The video is kind of long winded with the unnecessary belligerence towards an unrelated game and a misplaced focus in regards to the class roles.
Anyway, here's my own long winded explanation of the basics and a few slightly more intermediate things.
First, short version.
THIS IS NOT AN INFANTRY FOCUSED GAMEDon't just leave the vehicle there, or someone with a brain will take it in your place.
That could be a good/bad thing depending on whose team he's on.
JOIN A SQUADSo what if you are socially inept? Make some friends, they'll spawn on you and you'll end up working together.
KNOW YOUR ROLEPut away your rifle for just a second... come on. Okay.
DROP AMMO ALL THE TIME.
KEEP GUYS ALIVE.
REPAIR YOUR VEHICLE AND ROCKET THOSE VEHICLES.
SPOT SPOT SPOT SPOT THROW SENSORS CALL IN A MORTAR.
FILL IN THE GAPSNobody cares that you were the first Recon on the hill. Use what the team needs... even if nobody else does.
You might just make some headway and feel good about yourself.
YOUR PRIMARY WEAPONAssault rifles are jacks of all trades, they'll work anywhere.
SMGs rock up close but are weak at a distance.
LMGs lose accuracy quick but you've got bullets to spare.
Sniper rifles are for people with GOOD AIM at long distances.
Shotguns are for people with GOOD AIM at close distances.
Semi-automatic rifles are for people with GOOD AIM at medium distances.
THE LAWS OF NATUREYour shots arc a bit. They don't drop immediately but they drop pretty quick after a while, you can aim right on the guy on for fifty or so meters.
Bullets will spray all over the place unless you are standing still. Take a third of a second to let the gun settle.
THE TRACER DARTThis thing sticks to a bad guy vehicle and Engineers can look at the little orange square to lock on to it for a quick kill.
C4 EXPLOSIVESLook dude, seriously. Stop being a Shotgun Recon if you're gonna run in with the intent of ninja'ing the MCOM.
Pick Assault with a shotgun so you can get more C4. Oh yeah, and C4 is pretty good at toppling buildings.

Long version.

THIS IS NOT AN INFANTRY FOCUSED GAME or
"THIS IS NOT AN INFANTRY FOCUSED GAME."First and foremost, the real "classes" in the Battlefield series of games has always been vehicles. Infantrymen can accomplish very little alone.
Vehicles exist for a reason and anyone with practical sense can give reason to their existence.
The presence of even one vehicle (and a skilled operator behind the wheel) can turn the tide in a battle or keep it in your favor.
This includes Squad Deathmatch, the king of the hill owns the tank.
Using the vehicles is simple.
Using the vehicles
properly is a matter of experience, the knowledge that it is not a suit of armor - they require a very different approach than being a foot soldier.
The heavy vehicle types require that you take it easy - maintain distance from the enemy, support and be protected by nearby infantry.
Tanks should be just behind the front line, suppressing the enemy, NOT in enemy territory where anyone can walk up and destroy it (let alone STEAL it).
They lack the speed to react to attacks from more than one angle, so they should stay out of such situations.
Helicopter tactics involve rising from cover and attacking from a distance; it is not a bomber, flying over or near the enemy will only put you at risk.
The further you are from the enemy, the more time you have to react and evade while raining down fire.
The helicopter does not have twitch handling, you need all the time you can get. You also need gunners.
The ATV and JetSki may be fast, but that is no reason to ride out in the open through the enemy; you can't outrun bullets.
Take the long way around - the less they see of you, the more of a surprise it will be when you attack their flank.
The Humvee and Vodnik have multiple seats. Using it as a fast mobile spawn point for your squad is ideal.
Same as the smaller vehicles, these can not take abuse and should stay outside of the core fighting area.
Also very important, the mounted machine gun is a
very effective but underplayed anti-air weapon.
-----
JOIN A SQUAD or "Mi amigo es su amigo!"
It doesn't matter if you don't have any friends. Join a squad and the teamwork will naturally follow.
When a player in a squad is all alone at the front lines, those other three people will want to be all over that.
When they're in, a bizarre phenomenon often occurs - the players will stick together to stay alive, and soon enough... actually work together.
Join a squad, make the briefest of allies, win the battle.
-----
KNOW YOUR ROLE or "Your very important toys."
The
Assault Class role is ammo.
Rule of thumb is that "everyone always needs more ammo".
If there's some guy jumping in your face and yelling something in Russian,
you aren't doing your job.
It should be habitual to throw boxes at any allies you come across.
It takes a while for players to have their explosives resupplied, so be a little patient, let those points come to you and ammo go to them.
The
Medic Class role is health.
Assault does not have a bunch of obvious indicators as to when someone needs ammo. The Medic has no excuse.
If the little health bar of a guy next to you is not full,
you aren't doing your job.
If there are allies in need of resuscitation and you can get there to revive them without risk, GET THERE.
The
Engineer Class role is vehicles, both friendly and hostile.
The RPG-7 is as much your primary weapon as your SMG. Combined with the Tracer Dart, the RPG-7 is vehicle bane.
