Yeah I've started to get on this G3 bandwagon recently. I'm not maining it all day all the time or anything (still can't make myself use an all-kit gun on engi or medic) but jesus that thing has power, what a beast. Started off using it on Cold War when I didn't just want to join the shotgun party all day but didn't want to automatically lose any engagement under 20 metres.
Also I don't see a lot of talk on these so I have to ask, how do you guys feel about 12g slugs? When I was trying to play recon but hating sniping, I used a slug saiga. Basically just like the other semi autos, only with totally clean sights. Fine or w/e and I had a lot of fun with it but never really use it now. But the pump actions with slugs I have been using loads recently...they just seem incredible? I mean they suffer in high-pressure fights against groups of guys, and their hipfire is surprisingly awful, but on the whole I'm not sure there is a gun I do better with in 1on1s. I use these a lot more than sniper rifles now...what's everyone else's mileage?
The G3 is my go-to gun for defensive Assault. The only downside the G3 has is a somewhat poor ammo supply, which Assault fixes. There are times I miss having the tube, but having infinite C4 is arguably better. And I die a little inside every time I see a sight on the G3. It has the best irons in the game (especially for long range), and people have to go and ruin it.
Assault -AEK: easily controllable AND consistent -XM8: huge power, easy recoil, but iffy sights -F2000:high fire rate, good recoil, and amazing hip fire, but slow TTK -AUG: sadly outclassed by the XM8 -AN-94: long range master -HK416: jack of all trades M16: long range master that can be spammed
Engineer -9a91: out snipe everyone -SCAR: like the 9a91 but it helps if you crouch -XM8C: the best Close range weapon in game -Ak74u: slightly better at range than the XM8 -UZI: no recoil AND amazing sights -PP2k: no recoil, and a huge magazine
Medic -PKM: instant killer -SAW: best weapon in game -T88: spray and pray -m60: -XM8: low recoil and good power -MG36: xm8 with a free red dot -MG3: unlimited fire rate
Recon -Bolt actions: long range wonders, only differ by aesthetics - SVU: you are a ninja -VSS: finally worthy of BF2142 -M95: chopper killer
All kit -M14: turns everyone into a sniper -G3: close range master -Pump shotties: switch to your pistol and back, no pump - Semi-shotties:Spam -thompson: like a smg, but loud pistols -M9: jack of all trades -grach: huge capacity, fire rate, and good power -M1911: 2 hit kill and a good fire rate -REX: the one shot wonder -M93: so many bullets, sadly they all missed

UMP doesn't need a review. It's that good. Okay fine...
AEK: 4/5 Fast, accurate, powerful. Jack of all trades XM8: 5/5 Great damage, okay recoil. Overall the best. F2000: 3/5 Good at CQC, but overall outclassed by AEK. AUG: 2/5 Not good for anything. The AR for hipsters. AN-94: 3/5 An XM8 for people who can't burst properly. HK416: 4/5 An XM8 for people who aren't as accurate. M16: 3/5 An AEK for people who can't burst properly.
9A91: 3/5 Great power, poor ammo supply. SCAR: 3/5 Slightly worse 9A with more ammo. XM8C: 4/5 Great up close, lackluster at range. It's a true SMG. AK74u: 3/5 Slightly worse XM8C, but still reliable. Uzi: 4/5 Laser accurate aimed and hipfired. PP2000: 4/5 Slightly worse Uzi with more ammo. UMP: 5/5 High damage and super accurate. Easily the best.
PKM: 5/5 The king of damage output. Just don't get caught reloading. SAW: 4/5 Mediocre damage, but great suppressing power and accuracy. T88: 3/5 Good for sustained fire and little else. Sadly outclassed. M60: 3/5 The pig has been neutered. Still usable, but nothing special. XM8: 3/5 Average at everything. Great for obsessive reloaders. MG36: 4/5 XM8 with the best sights in the game. MG3: 3/5 PP2000 with extra ammo. I hope you like reloading.
M24: 4/5 Overall great. Sway only affects bad snipers. T88: 4/5 Great damage output. Best suited for close and medium range. SV98: 4/5 M24 with extra ammo. SVU: 5/5 T88 with silencer. King of marksman rifles. GOL: 4/5 M24 for girly men. VSS: 5/5 SMG on steroids. Low recoil allows spray sniping as well as CQC dominance. M95: 3/5 The gimmick sniper. Okay for body shots, but too slow overall.
M1A1: 3/5 Unsilenced SMG. Average and unremarkable. M14: 4/5 T88 without a scope. Good ranged solution for non-Recons. G3: 5/5 Huge power. Dominates for anyone who can control the recoil. 870: 3/5 Buckshot is powerful, but unreliable. Slugs are gimmicky snipers. Okay on smaller maps or on highly aggressive players. SAIGA: 4/5 Powerful, reliable. Dominates anything within range. SPAS: 2/5 The 870's fat cousin. The shotgun for hipsters. USAS: 4/5 SAIGA for people who can't click fast. NS2000: 3/5 The 870's muscular, athletic cousin.
M9: 4/5 Jack of all trades. The perfect sidearm. Grach: 5/5 High fire rate, great damage. Excellent for CQC, great for medium as well. M1911: 4/5 The best handgun for accurate players. Make every shot count. Rex: 2/5 Too slow when the 1911 exists. Usable, but outclassed. M93: 1/5 The Grach's special needs brother. Great at knifing range, terrible everywhere else.

The AUG is one of those guns I just can't use. I love the way it looks and theoretically it's pretty powerful up close, but I've never been able to do well with it. For some reason I'm not as accurate with its irons. I hate Red Dots by nature and I hate the Red Dot in this game more, so that's out of the question. The ACOG is usable, but the terrible damage at range makes it an illogical choice: not to mention I'll never use an AR without the grenade spec.
There's really no reason to use it, and it's hard to think of any good ideas to make it better. I think it should have a 42 round magazine. That would help it stand out without being too powerful.
The AUG's standard magazines are either 30 or 42. I would've just suggested a simple 10 round increase, but since 42 is a real standard, you might as well go for that. I agree that it's a random number though. Although I'm no gun nerd, so for all I know 42 makes more sense than 40 or 45 when it comes to magazines.

AUG for me is a gun that on paper looks like it would suck, but I like it quite a lot. I think it's the stuff like the hipfire/zmov (these are decent, right?) that are benefitting me more than you'd guess just from looking.
probaddie: Yeah. And the direction your point of aim is kicked in is exactly the compass direction from which you were shot. Total deflection in degrees is damage * bg_viewKickScale. The time to recover (no matter the amount of kick) is 0.5 seconds.
