Yes, so this game is at once the best Mass Effect made (possibly even one of the best Sci-Fi RPG's ever) AND the worst. I won't go into details, but lets just say that you should stop playing the single player game when you go back to reclaim Earth.
And once you stop there come over to Mass Effect 3 Co-Op! It's a blast, and is rewarding with lots of cool unlocks and classes and stuff!
OK So I'll stop shilling now and actually get to what I created this thread for... I want to play with some Bros. General Co-Op is fun, but the game excels when playing with friends (like BF3 in that regard). Anyone looking to join me on PC is welcome to post their info here and I will add them and we will go forth into the galaxy to melt faces.

Is the co-op only the horde mode stuff (which does look cool) or can the campaign actually be played in co-op? I ask because my GF and I are alllllllll about playing co-op games together, but she wants to play through stories and campaigns and not just meaningless battles and endless hordes.
She doesn't even really want to replay the L4D campaigns basically considering them done once we've played them once. I think Killing Floor is the only game we've played together that has had any real replay value for her. (We're both surprised she likes it. I guess killing specimens is just really satisfying, though we're getting bored with the maps.)
Anyway, just though I'd ask.

This picture has been getting tossed around the interbutts, pretty much a working guide as to what people are pissed off about regarding the game. I haven't played it so I have no idea what's true and what's not and so forth. WARNING PICTURE IS ULTIMATE SPOILER ARMAGEDDON ZOMG i.imgur.com/bYBur.jpg

Bronze is just easy enough for me to ignore bad randoms and rambo successfully. It would be neat to go Silver+ with people who don't die all the time and help with objectives.

Yes, silver is a blast if you're at least 10+ and have a team full of not-idiots who aren't afraid to use their consumables.
Seriously, I don't know how many times I've played in a pub game and I see people not use stuff like their medpacks, ammo refills, shield recharges, and most importantly, the Cobra Commander. You pretty much all HAVE to use everything in order to beat silver, and I have yet to beat gold but I have some ideas on how to do it with the right team.
It's basically all about the combos. Bio and Tech. They do insane damage, have crazy areas, and blast people off the map half the time. And all this just by timing your power use correctly with your teammates. Passing silver would be a breeze (relative term!) if people were on mics and actually communicated their plans. I'm going to pick up a mic this afternoon so that I can at least talk to my teammates, even if they don't talk back.
And Mannon, to answer your question; It is, as of right now (I'm absolutely positive they will add modes as DLC down the road) it is strictly "horde" mode. However, the co-op does play directly into the single player game in several ways. The level of success you have in Co-Op directly dictates the amount of "effective strength" your War Assets have in the single player, such that if you totally neglect co-op you will have an astronomically hard time getting the "best" endings. Also, the locations in which you play coop are literally some of the exact locations in which you play single player, and the premise of the co-op game is really cool; You play as a Special Forces squad put together by all the council races to fight off the reapers, and as you complete each "area" in the single player (think liberating an area in Assassin's Creed if you've played that) and as Shepard leaves the area your Squad flies in to actually hold the position. So you are literally coming as Shepard is going, and have to fight off the waves in order to allow you to hold the area or secure safe extraction for Shepard/Colonists/Etc. I initially thought it would be really dumb, like do it once and you've done it a million times dumb, but it honestly isn't. The classes and races are different enough that they provide many different options to play with and level, and between different maps and the challenges the different enemy "races" offer it's never felt the same to me.
There's also a very deep level of strategy involved in the different loadouts available, juggling the weight/power recharge issue is huge.

I pre-ordered this game but only actually opened it yesterday. haven't touched this single player lark yet but started on the multiplayer, and I beezed the demo too. I'm xbox baby though sadly ;(
Playing infiltrator atm, same as on the demo. Q for dudes with more playtime: have they done some sort of scoping-nerf? Dudes that are one-hit kills anywhere on the body, if you hipfire them or do something that could be described as a 'railgun' you often get hitmarkers with no kill. Is this just me? I remember the hipfire thing from the demo but not the railgun thing.
I guess it could be a balance thing because otherwise infiltrator is a pretty radical guy
I got the quarian infiltrator in my starter box thing, sabotage seems better than cryoblast? Don't really do much of anything besides cloak though so doesn't make a world of different. her little sidestep thing is cooler than the humans but frogleg run is weird.

I don't know if Xbox is different, but enemies in multiplayer are largely more powerful (more health at least) than their singleplayer counterparts. Just throwing that out there.
I've never OHK a normal, full health enemy with a body shot as an Infiltrator. Even with the Widow (my puny Widow I), it just doesn't happen. Although I don't ever aim for the body with a sniper rifles, so maybe my memory is fuzzy. Sabotage is just peachy versus Geth and Cerberus Turrets/Atlas. Again, maybe my memory is failing, but I don't think Quarian Infiltrator has Cryo Blast. Pretty sure she has Sabotage and Sticky Grenades. Although either way, I try not to use powers too much as an Inflitrator. Cloak is just so damn powerful, not to mention the best power in the game for support/revives/objectives. I just wish I could play my singleplayer Infiltrator, since Cloak + Power use bonus + Energy Drain and/or Incinerate + grenades is mighty tasty. Combine that with super fast cool downs, and nothing can ever kill you.

