Played a good 8-10 hours in total before posting this. I'm not breaking down the maps because that would take too long, and you can find that on YouTube if you want.
Shatter
Good gametypes: Extraction (my favorite)... I'm forgetting one .
Decent gametypes: Dominion (although I haven't found it in the playlist)
Poor gametypes: Infinity Slayer, CTF
General downsides with the map:
- Initial sniper ordinance on top of "sub-bases" (smaller ones used for Extraction and those gametypes). Take that with AC and Stealth and they can sit there the entire match unless someone can sneak up to the teleporter without them freaking out. Nearly impossible to remove the sniper when someone is guarding them.
- Huge sight lines cutting through the map. All primary automatics are useless unless used indoors, especially with the use of vehicles and turrets replacing that feature.
- No one can figure out where the CTF flags are if they're new. Kinda frustrating, but I think that'll change a little.
Benefits:
- Mantis and Ghost play is a blast
- Ideal map for Pathfinder specialization
- Squatting like a duck is easy...?
Wreckage
Good gametypes: Slayer, CTF
Decent/Poor: Oddball, KOTH
(funny how they mention Regicide too. Haven't seen Regicide for Crimson on any playlist either, just like Dominion on Shatter).
Downsides:
- Objectives are sometimes placed almost entirely in the middle of the open. KOTH can become stale without long-ranged backup, same with Oddball
- Besides the rocks on one side of the map, there's little reason to be using the Jet Pack. The map is so linear and easy to navigate that points of elevation can become extremely powerful
Benefits:
- Great spawning due to cover
- Integrates both close and long ranged combat
- Flexibility for future gametype additions
Harvest
Good gametypes: CTF, KOTH
Decent/Poor: Slayer, and again, they really didn't add too many other gametypes.
Downsides:
- Warthogs are crucially powerful to the game, especially in Slayer. If you don't have a coordinated team and/or your teammates don't want to partake in the Hogness, you will probably loose.
- Outskirts and edges of the map are a dead zone and aren't usable except for vehicle chases
- Spawns become predictable from the ridged symmetry, Promethean Vision is highly effective
Benefits:
- Objectives are safe from view in most cases, making good defense a higher priority to the typical ignorant teammate
- Ambiguity between short and far distances within the structures leaves less tension between weapon choice and more to coordination
If I get some time I'll answer more questions if you bros have them. By the way, although I paid for it, check and see if you can get the map pack for free. Apparently a lot of people did