If there are enemy vehicles harassing your spawn and you still have rockets,
you aren't doing your job.
The Engineer is the ideal class to operate a vehicle. Jumping out (IN A SAFE LOCATION) when necessary to repair the vehicle.
When assisting another teammate, there needs to be communication between Engineer and driver, else the Engineer could be left in the dust and in the open.
The
Recon Class role is information. "Information?" you may ask. Why yes!
The Recon rifles and Mortar Binoculars offer great zoom ranges and the ability to deliver decisive blows to the enemy infantry or ground vehicle.
He even has these neat sensor balls that he can throw far out to light up enemies.
If the enemy location is not clarified and the enemy themselves not ducking under fire,
you aren't doing your job.
While all classes should constantly spot all enemies, the Recon has the greatest potential for spotting very distant enemies and eliminating them in the next moment.
The Mortar targeting reticule can lock on to moving vehicles, tracking them somewhat. A direct hit from one shell can decimate even a tank.
-----
FILL IN THE GAPS or "Square peg in a diamond hole."
You just happened to join a server full of the elite of the elite Recon "snipers". You are one too? No way!
Guess what, you aren't getting anywhere like that, especially when that tank is spawnkilling you.
Pick the class and equipment that the situation requires. Don't be a "specalist", learn how to do everything, branch out.
You may find something you like that you never tried before.
Anyway, nine out of ten players will be ignorantly stubborn about what they're doing.
"Oh, I'm going to stay just like this; SOMEONE ELSE should totally switch classes if we need it so badly!"
Don't be those guys - be number one! The one that can
diversify!
-----
YOUR PRIMARY WEAPON or "Your one shiny toy."
There are six types of weapons that take up the primary slot.
- Assault Class Rifle
The all-around weapon, equipped with a grenade launcher with a small blast radius for destroying cover and neutralizing enemies.
Anything it can do, another weapon can do better, but that won't stop it from doing anything well.
- Engineer Sub Machine Gun
Often a low power, high speed weapon, with a few slower, more powerful versions in the lot.
Though it has a bit less recoil than any other weapon class, its low long range damage makes it ineffective for long range shooting.
At point blank range, the damage bests the other automatics, more killing power per shot, fewer shots needed.
- Medic Light Machine Gun
This class has the greatest variations of damage, rate of fire and recoil. The only constant is a large magazine and long reload.
Most have a bit more recoil than the other classes, let loose or fire in very short bursts - both will work, one will use more ammo.
No, sustained fire will not improve accuracy; this isn't 2142.
- Recon Sniper Rifle
A mishmash of powerful single shot and rapid semi-automatic scoped rifles.
These weapons make the effects of gravity most apparent - shots of 100+ meters will require the shooter to aim high.
The effects of bullet drop are exaggerated, but you gotta deal with it.
- All Kit Shotgun
Chambered with buckshot, shotguns are capable of a one shot stopper at point blank range.
With slugs, all of the power is condensed into a single projectile, but you aren't likely to get a one shot kill without it being a headshot.
Note that the slug is heavily affected by gravity compared to other bullets.
- All Kit Semi-Automatic Rifle
The M14, G3 and M1 Garand. Think of them as the rapid Recon rifles without a scope.
A compromise between power and capacity. The weapon of choice for front line marksmen.
-----
THE LAWS OF NATURE or "What goes up must be shot down."
Rounds are affected by gravity, the level of drop is not close to the real deal.
Rounds travel and take a moment to reach their target, the speed is averaged amongst all weapons, but believable.
That is to say: you aren't going to be arcing your shots over hills and you don't need to lead by more than a foot ahead of the enemy.
When a player moves, the weapon gains a small amount of random spread.
This applies
even when you have your weapon sighted.
Unless the enemy is right in front of you, ready to take you out, you should pause for just a moment to take a shot... from cover.
Otherwise, it is up to chance that you will hit the intended target.
-----
THE TRACER DART or "You really don't need that pistol."
Unless you intend to jump into the thick of the enemy spawn and fight foes at all angles nonstop, you should always have enough time to reload.
For Assault, the Tracer Dart is a desirable piece of equipment as he can reload his rifle quickly and would not have ammo problems.
Other classes could do with a sidearm, but even then, the Dart is something to consider.
The function of the Tracer Dart is to help out your fellow Engineers.
Once a vehicle is tagged, the Engineer aims his RPG at the orange square on the vehicle until a range appears under it.
At this point, the Engineer can fire anywhere he wants and the rocket will zero in on said vehicle.
Tagging and allies using that tag gives you points, come on - you know you want points!
-----
C4 EXPLOSIVES or "Big gift, small package."
The C4 Explosive has the most powerful explosive blast radius in the game.
Remote detonation, strategic placement and structural damage make C4 the most "outside the box" thinking weapon.
Now... While the C4 is default to the Recon Class, it really doesn't belong there.
Instead, if you want to really put C4 to use, use the Assault Class with one of the All Kit weapons to replace his rifle.
Combining devastating explosives with the ability to get MORE explosives is a win-win.
(Assault is the guy to use for all these neat secondary toys, huh?)
