Is cooking a grenade possible? On the 360 I've never thought it possible, but I saw someone explaining that you can cook the grenades in BF3. I'm not sure if they were bull-sh*tting or not. Since I'm not in a position to test it and I haven't seen any information supporting or condemning the tip I am hoping someone here can clarify. I honestly think it sounds like a farce, a way to get someone killed who is throwing a nade. Anyways, they said that as soon as you press the nade button your suppose to hold the shoot button. To me this seems pretty vague and stupid, but it wasn't described as to whether or not this only works for PC or Console or both. I figure if it works for any it would be for PC, but I don't know... like I said, to me, it sounds untrue.

you don't cook it, you just delay throwing it. will still take as long as before to blow up after you release it

Okay, that makes more sense.

This is probably the biggest problem I have with BF3.

I don't know if it's purely the fact that you can't cook them or the fact that you can't simply hold down the Grenade button to delay the throwing... instead you have to press the Grenade button and hold your gun's firing button... how stupid is that? However, if I had to pick between a simply delay on the nade throw or the ability to cook a grenade, I'd choose the cooking ability for sure.

probably it's whole 'real military bros' vibe, sort of classic mistake they'd make a point of not doing

Demize has expressed that cooked nades don't really belong in BF3. It was a balance and playstyle decision. Nades would have been one of the most powerful explosives had they been cookable. I am just fine with having nades as not cookable.

i honestly find grenades to be pretty much completely useless, the delay on the explosion is so long...

i honestly find grenades to be pretty much completely useless, the delay on the explosion is so long... They're not for killing (although I definitely get a fair number of kills from using them), they're for area denial. Chuck a grenade down one hallway and defend the other. Grenade will greatly decrease the likelihood that people advance through it, leaving you to focus your efforts on the alternate approach. Just think of it as a mobile claymore that you can throw.

I find that my grenades only tickle enemies, yet an enemy grenade that's 20 feet away from me is an instant kill at 100 health. They also penetrate cover. Funny how that works. And the law of grenades says that any grenade you throw at a perfect angle that would be guaranteed death for the enemy, will instead bounce off of some invisible object and land back at your feet.

Once I threw a nade into a room and died by the explosion though the concrete wall. To clarify, the grenade didn't actually destroy the wall, but the damage passed through it. And yeah I agree, my grenades seem utterly useless a lot of the time even when thrown accurately.

Weird, I really don't die that often to them. I mean, I certainly don't feel that I've died anywhere near the 170 times I've killed with them? Different strokes for different folks I guess!

Yeah, grenades aren't really the death machines that they are in COD (not bringing that up as a pejorative, just for comparison). And I'm very pleased that they can't be cooked; were that the case, the fact that they can be resupplied would mean everyone would have access to air-bursting death machines, and tense hallway shootouts would turn into games of shrapnel dodgeball. My use of grenades is mainly: -Flushing people out. I can throw a grenade into an enclosed room where I know someone is hiding and train my gun on the exit, and I know they either have to run out or get a face full of metal. -Saturation. If you lay down an ammo pack, put on squad frag, and coordinate with your squad, you can keep up a stream of grenades to multiple locations that should wipe out any opposition (very effective on Grand Bazaar) -Distraction. On close-quarters maps, I'll often throw a grenade around the corner of a choke point, then rush around the corner firing (with an accurate hipfire weapon) through the smoke and debris left by the grenade. Essentially, you can turn the grenade into a smoke grenade for people who don't have smoke grenades, while ensuring you have at least some amount of distance past the corner between you and any enemies. I particularly like this tactic on Metro (though I am a 360 player and cannot fathom the almighty clusterfuck of 64 player Metro conquest).
Or I just throw them at huge stacks of AT mines to whore explosive destruction points.

CoD4 grenades. 3x Frag. Huge kill radius. Throw them 100+ yards. 3 more grenades upon spawn. Spawn instantly from death. What are guns again?

especially nasty in Search & Destroy, HC, and, most of all, HC S&D! that's why all my regular servers had a no 3 frags, no GL and no last stand/martyrdom rule in place