So yea, with cloak and an upgraded Mantix you can definitely OHK/body shot basic troopers, even on gold. I do it all the time. The salarian infiltrator is 10x better than all the other ones, so if you unlock that guy switch to it immediately. If you spec cloak right you can hit prox mine (still cloaked), Energy Drain and then quickly take your shot and you'll still get the cloak bonus. ED against geth is easy mode. Sabotage got nerfed very heavily, and doesn't really help much because you don't have any way to remove shields, which is critical with the way the shield mechanic works.
Buy recruit packs until all your starter weapons are at X, and then move on to veteran, etc.... If you just start with Spectre packs you will get basic weapons/upgrades in the pack in place of the true rares which sucks balls a lot.

Ah, I never go for the damage bonus in multiplayer. There have been more than a few times where I needed every second of my really long cloak to finish an objective, reach a spot on the map, blah blah. I'm sure with the damage, you could maybe even headshot kill a shielded enemy. And yeah, part of the reason why my memory is fuzzy on the Quarian is that I switched to Salarian when I unlocked it. Those mines are just so damn good. Don't even think of them as mines, and use them more like a grenade launcher. If you hit an enemy in the face with it, I'm sure that's close enough to trigger. I use ARs on him though, and by ARs I mean the Vindicator. It's just too good to pass up, and it's as light as a feather. I built my Quarian to be more of a sniper. I hate buying packs. For whatever reason, the store hates me. I've had 3 separate occasions where the transaction wouldn't finalize, it takes my credits, but I don't get the pack. And those where all with Veteran+ packs. Credits are easy to get, but it just sucks to see them go down the drain like that. Also, I got into a Silver group with some decent randoms, full extraction, leveled Infiltrator to 20. Get back to lobby, leave to level and buy packs, and boom: all the XP and Credits gone, back at level 19. I hate this game. On the plus side, I ended my second playthrough with 96% readiness.

I'm sure with the damage, you could maybe even headshot kill a shielded enemy. And yeah, part of the reason why my memory is fuzzy on the Quarian is that I switched to Salarian when I unlocked it. Those mines are just so gosh darn golly gee whiz good. Don't even think of them as mines, and use them more like a grenade launcher. If you hit an enemy in the face with it, I'm sure that's close enough to trigger. I use ARs on him though, and by ARs I mean the Vindicator. You really should swap your sniper Infiltrator to the Salarian. The Salarian is the best infiltrator race and snipers are the best infiltrator weapon, you can put 2 and 2 together. Having Energy Drain for the shield recharge on Gold is invaluable with how often you get mobbed. With your Quarian you could go with a shotgun; a shotgun infiltrator is surprisingly viable. With a Geth Plasma Shotgun you can charge it up, cloak, and fire while remaining in cloak. Or you can run the Claymore and drop a hilarious amount of burst in one shot. The ARs are, by and large, absolutely horrible, only outclassing the SMGs. The damage they do is simply too low and they get penalized extremely hard when firing on armor: armor is a flat reduction, so if you're firing on an enemy whose armor reduces damage by 50 like a Banshee with an Avenger X which only does 48 damage, you're essentially hitting that Banshee for 1 damage with every shot. Compare that to a Widow X that hits for ~1080 damage and the difference is stupidly large. The only good ARs (for use as a primary weapon, not as a placeholder for a caster class) are the Mattock (which gets outclassed fairly quickly because it's only an Uncommon) and the Saber which is an ultra rare. The Vindicator is passable but has fairly high recoil (and was nerfed for no reason, lol). The Falcon's damage was buffed this week after its big nerf last week, so it's probably ok also but unless you're the host don't bother using it. Oh and you probably still got the items from your pack. I have the same problem pretty often where I get an error and the game gives me my credits back but if I restart, I'm missing my credits but I have the items. The game just won't tell you what you got so you have to look through all your stuff (there are some unlock spreadsheets you can use to keep track of what you've got).

All very true. I just don't get as much jollies out of sniping, so I go AR. But yeah, the vast majority of ARs are pretty meh, so I just stick with the Vindicator. I never have any recoil problems with it, and headshots are pretty decent with it (nothing compared to the classes with passive powers boosting sniper headshot damage of course). I'd love the Mattock or Saber, but I've yet to unlock either. Although unless certain stats are tweaked for MP, I don't know if the Saber is worth the weight.
But anyway, I'm speaking from a Silver perspective. If I was ever playing Gold, I've have no problems using whatever works best rather than using what I like. And my only Gold experience was last night, so I can't really speak about what's truly optimal.
