In all honesty, people just need to get over it. I totally agree. Part of the reason this franchise has lasted so long is over this insanely durable goodwill they've built from previous titles. People haven't been satisfied for the longest time, but they cling on to this hope. It's like "where does this shit end"?
COD has simply fallen behind the innovation curve too much to really compete anymore without some kind of drastic overhaul. That's what OBM's video just revealed imo. That kind of hit detection would of worked fine ten years ago, but standards have went up since then and that's just not acceptable anymore.
You look at a game like Titanfall and overall it's just more innovative. Unfortunately, that game was panned over ironically for a game that essentially the same freakin thing as Titanfall just with clunkier controls, worse connections, worse hit detection. And why? Because they hope THAT will return the franchise to the glory days of COD 4?
This nostalgia needs to end. I mean even OBM knows this shit isn't going to change anything anytime soon probably, but he at least convinced me to stop agonizing over change that isn't coming. So if nothing else good came out of it for me personally.

Guessing matchmaking is creating most of the problems with connection, who knows I could be wrong. Given how in past games when I did play against certain people who are out of region and it caused some nasty lag issues. MW3 being the most obvious example that game used to put me into random region lobbies all the time jump into COD4 got local region lobbies.
Maybe that a bit too obvious but thinking that the reason why we have issues with AW.

The reason its lasted this long is because its casual as hell, filled a niche that hadn't really been done at least in MP (in terms of being a Modern Military Shooter vs the future and WWII of yesteryear), and got a huge hype train and YouTube cult following and was the game all your friends played. It was just literally the first in the door that didn't completely trip over itself.

Mousey... I... I Love you!
I play competitive cod on pc from a country in the middle of Asia. And as you can already guess, my ping is really high because There are no players in my region so I always need to connect to Europe. Thankfully, with dedicated servers I get a ping of ~150 even though I'm connecting over 5,000 km distance. On servers, (as you have explained) the game is playable and while I am at a disadvantage, I can do well and play a generally fair game. When it comes to P2P games such as doing private competitive games, my ping is always 200+ and with much jitter and rubber banding. It's been impossible to play at times and it really puts me at a disadvantage. I generally play it cool and just try to have fun but then there are those cocky arrogant idiots who think they know it all because they watch some tmart videos and tell me to "buy new internet", "high ping has advantage omg", "your gun shoots faster high ping omgomgomg". This is so frustrating because you have to deal with such wacky guyic people and the sad thing is, most of the people you meet agree with those wrong facts and It makes me want to punch something. I've always understood how the game (and others) work and what the general mechanics of it are and your post really really made me feel good. While your post was a lot more in depth, It basically was on par with how I had the picture in my mind. I want to thank you for restoring peace within my mind and you proved to me that there are indeed, other beings (that play video games) capable of thinking logically and intellectually.
You don't need to reply or even read what I wrote, just... Thank you.

Hi, Mousey,
Can I ask when I do the rewind on the server side, how much time do I need to go back? Let's say the ping is 200ms so when I shot an enemy, the server will receive my shot action around 100ms later. Then the server will find a previous scene but should it be 100ms earlier or 200ms earlier? The player shot happened 100ms earlier but the player actually saw a scene 200ms earlier before the server received the input from the player controlled client.
Thank you very cmuch

Wait... Could it really be something that stupid?
I was re-reading this dinosaur of a post and stumbled across this bit:
Recent CoDs have significant network delay on them compared to other shooters.
They didn't forget to disable this "feature" while connected to a dedicated server, did they...?
Edit: Nope. Ignore the above...
Current gen CoD uses dynamic buffering (lerp) based on real time connection quality.
