So tonight I decided to jump into a few games alone in order to get some attack helicopter unlocks (on console). I'm used to servers in which four or more people are waiting for the vehicle spawn, and also to servers where someone tries to teamkill you with a jeep every once and a while. Tonight I saw just about every kind of shitty way of hoarding the chopper to oneself and one's squadmates. It was one giant, downward spiral of selfish assholishness leaving me pretty damn angry.
The last straw was with one other guy on Caspian Border. He and I were the only ones waiting, and he got the pilot seat. After not moving for ~30 seconds (with the entire enemy air aloft), he flew off and sat in a field behind our deployment for another 30 seconds. Then he gained some altitude before smashing the chopper into the ground. With 9% vehicle health left, I got out and repaired, and he flew off before I could get back in and repaired it the rest of the way himself. I'm guessing he wanted his squadmate to spawn in midair as his gunner. I left the game and shut off my xbox to stop myself from inevitably eventually throwing my controller out my window in frustration.
Tonight I was teamkilled by both a tank and a jeep, C4-ed by a teammate (you lose control and crash), shot by friendly tank shells, and hit by a friendly jet (probably not coordinated / intentional, but I was convinced it was at the time). Essentially, I had to beat my own team in order to even play against the enemy team.
I think this is an example of the need for some kind of overhaul to the vehicle spawn mechanics. I realize on PC that instant and faster-than-normal vehicle spawn servers exist, but I have heard that that has some issues as well. The first thing that I thought of was some kind of queue where people get dibs on the next chopper, jet, tank, etc. But that still doesn't fix the problem of half the team waiting for a vehicle to spawn instead of actually playing the game.
Anyone have any similar experiences and ideas for fixing this problem?
