ok here's my newbie question.
can anyone explain the sniper scope "glint" mechanism in-depth? i read somewhere that if you have a scope stationary for more than a few seconds you get a scope glint. i don't know if that's true or not, but i'll use it as a starting point. does anyone know:
- if you're not stationary (i.e. strafing left and right and/or looking around with the mouse) do you get the glint? - is it dependent on whether you're looking through the scope? - how long does it take to get the glint? - how long does it take for the glint to go away? - can the glint be seen only if the scope is pointed right at you or can it be seen from all frontal angles? - are all optics susceptible to the glint effect (including RDS/KOBRA/HOLO), only "scopes" (including ACOG, PK-A, rifle scope 6x etc), or just "sniper scopes" (7x 8x 12x etc)
thanks

what i read is that it glints whenever you are zoomed. instantly. no matter the movement. (would be kind of pointles if recons could just strafe bacl and forth 2 feet) only concerns scopes of 7,5x magnification and larger. the glint is only visible if the rifle is roughly pointed into your general direction.
only read that though, haven't tested it. so it might not be 100% accurate.

Seems the most logical. I have seen snipers zoomed in (presumably, they were shooting down-field) but at a perpendicular angle to me and there was no glint until I moved WAY towards parallel out in front of their scope. Conversely, I have spotted a sniper, watched him un-zoom, move, poke his head up, and zoom, and there was instantly scope-glare.

thanks guys! interesting if you can get away with using the rifle scope (6x) without giving yourself away.

not sure about that, i only know that acogs don't produce glint. and this odd 7,5 or whatever does. you might have to try it out.

ah, i'd test it if any of my friends had good enough computers for this game in the meantime i'll just try to note the optics on the killcam. also i didn't notice at first that there are at least two optics with the name rifle scope, 6x (can be unlocked for the m16a4) and 8x (default on the mk11 mod 0). the svd comes with the PKS-07 (7x) which i'm sure produces a glint.

I still wish scopes didn't glint at all. It would be nice to use the Rifle Scope on regular weapons or even the 870, but it's not worth the risk. I'd rather just use ACOG than literally 'flash' a message to my target saying, "Hey bro, I'm going to start shooting you know. And just so you know, here's my exact position in case you want to shoot back."

I read somewhere that any scope above 4x will have the glint, however only whilst zoomed in and looking in the enemies general direction as Kathinka previously mentioned.

thx again for the help.
newbie stuff vol 2: I can't get out of a ground vehicle unless I'm in the driver/#1 seat. if im manning am achine gun or whatever I can't get out. in a pinch I have hit f1 to switch seats then jumped out when my vehicle was disabled, but if the driver is still in theres nothing I can do, I'm trapped. is this by design or am I using the wrong key bind to exit the vehicle? (I'm using "switch vehicle" I think, not sure.)
edit: eh, seems like my forward key works for getting out of the vehicle from the secondary/tertiary seat in most cases.
