I've never been a fan of 'time-to-kill'
I think it's pretty much a silly and irrelevant stat.

It is not an end all, but it can still be helpful sometimes. MW2 actually had really good weapon balance and TTK was less indicative of a gun's quality there (ex. Scar versus the TAR). However, Black Ops had terrible weapon balance and this was readily apparent by looking at the TTKs for all the guns.

I too have never been a big fan of TTK; always favoured accuracy over TTK.
The only time TTK becomes significant is when you come face to face with an enemy at close range, i.e. when you are unlikely to miss. And if you play in such a style that this happens often, a shotgun is the best choice in any case. In most other situations, recoil will make it likely that some bullets don't hit the mark.
I did some work on this in my stickied Black Ops recoil thread, producing plots showing the probability of getting a kill within a certain time when shooting at a torso at different ranges. But even this makes a lot of assumptions (enemy not moving etc).

First bullet doesn't contribute to TTK: TTK is the fire rate multiplied by the bullets needed to kill minus one. Umm.. what?

What he means is the Time To Kill or TTK is when you shoot, the 2nd bullet is when the time starts ticking. If a gun fires 1 bullet per second and takes 10 bullets to kill, the TTK would be 9 seconds

TTK = FireRate * (BulletsToKill -1)

TTK = FireRate * (BulletsToKill -1) So for example: CM901's TTK=666*(3-1)=1332 and Scar-L's TTK=750*(3-1)=1500 ? Still don't know how to convert that to seconds.

Fire rate, not rounds per minute. Fire rate equals 60/RPM.

Still don't know how to convert that to seconds. Cm901 RoF is 666rpm. 60 divided by 666 = ~.09 (the firerate in seconds) Take the firerate (.09 seconds) and times it by the number or hits to kill minus 1 since the first shot technically happens instantaneously. So the CM901 would be ~0.18 up close and ~0.27 at range. Of course if the actually firerates are different than what the guide and whatnot say, than the TTK will be different too
