#1 Can infantry set them off by walking over them?
#2 How many can I lay down at once? (Like with C4, you can plant a max of 6, and anymore than that and they start disappearing)
#3 How many does it take to destroy a heavy tank?
#4 Can I toss them in water (to damage boats)?
#5 How long do they last? (I've seen they last even after you die -- do they ever disappear?)

#1, No, but they can shoot to detonate them.
#2, six.
#3, one is usually enough (both C4 and AT Mines deliver 290 damage, multiplied by 3.5 against vehicles), but sometimes it will take it as forward damage, so you'll need two.
#4, maybe? ...Nope, they sink.
#5, AT mines will last until they are detonated or the owner drops more elsewhere.

i have one too:
back in battlefield 1942 engineers could "defuse" mines by using the tool...are there any other means to dispose of mines then to blow them up?

About #5: Can I throw down 6 AT mines, die, switch classes with a different tool -- and they AT mines will still be there?

Would using the extra explosives damage spec make it so only one is needed, even if counted as a frontal hit?

To combine the above question with my question: If I lay down 6 AT-mines with the explosive spec..
then die and change classes...
Will those AT-mines still have the extra explosive firepower?

ONE AT takes out any vehicle near it. It's bloody powerful, and one is enough to take out ANY tank without any added damage.
Interestingly, kills are always awarded to the placer for both C4 and AT mines, meaning that if an enemy shoots one and kills himself, you get the kill -- or worse, when an enemy shoots a mine and kills a teammate of yours, you get a teamkill.
Finally: A mine-field is prone to blow up all at once in BC2. Which can yield interesting effects if a squad of 4 have placed a total of 24 mines on a spawn and one of them blow up.
Finally: Mines need time to trigger: If you're followed by a tank or hummer, you can NOT toss a mine and have it blow it up. It takes perhaps as much as 10 seconds for it to be able to blow stuff up. (I learned this the hard way, by beeing driven over by tanks and hummers with TWO mines between me and the vehicle in narrow passages, multiple times)

Ah now I know why tank didn't blow up when I sneaked behind it, threw 2 mines there and went jumping in from of it and it drove right over em. Anyways, if you place a mine, can your team mate explode it by shooting and get you suicide?

Is there a way to tell if a mine is enemy or friendly? They have the IFF system so they don't go off on friendly vehicles, but when I see a mine I don't know if I should shoot it because an enemy dropped it down or leave it alone because it will blow up an enemy vehicle at some point.

You can't spot the mines if it's friendly. I believe the flashing green box as an identifier (like with C4) also doesn't appear if it's an enemy mine.
