nerfs everything” train pretty quick. Actually now that I think about it, I'm not too sure Bungie has nerfed anything in D2. Striker pulse grenades, Nightstalker's class skill, High Calibre rounds spring to mind immediately. Only for PvP, weren't they? I should've specified I was talking about PvE. There have been a few nerfs for PvP, but no "we're gonna hammer this into the ground until it's unusable" stuff.

Wow. I’m not sure that I can adequately express how much it pains me to read that. My wife’s family recently lost a good friend to stage 4 cancer, so this really hits home. All the best to you IW, I know you’ll give it a hell of a fight.

Random rolls for PvE? Whatever, don't care. Random rolls for PvP? That's a problem. Does nobody remember how awful the D1 god roll Eyasluna/Felwinter's/Grasp/etc chase was? If they're going D1-style random, they have to include some way to reroll. Make it expensive, limit it to a certain number of times each reset, but at least make it reasonable to get the best version of a weapon without an absurd amount of RNG and potential time investment.

Reveal stream was next level hype. Basically every change I've wanted to see was mentioned at some point. Kind of worried about what PvP is going to play like, but I'm sure I'll get by, and Gambit looks pretty cool IMO. I personally have no issue with the $40 price tag for Forsaken, assuming it's on par with or better than TTK, which I think it's shaping up to be. The extra $30 for the annual pass I'm not so sure about, have to see more details on that.

LOL. The event is clearly not balanced correctly for three "highly skilled and coordinated" players when it takes 8 hours for 3 of the best PvE players in the world to clear it, and that's against what has been the easiest final boss so far. Other players in the world are 100% required unless you are literally god-tier at the game and have a ton of time to commit to a run.

25% extra XP the rest of the week. That was a big deal when trying to level up weapons and armor before they introduced leveling with motes.

That’s really two separate issues though. Light level disadvantages are only a problem for a couple weeks after a new content drop, so maybe 5 or 6 weeks a year. The nightfall thing was a problem every reset, and it really did make people feel like they had to do the nightfall before anything else because otherwise they were losing out.

The new raid lair is no joke. Recommended power of 370, final boss is 380 I believe. Streamers are getting crushed. One team almost beat it but wiped at the last second. Definitely nice to see some challenge back in the game.

Light level definitely means something when it comes to being able to have any kind of success in Escalation Protocol. Good luck going up against tons of 370 enemies when you're at 345. I assume the same thing will apply to the new raid lair as well. That said, I think the new max is 380 (385 with mods), so yeah, getting max probably isn't really a necessity either. As long as you meet or exceed the power level of the enemies you're up against, you're good to go.

Played this for about 9 hours yesterday. Impressions so far? Story was pretty meh, campaign length was once again a joke, just like CoO. I finished the campaign in 2.5 hours and that was with time wasted in the tower, doing public events, and an adventure. Pretty crap, to be honest. I think there were 5 missions total. One of those has you go back to a lost sector on Earth, and 2 more are reused as the "new" strikes. The only actual new strike is a PS4 exclusive, go figure. There are 4 new adventures, I think, and after you finish them you're able to go back and replay them in a heroic version which gives you key fragments for something but I don't know what yet. Need 7 but I've only gotten 2 so far. Not much in the way of new weapons or armor, there are some but not nearly as many as there should be, mostly reskins again. There are a bunch of collectibles and such to go find with some lore attached, so that's a nice change at least, and some of them are pretty tricky to get to. Nice for the explorers out there, plus there are some cool rewards attached to collecting everything. Escalation Protocol, the big wave based horde mode they hyped up, isn't remotely doable at my power level even with 4 or 5 other people, so no impressions on that yet. Seems like it should be cool though. The new raid lair doesn't release until Friday so no idea on that yet either. If I had to put a score on it right now, it's a 6.5/10. If EP and the raid lair are really good it could move up to a 7, but the short campaign and threadbare story just really drag things down IMO. I felt CoO was a 5 or 5.5 at best for comparison, so this is an improvement, but not a huge one.
There are a bunch of other changes too, but they're part of season 3 so you get them whether you buy Warmind or not. New exotic weapons and armor, exotic weapon masterworks and rebalancing, ranked crucible, private matches, vendor progression, a new way to potentially get stuff you want from Eververse called the prismatic matrix, heroic strikes with modifiers, new nightfall modifiers for your challenge card, new ornaments to earn, etc. There's a lot to do if you're interested in coming back, just be warned that Warmind doesn't offer a ton for your money.
