thanks for the sleuthing, i'll update because honestly, this list has been around perhaps too long.
unfortunately i won't be able to add you back because, while i've still got the game/system/subscription, i haven't been able to get on xbl for a long time. since i moved to japan anyways. if i can get a wireless whatever thing then i should be able to.

If you get a router that you can install DD-WRT or possibly tomato firmware on then you can turn it into a wifi adapter. Check their webpages first, though, because they only support some routers and not others. DD-WRT seems to support a LOT more, but it's kinda a pain. Tomato is supposed to be more user friendly, but I haven't used it.
I have used DD-WRT though. Once you've got it installed the process to change it to client-bridge mode isn't difficult.
Then again, didn't they reduce the price of the wifi adapter? *shrug* Not sure which would be easier for you to get ahold of.
PS. I accept no responsibility for you bricking your router if you scew up the firmware update. ;p

lol, well lets see.. i'll start at the beginning. my company got me a place that rents out furnished apartments, very cheap and quality shit in here. they gave me a small hd tv and free internet, but they also gave me a login that i have to use to get online. that works fine on the pc but i couldn't get it to work on the xbox. and there's only one cable (coming out of the wall no less) so i had one chance to try to get the xbox online before i'd have to unplug it and yank it back through the hole in the desk and back into my laptop to look for another suggestion.
recently i got a little gizmo for about 10 dollars.. plugs into a usb slot and turns my laptop into a wireless router. so.. now the problem is that my xbox doesn't pick up wireless. it's an older one.. and since i'm in japan i'm not sure if i'll be able to pick up anything for it.

hmm... Sounds like all you may really need is to buy a real wifi router and plug the xbox into it directly. That is if you can get the router to login. Otherwise I guess you do what you're doing so the laptop logs in then shares the internet with it's local network and for that you will need the xbox wifi adapter or a router set to client-bridge mode for it to connect.
Either way it sounds like getting a wifi router could do the job even if getting the official xbox wifi adapter proves difficult. I think the only thing I'd really worry about is the firmware being all in Japanese, but since you'd be replacing the firmware anyway I doubt it would be too big a problem. You really only have to interact with the firmware a little to update it with the new third party stuff, and then it would all be in English for sure. Not sure what routers cost in Japan... can't be more than here I'd imagine... But if you plan to try that do your research first.
Then again I'm no expert. There's prolly some other bro with a brilliant and possibly cheaper scheme.

Just posting in here to let people know I'm still active, and I have no one to play (Black Ops) with except my brother, who is pretty good as well, so if you want to play with me you're automatically upgraded to 3 people. It's not split screen so don't worry; separate consoles. I'm also getting MW3 so it'd be good to have some people to play that with.

I've turned down a lot of bro requests and I apologize for that. Usually it's been when I was going to watch Netflix or play something else, or already had a party. Though I try to merge parties when I can. (They really should make it easier to merge parties, it's kind of a pain.)
I also didn't play BO for several months. Getting back to it now and just prestiged. ;3 I might be getting MW3 on PC... maybe... dunno yet.
Steam name is mannonc, though. (Don't yet have any games on my account, though.)

but back to the topic of me being in japan.. so i got my xbox online and played some mw2 and black ops.. does it make sense that black ops seemed a lot more laggy than mw2?
and another thing: when i started working on this i didn't know jack about steam or whatever but i've since then gotten steam and some games yadda yadda. point being i changed the "ID" column to "Steam ID," but is there any reason to keeping the Game ID in there? is there a way to play online without using steam? just want the pc section to work smoothly..

I found Black Ops to feel more laggy then MW2. Others have noticed this also.
Steam ID is a must to start Parties from Steam Friends-list. As far as I am aware, CoD titles are Steam-exclusive on PC.

You can certainly mark me for MW3, just fired up the xbox for the first time sine around March so my skills are not too hot at the moment and I don't tend to play more than a few games in a sitting, but groups are better than solo.
