Now don't get me wrong, I love the 360 but is there any compelling reason why one would purchase Minecraft on the 360 as opposed to on one's computer? Pretty much any computer can run it, as the system requirements are quite low. I'm no PC elitist who scoffs at console players (I play 99% of games on console, with 1% being Minecraft on PC), but MC on Xbox is such a neutered version of MC on computer. Far fewer features, and the map size is WAY smaller for starters. It goes far beyond the fact that the graphics are worse (which tends to be the case when comparing a game on PC and console, which by the way does not apply to MC as it looks nice on 360). Also you need to pay for Xbox Live to play online with friends, and I think we can all agree XBL is a huge rip-off.
So, apart from Achievement whores, is there any compelling reason to purchase Minecraft for Xbox?

I really don't think so. Except maybe the price. IIRC it's $30 on PC, and the XBox version is probably $20 tops.
And don't hate me for this, but I don't even like Minecraft.

No texture packs and or/mods.
That's a dealbreaker.

I downloaded the demo and bought it on the same night in which my buddy and I split-screened it for about 6 hours straight. After playing it for awhile and learning about it, I really wish I had bought the PC version instead. It's still fun, though.

There's pretty much no reason to get the 360 version of Minecraft if you have a PC. When it comes to the budding resource gathering and building "Mining Sandbox" subgenre, there are a lot of very promising up and comers going well past what Minecraft has achieved or going at it in a different manner. There are three in particular I've got my eye on. Castle Story which has an RTS scheme in which you order around several little dudes and a more "block for block" style rather than stockpiling hundreds of resources in your pocket. Cube World in third person with very smooth controls, movement and a greater scale ratio of blocks, focusing more on the "doing things" and customizing RPG side of gameplay rather than simply digging and building. Starbound, two dimensional side perspective. An evolution of the Terraria style digging, with exploration, platformer combat against various enemies and traveling between many types of landscapes and planets as the focus.

Have you downloaded the alpha for Starforge yet? I'm intrigued.

They've been awfully quiet about a release date. I thought they were aiming for this summer, but now I hope they even make fall.. Terraria was an awesome time sink for me and Starbound looks better in nearly every way

I remember a friend telling me about Castle Story. It looks like a lot of fun, as do those other games you just showed.

I am a PC guy for minecraft, but the splitscreen and easier multiplayer seems to be what everyone I know who has it gets out of it. My little brother even has both. I've played the splitscreen and it is pretty great fun. I like multiplayer stuff, and that stuff's always better on console.
