Which is better in general?
I am heavily leaning towards Magnum Ammo, because Marksman doesn't reduce recoil, and I'm not sure how much spread affects my ironsight shots.

Depends on the gun.
Some guns benefit more from Marksman - M16, PP2000, M60...
In general, however, most guns benefit more from Magnum. But that doesn't mean that Magnum is better than the Marksmen attachments.

the way i look at it is the faster it shoots the less it needs magnum.

I always prefer magnum or accuracy, because I prefer better stopping power at close range (something the marksman spec doesn't do) and I don't find any of the weapons to be inaccurate enough that the accuracy benefit is all that incredible.

i go for magnum mostly too (i check dens chart in advance though to check if it makes any sence), since i carefully burst all my weapons i never reach the maximum cone size anyway and marksman would be of no use for me..
€dit: keep in mind one thing though: i only play HC; people fall over a lot quicker in HC, thus the need for sustained fire is a lot smaller. my argument probably is invalid in SC, where you need a lot of bullets very fast to kill the other guy...

If you play HC, I think it's more worth it to use the marksman spec. The M16 is an obvious example where the magnum ammo spec would be useless on HC.
