So with the possible nerf of the exmags, what would be the best shotgun setup
Striker + grip + damage and Steady aim?

Extended Mags will still be the attachment of choice seeing as how every other one is useless or too much of a detriment (silencer). Don't forget that ExMags also gives you bonus ammo so if you don't plan on using Scav or Specialist you have extra shells.

Personally I see it as being able to use the Shotgun from an even longer range and not really needing a secondary weapon if you stick to your (extended) ranges. Meaning, with something like the SPAS12, you could carry a launcher or something like that as a secondary and be fine. Any secondary that can't make up for your shotgun's lack of range will limit your combat effectiveness. If you're fine with that, cool, but there's no avoiding it. Range is borderline useless on the SPAS-12 due to its low minimum damage, not to mention Damage stops you from getting during the pump because you didn't kill the target. Conversely, Damage almost totally outclasses Range on the Model 1887 due to the (relatively) high minimum Damage rendering Range virtually useless opposed to Damage, since the Damage Model 1887 can kill with one shot clear out to 17m and kill in as little as two shots if the pellets can still make contact with the target. Range is only arguably better on moderate or low damage shotguns that boast a higher rate of fire, such as the Striker or USAS. The AA-12's damage is so low that it's probably married to Damage since it seems likely IW/Sledgehammer will remove the ExMags glitch.

I just ran a search for shotgun+range to find out whether the proficiency actually increases the max travel distance of the pellets, and this does not seem to be the case. It it was, then Range on the AA12 would have been a no-brainer to me, but as it stands, I'll probably opt for damage on pretty much every shotgun. I'd rather have an ensured kill within my effective range than a possible kill at maximum distance.

Yes, the main benefit of Range is the 25% longer max damage range, which, depending on the shotgun, might offer a slightly longer OHKO range (especially with ExMags, where applicable)... however, this is at the expense of slightly less OHKOs, which strikes me as a poor trade.
The Striker is the only shotgun that can seemingly make any use of the 25% more minimum damage range, The AA-12 can make Range work, but once the ExMags glitch gets patched it'll be married to Damage.

if extended mags does get patched i dont think there wiill be a point of using shotguns anymore if they patch extended mags they should go ahead and patch all those other little gems like extended mags giving you less RoF

"If"? Emags is already patched (on Xbox, at least). Tested the Striker tonight & it's back down to 6 pellets w/ emags.
Now maybe IW will eventually get around to patching those outrageously overpowered handguns, right?

Unless there was a new patch, or I suddenly became extreme MLG pro, the spas wasnt patched yesterday.
Oh Dear God do I ever hope it already was tho. I mean... I was doing decent with it.

NOT nerfed on PS3.
Also:
AA12 and M1887 both have worse hipfire than the rest of shotguns, but the same when ADS.

Weird. I put three shots on a wall side-by-side last night and each showed only 6 pellets from a Striker w/ emags. Hmmm.....

Just tested in private and public matches, all shotties still have E-Mags effect. Clearly 9 pellets for Striker and 12 for Spas...

Maybe I just got three weird random shot dispersions in a row last time. Very strange.

Random spot to put it, but in Spec Ops, 8 rnd shotguns have 7 pellets and 6rnd ones 5

Because Tmartn is horrible at this: don't listen to him.
This is the same guy who said that TIs made you move faster than a pistol in Black Ops...when the player with the TI during the test had Lightweight.

Shotguns should work that way from my understanding
Range will be slightly better for a short distance.

TI = Tactical Insertion.
Also, Range is only better near the very end of a shotgun's range, a place where very few shotguns (ex. Striker) are viable. On pumps, the amounts of shots needed to ensure a kill is so high that you might as well forget it.
Less importantly, Damage is not rewarded via OMA while Range is.

Are we all confirmed on the stats in the spreadsheet? I thought there had been some discussion of the SPAS damage values or something, was waiting until that was sorted out. If the data in the spreadsheet is confirmed then I'll update the graphs when I have the chance.

So post patch... what are peoples thoughts on the best shotgun? Still the Striker? What about 2nd best, still the 1887 followed closely by the SPAS?
My anecdotal feeling is the above. But I prefer the SPAS, due to my fond memories of it in MW2.

IMO: Striker>USAS-12>SPAS-12>KSG-12>Model 1887>AA-12

Striker or USAS. Striker is infinitely more useable (just spam), but the USAS has substantial power and rewards skill, something the other shotguns don't do in similar proportion.

I feel like I get less OHKs with the USAS than the SPAS for some reason. I use steady aim but not damage, as I have not unlocked it yet on any shotgun.
