Maybe it's just me(although I doubt it), but the parachute in BF3 seems really hard to control compared to previous games. I've also experienced a few times where I've ejected quite low to the ground and thought I had deployed the parachute in time but still committed suicide.
So is there any particular technique that's now required to guide the parachute or is it just pretty much a roll of the dice as to where you're going to land?
Oh, and also, You are my bro, bro.

Left and right movement controls steer. You can look around, but I don't think that affects where you will end up. Also not sure, but holding back makes you move forward slower.
Really, if you want to land on a building roof, the best approach is to circle the outer edge of it and try to aim for the center. Usually, I end up overshooting if I try to land on a building straight on, and it also makes you an easier target.
Playing on PS3 btw.

I felt that holding back actually slows you down and holding forward speeds up your descent. But IDK bro

I seem to be confused by the parachute controls. When I jump off a building or bridge I always seem to suicide, even though I swear I'm hitting the parachute control. Am I just being too slow, or am I actually turning off the parachute by selecting (it was already selected)? I think in bfbc2 you had to wait a split second before doing it and maybe that's messing me up.

I've never had any trouble, aside from turning being more picky. My main problem with parachutes is that I always take damage when I land, even if I'm not going fast. I'll have to try holding back and see if that helps.

i think they slowed down the parachute deploy so it's more "realistic" , meaning good bye to jumping off rooftops without breaking a leg BC2 had it right, it was darn useful from getting to ground level quickly, but it was obviously too cartoony for BF3's standards

I pretty much never make a big jump without losing 25% hp, even when I get the parachute out (can hear it deploy). I assumed that was intended to simulate the shock of hitting the ground even with a 'chute.
But at the same time, I feel the parachute can be badly affected by lag. I've suicided a few times off heights that I really thought were manageable, only to go to death-cam and see my empty parachute hovering over my crumpled body. To me, that's lag.

I do believe they have made it to make it more realistic certainly with the landing damage as in really life its not often you can a perfect smooth landing that doesnt hurt in some form. So i think its pretty good that they have put that in to be honest!
