So I always assumed that the guns added spread by a static amount according to the stats of the gun regardless of what fire mode you have set. So for instance, firing a 3 round burst using the mode for that and firing a 3 round burst in auto mode would yeild the exact same results. But some people seem to think that the full auto mode adds more spread than the other modes. The only evidence they cite is in the recent patch notes that say weapons in "full auto" become less accurate quicker or something like that. But what is full auto meaning? Is it auto mode, or just "a substantial amount of consecutive bullets?"
I've always assumed spread per shot is static. But is it really?

This is people mis-interpreting information, and confirmation bias at work.
I'm sure you're already thinking this since you know what you're talking about (at least from what posts of yours I've read) but the patch just basically increased the rate that guns build up spread, forcing you to "burst" your fire to give the gun a chance to "settle" (sorry can't think of the technical terms right now and about to fall asleep) in between bursts.
I would be glad to be proven wrong however, for the sake of interesting guns!

Spread per shot is static, and it resets when you stop firing. That's why people think going full auto adds more spread, because since you don't stop firing while going full auto, you're not giving the spread an opportunity to reset.

As an added detail. It actually starts resetting be the decrease amount when you stop firing + 60/RPM seconds. So your M416 starts spread decrease by 11 when you stop firing plus (60/750=) 0,08 second. Which I think is all pretty much not noticeable but interests me a lot for no apparent reason. This is based on Bel's post: I know because we modded the game and tested it. If you hack a gun so that it fires once a second, your spread recovery is delayed by exactly one second. That's enough hard evidence to convince me, at least.

RPM is really good, because of this mechanic. In CoD, for example, a slower gun would recover more between shots and so be more accurate. Not so here because recovery is dependent on fire rate. It's actually kind of crazy how important fire rate is in this game.
