This might be hard for me to explain, but my theory is something like this: You've probably noticed that the longer you hold your breath, the more your scope moves when you breathe again. The effect is especially pronounced when you are using Steady Aim Pro. Anyway, when you shoot, my theory is after every shot, even if you have breath held, you breath momentarily, then if the hold breath is still on, you begin to hold your breath again, resteadying. This is why it seems like there is more recoil when holding your breath. The longer you hold it, the more the scope moves after each shot.

Again, I haven't sniped much in MW2, but unless things have changed radically from MW1, that's not it. When you hold your breath in MW1, you get more honest-to-goodness recoil. It's not sway, (which travels in every direction around a fixed point), it's recoil (which moves in a single direction away from a fixed point). This additional recoil is independent of how long you've been holding your breath. If you're a 1-shot/1-kill kind of guy, you might not notice it as much... but for a two-shot-burst M21 guy like myself, it's crystal clear.

I haven't sniped much, myself, but I have to admit it has felt to me like when you fire you stop holding your breath for a moment and incur the sucking air kick which is actually worse than the regular idle and gets progressively worse the longer you hold your breath.
Obviously I couldn't say that's what's happening or not, but it certainly feels like it to me. Also... isn't the sucking air kick you get when you stop holding your breath after a long time semi directional? I can't recall, but it always felt more vertical than the regular sway to me.
I'm not sure how we could test this, though if that's not how it worked before then it probably isn't now. It just feels like it, which is hella subjective, I know. heh

Once I realized that holding breath usually hurt me more than helped and that I could snipe just as well standing up as I could fully prone I started doing a lot better using sniper rifles.

Yeah the stance boosts to accuracy seem to be hipfire only, making it pretty much a non factor most of the time, though I still crouch or prone for cover or to be less conspicuous and a smaller target, and often crouch to mask footsteps when not rolling with Ninja.

ok, i had to do a small test with one man army just to find out...
it does seem as if when holding your breath just before taking your shot - and still keep shift pressed - he will exhale when you take the shot, then hold his breathe again. However, it take longer for the M21 EBR to stable it's sights enough to hit the same small long distance target again (I get "inhale" plus "two heart beats") than WA2K (I only need "inhale" plus one "heart beat" with this rifle).
Which could explain why I got the "feeling" downside of exhaling between shots (or the slow speed at which the rifle focus when you hold your breath) affected(sp?) me more on EBR compared to WA2K......

While we're on the subject of snipers, how feasible is getting the Extended Mags attachment for any of them? With FMJ and SP are any of them still OHKs through any sort of material? I have a compulsion to get Mastery achievements for all my main guns, and I feel like the Intervention and WA2000 have served me enough that they deserve to have a little bar that I can put next to my name. I feel like Thermal + FMJ would be the ideal setup for this kind of thing, but I'll definitely miss my Heartbeat Sensor.

Glass counts as penetration and is pretty thin making Highrise good for it. Also just in general hardcore is good for penetration kills.

Glass is the only surface thin enough to reliably and systemitically get you 1HK's. Just snipe the first one or two minutes or so on these maps and use windows that aren't broken yet.

All snipers are 1-hit kills through almost any surface... if you're playing hardcore. There's also no killcams, so it's a win-win.
